Ryan Clark makes an excellent point

How often did you hear (former commissioner) Paul Tagliabue's name throughout the season?" Clark said. "I think (Goodell has) decided to make himself a major part of this game.

From an article stating Goodell is not going to punish Harrison for comments he made in a magazine article.

Tags was a great commissioner and was integral into making the NFL the most popular sporting event in the country. And like Clark stated, you rarely heard him mentioned, especially during the season.

In what other sport is the commissioner not prevalent though? You see and hear Bud Selig and David Stern all the time in the MLB and NBA respectively.

I'm not sure how saying Goodell is an active commissioner equates to making a "good point"

In our day and age anyone in a high profile position is basically stalked by the media as it is, so I don't really understand what Clark is trying to get at.

The point, I thought was quite obvious, Goodell is to involved in too many items that should be handled by the individual franchises. As Clark later states, "Goodell is the judge, juror and appeals." And even Selig and Stern are not as much a part of the game as Goodell is making himself to be.

Your last point makes very little sense and has nothing to do with the linked article.

haha high profile people are frequently in the media's eye doesn't apply to this situation? How do you figure that doesn't make sense? Now-a-days you hear quotes from D-coordinators calling out teams for crying out loud. Everyone is more visible with our 24 hour media cycle. If you don't know how that applies to this situation, we will have to just agree to disagree :)

And David Stern is judge, jury, and executioner in the NBA. So please tell me what the difference between these two are? ( Not a very big into baseball so I'm not sure the extent Selig controls that sport. Sorry baseball fans lol)

It's a commissioner they are suppose to be the one making the hard decisions and "protecting the shield" If you let the players make decisions on fines, my guess is there wouldn't be very many handed out. Same goes for suspensions.

Just to add. The players voted for Goodell to have the powers he does. They then had the option to change his authority (I.E appeals) within this new CBA, and chose not to push the issue because they didn't see it as that big of a deal.

So again I fail to see what the problem with Goodell is. But that's just my opinion and my take on the matter.

I think this was a wise choice by Roger to stay of the disciplinary action in this issue, since it was a personal attack on him.

I do not see Mike Tomlin letting it slide though.

Wouldn't be surprised if he talked about punishments with the Rooneys, and chose to let them hand out what they see fit.

Saving face a little bit maybe?

    • How to beat the Texans and every other team? With a stick!
    • Colts are blessed to have such a great owner !
    • Okay, I know this is a Mr. Obvious post, but bear with me.  What else do you have to do during the dead season, lol?   As a Buckeye, I appreciate how good CJ Stroud is.  In MHO CJ had better WRs and RBs when he was at THE OSU than he has in Houston.   So how did TTUN beat us (bad) two years in a row when he was in Columbus?  Simple, their Offense was way better than our Defense.   Bottom line - the Colts D doesn't have to be great.  Average will be good enough - IF the Colts offense is as good as we think it could be and play ball control, has extended drives, and limits the other teams possessions.  And maybe that's the plan considering Ballard not being too concerned with improving the DB rooms.   (Sure, it would be nice to have a great D.  No argument there)
    • Hey Everyone,   So, I just caught wind of Goodson's apology letter after dropping that short pass from Minshew against the Texans last season. Here's my humorous take on the situation:   "Dear Fans, Coaches, Teammates, and Supporters,   I'm writing to apologize for buttering up that short pass in the most critical moment against the Texans. Look, I know I'm the backup running back, but hey, I'm usually good for catching those short throws - emphasis on 'usually'. My bad for turning a routine play into a blooper reel moment.   To my teammates, sorry for making you wonder if I was secretly playing for the other team. Next time, I'll practice catching more than just footballs thrown by the water boy.   To the coaches, maybe let's reconsider throwing short passes to guys who have hands that are more slippery than a greased pig at the county fair. Just a suggestion.   And to the fans, thanks for turning my drop into a meme. I promise to work on my catching skills so I can make highlights, not lowlights, next season.   Sincerely, Goodson (aka the running back who should stick to running)"   Okay, maybe I exaggerated a bit, but you get the gist. Let's hope Goodson has been hitting those catching drills hard this offseason!
