Morris Claiborne Cb Lsu

Just got done watching LSU vs. Mississippi state. Didn't see Claiborn a lot but I did see the Miss. St QB look Claiborn's way and then throw somewhere else...this happened probably at least a dozen times. They did throw Claiborn's way 4 times that I saw....2 incompletions and 2 interceptions. Yeah, I'll take that.

He's 6'0" and 185 lbs. Right now most draft boards have him in the 2nd round. I could pass on Dre Kirkpatrick if we can pickup Morris at the beginning of the second round.

You should check out Stephon Gilmore. He rivals that of Dre Kirkpatrick.

Gilmore’s size, speed combination rivals that of Dre Kirkpatrick. Their games are also similar in that they both do everything pretty well. Let the battle begin for top 2012 cornerback prospect. Gilmore has put together two solid seasons minus the 2010 Auburn game. As a true freshman he tallied 56 tackles, 1 INT, 6 TFL, 8 passes broken up, and 3 sacks. In 2010, he added to that impressive stat sheet with 71 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 INT’s, and 6 TFL. He draws favorable comparisons to Charles Woodson due to his playmaking ability and ability to get after the QB from the corner.

Also check out Cliff Harris out of Oregon. Has been stated that he is the best pure cover guy but tackling is suspect.

That's funny you mentioned Gilmore...I didn't know who he was, but I have been watching South Carolina's games to watch primarily Jeffrey, Kirkpatrick and Melvin Ingram. Understandably, teams don't go after Kirkpatrick very much so Gilmore probably gets picked on more. The first game of theirs I watched I remember thinking that the "other CB" looked like he was pretty good too but I didn't know his name. I've been watching so many games I forgot about him but it makes sense now. So yeah he did look good and playing opposite Kirkpatrick might cause him to get lost in the shuffle a little bit.

I'll be sure to keep an eye on Gilmore as well as I continue watching SCAR's games (how can you not like a team who's team abbreviation is SCAR? lol)

definitely agreed...if we decided to do so (which we probably won't and I wouldn't really want us to anyway, but the possibility is there) we could probably take Kirkpatrick at the beginning of the first round, Claiborn or Gilmore at the beginning of the second round and add a great safety (if we see nothing from Caldwell or Lefeged) later on in the 3rd/4th round in Harrison Smith. I don't think we need to pay THAT much attention to our secondary but it would definitely give our secondary a completely different look. lol

Another guy I like for rounds 2 or 3 is that Casey Hayward guy from Vanderbilt, a very good zone corner, not sure how good he is in man. Regardless, even if we play man on the outside (for which we will have Powers and Thomas/Tryon), we can still play zone on the inside, a lot of teams do that.

Depending on where the Colts end up picking in the 2012 draft, I wouldn't mind picking Kirkpatrick in the 1st round. For me, right now, it's between Luck, Kirkpatrick and Matt Kalil. If the Colts don't go CB in the 1st, the likes of Claiborne or Gilmore would be the best possibilities in the 2nd - if they are even available at the top of the 2nd round. Good thing is that there's plenty of talent at the CB-position with Alfonzo Dennard and Jayron Hosley as other prospects.

Yeah that was a total brain fart on my part. I've been watching south carolina games and I think I was watching Akansas and Alabama when I was typing that post....all the red and white ran together and I got momentarily confused. lol

I've seen some mocks that have Barron going as low as the 3rd round. Not saying that will happen of course lol

Yes I did....I was angry with Mr. Barron for a few minutes until I saw Kirkpatrick was ok and back on the field only a couple of plays later. lol

I like that about him, he's not afraid to make room for himself but he won't be violent and injure himself or others in the process.

Ok I finally saw Claiborn get beat. Well he didn't get beat so much as LSU was in zone and the QB and WR exploited the hole in the zone. However, Claiborn did whiff the tackle and the WR ran in for a score.

HOWEVER, this is the first time I've seen a bad play by him in at least 2 or 3 games so...keep that in mind. The biggest trend I've seen is the QB refusing to throw to Mo's side of the field. He is a very good blanket CB. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Claiborn becomes a Colt and I would be very excited if he does.

Incidentally, LSU's WR Rueben Randle is another big bodied, 6'3" WR that may be worth a good look in the middle rounds.

I saw that too in the West Virginia game but he straightened things up more as the game went on. In the NFL, wideouts like Greg Jennings are tough to tackle. As long as Claiborne's assignment is not a wideout like him right off the bat, he should be fine.
