  1. It’s early but KC looks like the better team so far.
  2. Replay showed he was clearly short.
  3. I am basing my opinion off Mike Chappell because I think he’s proven himself to the be the most trust worthy person who has reported on this. Chappell also knows the Irsay’s really well so there is a good chance he knows more than he can say. Chappell seemed to feel the reports of the overdose are true. He did stop short of saying for a fact that is what it was. So I am willing to leave the same wiggle room because I don’t think there is the evidence to say for an absolute fact it was an overdose or not. I do think you can tell the overdose is strongly suspected by people who are around this and probably have more information than we do on a message board and that should be factored in but again, I agree with drawing the line at saying it is suspected vs stating as a fact that’s 100% what happened because we don’t know either way. Regardless rather it was an overdose or he has serious health issue it’s not good and I hope for a full recovery regardless of the cause. I think that’s more important right now that being able to say for a fact I know what caused this. That will in all likely hood come out in time.
  4. I didn’t say he had too I said it would help. Yes a few OC have gotten jobs without calling plays but the vast majority of them have called plays.
  5. My only caveat on this is I think they have already been grooming Sam for that spot but his contract is up at the end of the year too.
  6. They aren’t going to give up on him being that after one season. They aren’t drafting a QB in the first round in back to back years. It would be dumb. It means you are saying one of them is going to be a wasted draft pick because only one of them can play. You also don’t develop two QBs at once. There aren’t enough practice snaps to do that. The smarter thing, and what they will do, is add a player who can help make the team better and contribute right away. You don’t draft backups in the 1st round. You draft guys who will start. So if you take a QB in the first round you are pretty much giving up on Richardson. The Colts aren’t going to do that.
  7. They aren’t drafting a QB in the first round after taking Richardson last year. Like it or not they married themselves to Richardson last year.
  8. Exactly, most coaches want to be a head coach in this league and Jim Bob will significantly improve those chances if he’s the one calling plays.
  9. Yeah I agree with it all but like I also keep saying signing Pittman doesn’t keep them from trying to find that elite WR. They can do both.
  10. I don’t know if this is the case or not but if people on a message board are thinking of this odds are Irsay and his team, lawyers, financial advisors, etc have thought of this as well. Like Chap said today. There was a plan put in place in 2012. Odds are these things are all part of that plan.
  11. That’s fine but the city isn’t letting a pro football team get away.
  12. That can’t be I’ve been told how great Shane is at holding players accountable unlike Frank…
  13. There is a better way to deal with Kent Sterling. Ignore everyone that comes out of his mouth. The next time he reports something worthwhile will be his first time.
  14. Worth noting Jim went through that when his dad died along with a brief court fight with his step mother related to the Colts Ownership. My guess is Jim, once again learned from his past, and set things up for his daughters. I caught that too and put it in my first post because I had the same thought and this pretty much shuts that down. Jim has made plans to insure his daughters are setup to be successful owners.
  15. I agree with your last point, always have. The term number one WR definition is subjective and can change from person to person. To me when you are your teams top WR and provide one third of your teams offense you are number one. Add into that I don’t think there are 32 better WRs than him in the league he’s clearly a number one. I think what some want when they say number one WR is an elite WR like Harrison or Wayne was. Pittman isn’t that but he’s very clearly the Colts number one WR and a player they can’t afford to lose. I think Pittman looks at the tag much like you, when asked about it he said who wouldn’t getting paid what the cap amount is. Like you said Pittman is smart. He knows the Colts can’t afford to lose him. So he’s just working the situation to get the best deal he can which is smart on his part. I think he knows he’s staying in Indy one way or another.
  16. Look up Chases stats since his rookie year. The Colts have guys with more sacks than him over the last four years.
  17. Yeah I know JMV isn’t your favorite but this was a really good interview and probably the best most concrete information we’ve gotten on Jim since this all went down. To me Mike Chappell is the Colts authority. He knows and doesn’t say it unless he knows.
  18. I heard the end of interview with Mike Chappell on JMV’s show. Mike has covered the Colts since 1984 and no one in the local media knows Irsay better than him. Mike is the guy Irsay will call when he wants to talk. some of the things that came out of the interview. Mike all but said the drug relapse reports are true. Mike isn’t the kind of person to say that unless he knows. To give you an idea later in the interview JMV tried to get it out of Chappell if Freeney or Wayne made the Hall of Fame, Mike is part of the group to pick them so he knows, he wouldn’t give him any information and went out of his way to say I don’t want to lie on air but I’ve been sworn not to tell. Chappell is maybe the most honest Colts reporter there is. JMV really pressed Chappell on if from here on out Carlie Irsay is going to call the shots. Chappell didn’t say JMV was wrong and seemed to agree with him but he never came out and said it. He said Jim is very stubborn and has come back from things worse than this. He said there is a plan in place for the daughters to take over the team from Jim and has been for a while when the time comes and stressed when the time comes. He also pointed out all three daughters named Owners in 2012. He said Carlie is the one who has been tabbed to be in charge but all three daughters are owners and get along. He said right now there isn’t much for Owners to do. He said this is really Ballard’s time with his staff to evaluate the roster. He said that will change when they start handing out money. He also stressed the vast majority of the time Irsay gets out of the way and lets his football people call the shots with a few notable exceptions. He seemed to suggest Irsay being gone for a while won’t be a major impact and will impact the other things he does more.
  19. That just says Dodds really liked Stroud. You are making a bit of jump to just take that and say that means he wanted him above everyone else. That article also says Ballard was all over Levis yet he still ultimately selected Richardson.
  20. If you listen to his end of the year comments to the press even though he said he wants to test the market he also pretty much said he would sign the tag too. I think he knows how this is going to play out. The smart thing for him to do was say I don’t want to negotiate during the year and I want to test the market. That almost forces Ballard to tag him or let him hit the open market and take a chance on losing him, which the Colts can’t really afford when you look at the make up of the WR room without him. From there Pittman and Ballard can work on a long term extension with Pittman now able to say you thought I was valuable enough to tag me so the deal has to reflect that. Worst case they can’t get anything done and he plays this year on the franchise tag. That’s why I’ve said all along you can call Pittman what you want but he’s going to get paid.
  21. I think some of you way over play Ballard’s ego. Irsay has made it clear since he took over Ownership of the team that he has a brain trust of him, the GM, and head coach to make decisions. Clearly Frank and Shane had/have input. Also, Ballard is drafting players for his head coaches, it’s not like Shane wants one thing and Ballard wants something totally different. A big part of the hiring process is figuring out what vision the head coach has for the team and making sure it aligns with the GM and Owner. If it doesn’t you don’t hire the guy. Also, if Ballard and Shane weren’t getting along or had that happened with Frank there would have been leaks. Look at the reports of how Grigson and Pagano didn’t like each other. That’s a GM who let his ego get in the way. You haven’t heard one report or any of that happening with Ballard. I think some of you are projecting your view of Ballard on to people in organization.
  22. I find this funny because Fangio is the guy who got Mora fired here. As for your question I think the Colts have made it pretty clear Gus is coming back even if it’s not what most Colts fans want to hear.
  23. Some of you worry too much that Ballard isn’t tying to win. He doesn’t need someone else to tell him how to build the roster. Yes Shane will have input as all coaches do but ultimately coaches coach and GMs build the roster. Yes Ballard is doing it for Shane’s vision or he wouldn’t have hired him.
  24. These two QBs are special and playing in the zone we are witnessing greatness. Enjoy it. You don’t get this very often.
  25. They didn’t release him. He was a free agent. no one was complaining about Gay when he was drilling 50 yarder after 50 yarder to beat the Ravens, something Chase is not great at. worth remembering he was hurt with a hip injury when his struggles started, I am not a genius but I would be willing to bet the two were related as he was automatic before that. Also please tell me what super talented player he released that has gone on to do great things else where? He’s lost some due to free agency but you can’t keep everyone. That’s on Grigson he was long gone before Ballard got here.
