First Post-Combine Colt Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

1) Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest.  Our D only works if we get great man coverage on the WRs.  With Toler's injury history, we were very lucky to get 16 games out of him last season.  We only like Butler in the slot, so Jalil Brown is the top outside back-up.  Bottom line is that Johnson will be the BPA at a position of need IMO, and the position makes a lot of sense because of the reasons already mentioned.  I'm a big Johnson fan.

2) Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson.  I didn't see this position as a big need until late in the year.  Freeman is a FA after the year, D'Qwell has been a major coverage liability and has assault allegations (dang pizza driver!), McNary is possibly being tried for rape, Andrew Jackson was cut due to off-field incident, and Muambo got little PT.  ILB is a mess, and we need a 3-down guy as a future cog.  Anthony was thought of as a two-down run-stuffer, but he showed much better athleticism than anticipated at recent workouts.

3) Henry Anderson, DL, Stanford.  Okay, many of y'all want a big NT, but I demur.  Between Kerr, Hughes, Chapman, and Jones, there is plenty of run-stopping talent.  I'd like to squeeze a little more pass rush out of the DL and replace Redding's production.  Anderson can rush the passer within the confines of th Colts' 3-4.  In passing situations, he and Langford could be on the ends, and Jones can slide to NT.

4) Adrian Amos, S, Penn St.  Last year we had a very obvious Safety need, but Grigson drafted none because he felt no one in the draft was better than what is already on the team.  This year, the team may be even weaker at the position, but, like last year, those Safeties at the top of the draft are underwhelming.  This is about the first spot that I like the Safety value.  Amos is a coverage specialist, who has great experience all around the secondary.  Good size/speed guy too.  I expect Grigs to resign Howell in the near future to lessen the dire need at Safety.

5) Bryce Callahan, CB, Rice.  I admit that I didn't know him until we interviewed him.  But I love what I've read.  Scrappy, little, confident type that excels in man coverage.  With either Jalil Brown or Sheldon Price as the #5 CB, this is still a position of need after the 1st round pick.

6) John Crockett, RB, North Dakota St.  I've had my eye on him ever since he impressed at the East-West Shrine game with his receiving ability and pass protection.  He was a little slow at the combine (4.62 forty), but he had good 10-yard splits and short-shuttle.  He's got really quick feet and he's one of those one-cut, downhill runners.  In general, a Vick Ballard-like, all-round back.  With Herron on a one-year contract and Gore at 32 years old, we need to draft one late to compete with Tipton as the #3 back, so we can have another experienced back next year.

6) Connor Halliday, QB, Washington St.  Interesting prospect.  He's got a big arm, was great at throwing the short- to medium-range stuff, and good at the long-throws.  But he didn't play in a pro-style offense and took too many ill-advised long throws into coverage.  He's also a bean pole (6'3, 196 lbs.) and his leg is currently injured.  An imperfect prospect, but a great camp arm to work with the WRs.  Could make the team as a 3rd QB if he impresses in TC or be the Harnish on the PS if he doesn't.

7) DeAndrew White, WR, Alabama.  I've liked this guy as a late rounder for some time.  Great athlete who never quite put it together as a WR (in a WR-unfriendly offense).  Just ran a 4.40 at 5'11, 193 lbs. at his Pro Day.
