Andre Johnson wants Texans to draft receiver

27th pick in the first round of next week’s NFL Draft. If it was up to their franchise leader in receptions and yards, the team would be wise to draft another wide receiver.

It is a position of need for the team, as the Texans are short on depth outside of Andre Johnson.

The last time the team used a first-round selection on an offensive player was 2008 when they selected offensive tackle Duane Brown, with the 26th pick in the draft.

“I’d like to have another (receiver),” Johnson said to the Houston Chronicle. “I’m all for it. I’ve asked for it for awhile. The more weapons we have, the better it’ll be for the team.

“If we’re able to add another guy, it would probably be the best group of receivers we’ve had since I’ve been here,” Johnson said. “Adding another guy (to go with) Posey, Lestar (Jean) and Keshawn – that’s a lot of talent. Not only would it be good for now, but it would be good for our future.”

The Texans hit the jackpot when they took Johnson with the third overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. The Texans haven't used a first-round pick on a wideout in the nine drafts since. Johnson is coming off another standout season, but he'll be 32 in July.
