I haven't seen that movie, but if an ending is bad, it can ruin the whole film for me. One example is "City of Angels" . The movie was interesting, but I didn't like the ending; therefore, I considered it a bad movie.
From what you've mentioned, I probably wouldn't like "Manchester by the Sea."
