  1. I am a big believer in building through the draft, just like in baseball, you win by creating a great farm system, never was a fan of free agent signings, some are good , as long as they are selectively productive, the top free agents are always way over priced.

I am also not a fan of signing problem players, just because he has talent, what happens with Davis, time will tell, I think when a player like that is signed, the stakes are higher, because of the gamble, which is why I feel he has to be a very good player, not just solid, if he plays great, nobody will say a word, if he doesn't and has issues, its looks bad, only time will answer that, thats the gamble and a gamble at a very high price, in my opinion

  2. what it is , is a gamble, giving up a high draft pick (which are very important) for a player with a history of issues, i guess i am not much of a gambler. i bought into polians ideals-100%, the way he ran the team, his approach, etc.never been big on free agents and signing other team castoffs as the way to win football games

  3. update on Davis, been reading about him, he has a ton of talent and COULD be a great CB,or....................as most fans who follow the NFL and the players know, players with a history of issues, almost always continue to have issues, there is a difference between SOME issues and a pattern............

  4. that's really what I am waiting for (when the lights go on) I want to see what they do, when it counts, that's the big test, pre season , is pre season for a reason. Mathis has shown he has made the conversion , as has Hughes, I think Freeney will rush much more than drop back, which is why he is playing where he is playing ( rush-OLB). I feel bad for collie, he has so much talent and love for the game, but I think its a given now, it's always going to be an issue and long term, is what he needs to think about, as hard as that is. I have been hearing alot about Kris adams, but if Collie doesn't come back, that would open a spot for him or Whalen and Whalen does have the Stanford connection. I expected Luck to be very good, and then great, but not great from Day #1, he looks like a guy who has played for a few years....WOW!

  5. Unitas-Manning-Luck, maybe......... someday will be ranked as the 3 best QB's ever!! pretty cool.........honorable mention-Bert Jones, who probably had more talent than all 3 of them, but played with a linebacker mentality, which led to a short-injury filled career.

  6. when Powers came out as a rookie, he played pretty good ( better than a rookie) I expected big things from him, going forward, injuries have contributed to it, but he hasn;t really lived up to that yet, although, the second half of the season, he did look like he was getting there....I thought he had Pro Bowl potential coming in, prob isn't ever going to make it, but.................

  7. sorry, wasn't much out there on Griff ( #84 WR by Kiper). Thanks for the personal input, as I said, a few years down the road, will be when the real ratings will come, some of these guys who didn't come into the league with all the hype, could be better than those that did, it will be fun watching all these guys develope

  8. This isn't a prediction on when they will be drafted, just a ranking, i'll be doing my mock draft later today..........pretty sure Griffin is going #2 lol

It is fun, I spend alot of (too much ) time on it, I keep records and compare my picks vs the real picks,etc.........and I have to add I do quite well lol I am VERY anxious to see what this "new" group does this year in the draft, I always look for the "names" and Polian would draft guys I never even heard of ( Mathis-Bethea) ( which is hard to do) then a few years down the road.......they were in the Pro bowl. There is a ton of talent out there, even at the end of the draft, it's the teams that really know what they are doing, that find them.

  9. how about this............the patriots went to the super bowl, with 1 quality Wr, no NFL caliber Rb, and a horrible defense.....so either you are over estimating the talent level of the rest of the teams in this league, or under estimating the talent level of this team, last years team, if healthy was better than the team that went to the super bowl, the problem is they werent healthy, thats the only problem, but i am sensing that you believe this is all polians fault and caldwells and now they they are gone, all the problems go with them............... although since you think this team is so lacking of talent and its the same players who played on the super bowl team, then polian and caldwell, in reality, were brilliant to get that many wins from an untalented team. do you have any idea how much better any team would be with 5-7 high draft picks, the cleveland browns would make the playoffs with that many high picks. do you know the difference between the patriots and the browns? about 4-6 players, you take the best 5 players off of the patriots and add them to the browns and ..........you now have the cleveland patriots, there isnt that much difference between the best teams and the worst teams, its a handfull of great players. the great teams have them, the bad teams dont. this is not rocket science, doesnt really matter where you are sitting.

  10. Let me see if I understand you, you think the Colts are rebuilding because Peyton got hurt? and if Peyton didn't get hurt, they would'nt be drafting Luck? Thats what you really think???

I need you to be more specific, the players are old, always hurt and not productive, who? which players would you like to see leave? I know for a fact, this team, if healthy , was just as good as either of the 2 teams in the Super Bowl.

There are more than 2 Qb's in college who can lead this team to a championship, there is no reason to give up a chance to draft that many good players and just get 1, in return, thats basic math.

You seem to have alot fo confidense in the new managemnet, then I am sure they can find another QB out there, somewhere. and he wouldnt even have to be great, because with all the picks we made, we would have a great team and wouldnt need a great Qb to bail us out. As far as tough decisions, I dont think its tough at all, trade luck, draft those 5-7 plasyers and we are instantly.......very good! Once again, basic math.

  11. Peyton's injury and money due, are convienent issues. I think the #1 reason he won't be playing for the Colts, is this team is rebuidling, that's the issue- as I have stated ,36 year old Qb's and rebuilding don't add up. We didn't have people out, we had half the starting lineup out, that's why we were 2-14, not becuase there wasn't enough talent on the roster. Every team in this league, including the 2 teams who just played in the Super bowl have holes that need to be filled. It doesn't make sense to draft 1 player ( either QB) when drafting that 1 player means forfeiting getting 5-7 very good players, by trading that pick and getting a Qb with 1 of those 5-7 picks .............vs 1 player . The logic seems to be if we don't draft one of those 2 Qb's we are doomed, when history dictates that there is most likely a QB , just as good, that won't be a high pick.

  12. My point was , even if Peyton was healthy , Irsay would have had the same plan-rebuilding. That plan has nothing to do with Peyton's health, only a misguided idea that the team needed rebuilt???????? I understand the fans know understanding what happened and it wasn't just losing 1 player, it was losing half the starting lineup- anyone thinking that losing that many players=a successfull season is ...........

I guess I thought Irsay was a little smarter than that. Nothings changed from my perspective...... a very good core and adding multiple draft picks=success, next year and beyond, but it seems like we are going to go with another plan??

  13. Irsay's decision has nothing to do with Peyton's health, it's about rebuilding a team, a few years removed from a Super Bowl.......that makes sense? This team ,in no way, shape or form , needed to be rebuilt! What needed to be done was use some football intellegence and trade the pick away and this team is set , for years, which would include drafting another QB ( capable of winning a championship). Nothing in the current scenario is making good football sense, because the goal is to be the best team you can be and this current scenario, while it will be successfull, is not the best scenario. The result of the current scenario has left no place for #18 to remain a Colt-36 year old QB's and rebuilding don't add up.........after 13 years of greatness and a future that could have very easliy been continued (greatness), the decision will leave this team, years way from any potential success and the best player in the teams history playing ...somewhere else..........that makes sense? I think not

  14. Anyone who thinks the Colts should draft Andrew Luck should take a long look at he previous winning Super Bowl Qb's and they will see that there or more who weren't #1 overalls, then there were that are. And take a long look at the Colts since Peyton was drafted-1 championship. A great team and a very good Qb, is going to beat a very good team with a great Qb, ALMOST , every time. Thats what we need, a great team, not a great QB. The way to get that (great team) is to trade away that pick, cash in on what should be the biggest value for a #1 pick in 30 years and re stock. It's time to realize that one player can't win championships, what they will win , is alot of games. We have tried that, it doesn't work, everyone seems to want change, there it is.

  15. you really need to do more blogging maureen, great blog!! i really didnt need to re-live all of that lol

it has been a very tough year, as we all know, but seeing colts football again, these past few weeks has sure taken alot of the sting out of it.

i would love to have the #1 pick, its very rare for a very good team to have an oppurtunity to re stock, but if that doesnt happen, we (still ) will be back......next year!! GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!
