“Teams are really honoring the tampering rules,” said an agent who represents a player who figures to eventually draw interest from multiple teams but had heard little as of Tuesday.

“They’ve taken all the fun out of it.

Usually you have all kinds of conversations going a week before the market opens.

This year, it’s dead. But I think it’ll make for a crazy three days.” (( see last paragraph  ))

IN TEARS PAST early  communiciation and arrangements were against tampering rules, but everyone did it anyhow.

For the most part, not this year. To fight tampering, the NFL gave teams and agents a three-day window to negotiate in advance of the free-agent market opening Tuesday, March 12. Teams and agents can talk turkey Saturday, Sunday and Monday. This year, it will be OK to have verbal deals in place by the time free agency opens at 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday.
