Holliday Healing, Practicing Ball Security

January 9th, 2013 - 9:47am by Sam Davis

Wide receiver Trindon Holliday used the playoff bye week to heal an injured ankle, and is using this week of practice to make sure ball security isn’t an issue on Saturday.

The return specialist missed the team’s regular-season finale and did not take part in any parts of practices that were available to the media last week. He participated in the early portion of practice on Tuesday.

Head Coach John Fox will provide the team’s first official injury report of the playoffs following Wednesday’s practice.

“I think the bye weekend meant a lot,” Holliday said. “Being out of play the final game and then coming to the bye week, being able to get in, get treatment, I think it helped me out a lot.”

Holliday, who is one of five players in the NFL with a kick return touchdown and punt return touchdown in the 2012 season, has fumbled six times in 2012. Only one of those fumbles was recovered by the opponent.

The second-year player from LSU understands how impactful a special-teams turnover can be, and isn’t going to risk costing his team on Saturday. Holliday was tops in the league with a 32.5 kick return average and a 10.8 punt return since he joined the Broncos in Week 6.

“I know how important turnovers are in this game,” Holliday said. “I’ve been working on extra ball security in practice and I’ll be ready to go.”
