My guess is that Alex Smith hasn't signed the contract because Condon, who represents both Smith and Manning, is waiting to hear what the 49ers have to say. Will Smith get a new agent because of these events?

Smith has no leverage. Peyton will pick his team and his agent will work out the best deal he can. If that's SF, then Condon will help Smith with his next team. Condon has a LOT of high profile clients. I see no need for Smith to get a new agent because there is no conflict of interest. There is nothing that any agent can do for him that is going to make a blessed difference if the 49ers want Manning.

As someone who employs an agent (actually several agents in an agency) - your take on things, Mac is absolutely right on. There is a hierarchy in businesses. The top producers are more highly sought after and you can't get around it. In my agency there are perhaps 20 different artists of which I'm in perhaps the to10-15%. I don't feel slighted if I didn't get a particular contract because another artist had "the look." It's just part of the job and part of my agent's job is to do the best they can for ME while representing their other clients as well. They get the job done.

Thank you Mac, it's definitely INTERESTING at times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything AND working from home most of my business life has allowed time for my favorite "addiction" ie football!

on Saturday. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reports that Smith has not yet interviewed any prospective new agents.
