The Quarterback situation is simple!

Recommended Posts

There have been mixed feelings about Brissett on this Forum, on Twitter and on Facebook. Some say Jacoby doesn't have receivers to throw to he will turn it around, others say he's not the franchise Quarterback going forward. Me personally, I am 50/50 with Jacoby at this point. So what does Ballard do?

1. Keep riding with Jacoby, hope he turns his play on the field around, and don't draft a Quarterback.

2. Draft Jordan Love and wait until he develops. (This team is a win now team!)

3. Trade two or three picks to a team to move up in the draft to get Burrow.

4. Sign a free agent Quarterback for the short team and draft Jordan Love. (This move is highly unlikely because of the weak QB free agent class)

I doubt 2 or 3 picks is going to get us up high enough to get Burrow.

Minimum we would have to give away both 2nd rounders and next year's first.  And that's if we got lucky and called up an absolutely stupid GM who was picking at say 2.

More likely it's both seconds this year, next year's first and the first the year after that.

    • I hope we keep Toppin, I didn't think we would. Paul George went to Philly for 4 years/212 Mill, so now we have them to deal with as well besides Boston, NY, and Milwaukee. I thought we were better than Philly before the George deal, not sure now.
    • Thank you for your response and thank you for enlightening myself regarding Partridge. I recall his signing but didn't know much about him until I joined this forum and read several of your posts speaking highly of him. Thank you!  I have researched him since then and have to agree with you, it is likely that his fingerprints were on this signing.    Davis' contract is such that there is no guaranteed money in his 2nd year, with a cap savings of nearly 6.5 million, so there is an out if needed. https://overthecap.com/player/raekwon-davis/8796    I have to think that his main responsibility is as Grover's back up...we all saw how much he was missed last season. Though, this is where Partridge comes in, there may be additional duties. One thing that struck me was when Partridge said (paraphrased) "that he could get Grover some more sacks.". Does that mean he plans to alter the DL scheme, and if so, could the same benefit apply to Davis? Not to mention @Douzer's thoughts of using both Davis and Grover on 3rd and short plus goal line situations...like you said, I am looking forward to watching it play out as well.
    • I'm not saying he is about to be a sack machine but you can see some of his potential as a one gap penetrator with that frame.
    • Davis came from Alabama. My point of interest as the writer highlighted is he is moving from being a 2 gapper into now only being responsible for a single gap with a lot more penetration from him versus read and react. With his length and power at 6ft 7 300 plus the expectation for him in our scheme is he will be more disruptive. A much more reliable option for us if Grover goes down in addition to whatever else maybe we can do with him.
    • Thank you. You guys are too kind, but I truly appreciate the support.    Perhaps I am being too hard on myself… But my point still stands that anyone who makes it to the NFL, whether practice squad or starter, has achieved something prestigious that only a rare few ever achieve.    Over a million high schoolers play. Of those only 7.8 percent move on to play in college.    Over 80,000 people play in college. Only 0.4 percent make it to opening day in the NFL.    Only 2,016 players make it to NFL rosters.
