  1. Random 80's music moment - Madonna wasn't the first to make "Shoo Be Doo" dancy awesomeness

It's British too. You love your British stuff, well these guys had some big Disco hits over there. Never made a splash on U.S. charts. It's a guilty pleasure of mine I guess you could say LOL

The Brits did dominate 80's dance scene with crazy stuff. They had to compete with the Italo-Disco artists, explains the bizarre flashy stuff, dance music has always been better with Euro style.

  2. If the negative reception tonight in L.A. is anything to go by, the Chargers should've stayed in San Diego...That stadium is going to be overrun with opposing team fans all the time. It's going to be worse than when it happened at Qualcom. This is only preseason and yet there are so many empty seats and a visible portion of Saints fans all over the place.

The Saints defense looked GOOD last night. I was amazed. We had 30 sacks last year and in just 2 preseason games I think we have around 15 right now.

I know it's only preseason so I am not getting too excited but they looked great against the Chargers starters, and there seems to be a better emphasis on tackling fundamentals which is all I care about. I am so tired of seeing our bad tackling over the years and last night they seemed to be making concentrated efforts at tackling.

They finally won a preseason game and it came on my birthday. lmao

I've seen statistics on the preseason games, and NO rookie rb, Alvin Kamara, seems like the real deal. I'd be surprised if the Saints don't find a place for him on their roster. He was quite impressive in the two preseason games.

Kamara is a star so far in preseason. The fans absolutely adore him, I think he makes the team. Lasco probably won't just for this reason.

He reminds em of Chris Ivory a bit but with more speed.

  3. Dan Marino 6 TD game from 1986

6 TD's isn't enough to save Miami, as the Dolphins fall in overtime as their defense was that bad to surrender 51 points.

Oh yeah, Marino gets rid of it FAST and his long passes were a thing of beauty. We have so many pocket QB's these days who are like clones of him, but I don't know any that really have the pinpoint accuracy and ball control that Marino had. You can see it in old videos, his ball control is just out of this world insane. Those are perfect spiral passes.

Manning is the only modern QB I've seen who comes close. His ball control and accuracy is the closest to Marino. I think if you are judging QB's specifically on just talent alone, Marino should always be considered in the top 3 and he should be the standard used for pass control and accuracy.

      Quote

I don't know how they lost this game. Was the run game shaky too and not able to burn up clock?

The Dolphins never had a run game when Marino was there. Going by the stat of this game, they rushed for just 50 yards.

The game kinda turned upside down in the 3rd quarter when the Jets scored on a 50 yard pass and then a 65 yard pass, back to back and went up 10 points, forcing the Dolphins to pull off a comeback.

They lost that game on their defense. The defense was HORRIBLE. That video is from 1986 and the Dolphins defense was absolutely terrible that year. They had multiple games where they gave up 50 points....

You have to see footage of Marino in 1984

That's from 1984, and that video is just insane. :woah: His accuracy on those bomb passes is out of this world.

Note - this was back when there was an automatic 15 yard penalty if the QB threw the ball out of bounds. You had to FORCE the ball even if no one was open, which explains why Marino forces that pass to Joe Rose into coverage. Interception numbers used to be drastically higher because of this rule too.

Marino's 1984 season is the year he threw for 5,000 yards and 48 TD's. I still think his 1984 season is more impressive than Brady's 2007 or Brees 2011 season. They broke his records in an era that favors the quarterback and passing game...Marino got his records in a year where you get an automatic 15 yards pushed back if you threw the ball out of bounds.

Okay I am half asleep, or more like 75% asleep but in that video he reminds me a bit of Tom Brady. I can see a lot of Marino in Brady too.

Which is why you always call them today "Marino clones". lmao

2004 Peyton is the first I believe to break the Marino TD record.

I used to feel bad for Peyton when a few years later Brady broke it again with the "Moss and Welker show".

Watching the beginning of that video makes Peyton look like Marino now to me. But Peyton was always big on Marino and always gave him so many compliments.

BTW the music in that video sounds like some club music or something. I feel like I should be drunk on red bull and vodka. BTW thats a bad combination too........you will be up all night wired and drunk at the same time.

Dude......Marino's long passes were so sexy I almost feel bad comparing him to Brady now. But Brady in his short passing game IMO played a lot like Marino looked.

Marino's spirals were PERFECT. In the original video you posted, those are among the best passes I have ever seen in my life.

Screw the Dolphins for never giving him a good enough D consistently and run game. Why did they have so many issues building a good enough balanced team around him?

Cool video, I like the music. lmao

There was a period between 2004 to about 2011 where Manning, Favre, Brady and Brees were breaking all his records.

Favre broke the all time touchdown record in 2007, and Marino gave him a standing ovation during the game, it was pretty crazy.

I actually feel bad about Brees breaking his 1984 records in 2011 cause the Saints had to really pad their stats to get that yardage record and in the end, I feel like we may have sacrificed the possibility of winning a SB by chasing those records.

I tell people this all the time, don't be angry at him for never winning a SB, be angry at the Dolphins management for failing him. They set him up to fail...They did not build a team around him.

ESPN ran this series some years ago where they had a segment on Dan Marino called "The Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame..." and the segment on Marino went into specifics about how the Dolphins drafting completely failed Marino.

At one time, they passed on taking Thurman Thomas in the 80's, then again they passed on Terrell Davis in the 90's. The video shows how awful his running game was and the defense too. Miami had this streak in the 80's where all their big first round defensive picks were major busts.

I liked that this video focused in on the Bills/Giants Super Bowl, and most Cleveland fans tend to be extremely bitter over BB's success with New England. Hard to blame them though, they had to deal with the worst owner in the league at the same time too.

Funny story too about Bernie Kosar. Kosar was never the same again after Modell fired Schottenheimer after '88 and he suffered that shoulder injury. He set the record for most passes without an interception in the 1990 season, but Kosar did not look like the same QB without his coach and that one injury did more to his arm than anything after.

I feel bad for the Browns. They had such a solid team in 1986 and Elway just snatched the AFC Title from them. That was Kosar's year. The Bills should've won the SB in the 90 Season as well. Freakin Norwood LOL.

The person in that video is better at analysis & foreshadowing than 70% of the sports pundits on both ESPN & NFL Network. Wow, that kid is loyal to his Browns to a fault. I couldn't embrace that much losing as a fan yr in yr out. You're a stronger man than me kid. I salute you.

  5. The best Saints blog I have ever read. Almost 2 years old, and yet everything in this article still rings true. The writers also predicted them to go into cap hell all the way back in 2013.

The article sums up every problem going back to 2009 and the toxicity that came under Williams' system that we still are dealing with.

I'd LOVE to see Tampa win the NFC South. Jameis Winston IMO is going to be a better QB than Cam Newton in a few years. He's a more accurate passer who don't overly rely on the #1 target.

I've seen this script before with the Saints losing a bunch of very close games that were arguably winnable. The next thing coming is the blow out. Oh yes, we're going to spanked in one of the next few games. Atlanta too. You keep losing nail biters like that, you eventually get a game where you are flat out beaten down.

This SNF game sucks but I am dreading Seattle next week. If they are shut out here, watch them turn around and take all their rage out on the Saints on the road in our dome. Saints fans saying "we got this" are like LSU fans screaming "we want Bama!"

Also, all jokes aside, that break down about 2008 is pretty accurate...We had a decent secondary that year and finished 8-8. That year is often very overlooked, but that was where our secondary got better leading into 2009.

      And this part...

      Quote

You know, this one isn’t so bad. The Saints’ defense wasn’t that terrible in 2006. It was streaky, pairing nice performances with bad ones, and that’s a performance style that makes Cam a good fit. The Saints held up pretty well until teams started targeting the aged version of Fred Thomas and Josh Bullocks, the original Payton-era disappointing free safety.

Shout out to Fred Thomas; proof that before 2006, we did have some decent defensive players.

But even funnier, Josh Bollocks...There you go, proof we've had Jason David type disappointing safeties going all the way back to 2006. lmao Every year we have one of those guys. This year it's Jarius Byrd. Last year it was Browner, before that; Patrick Robinson.

lmao I hate the Grateful Dead so much. They are the most overrated band of all time. #1, always have been, always will be.....BUT it's wrong to not say some positive things about Jerry Garcia as a guitar player and song writer. Dude was a beast on the pedal steel and credit has to be given with his disadvantage not having a middle finger. Jerry Garcia was a great guitar player, he definitely deserves praise and especially for what a monster he was with the pedal steel. But I still don't care for the Grateful Dead.

Speaking of tragic......this is one of my personal favorite classical pieces but I didn't use it too long for skating since it was TOUGH. I only used it for 4 months and it was near the end before I retired and was trying the highest level in competitions. It's advanced calculus for figure skating music and I had to move and skate so fast with footwork/spins and elements I almost passed out once when I was done.

I promised myself last year, I would not put the book down until I finish it. I've made it this far, I'll pick back up on it later.

  20. I got a STACK of albums tonight I've never listened to - First Impressions - Gary Numan Dead Son Rising. I should have bought this album when it came out in 2011, his best work since Exile (1998), very good record so far

Crazycolt: That was awesome you did that! I'm sure they really appreciated that. Unrelated issue: I would love to talk with the heads of these communication/music programs at these colleges. I go to job fairs and there are so many kids that have graduated and interested in on-air jobs in radio and these jobs are diminishing. It makes me sad for these kids. The radio business has changed so much. They need more engineering/IT/sales related jobs in radio.

  21. LeBron is set to dominate again this year

This article is great. It touches on how his game has completely changed in the last few years and evolved to a more all-around level

    Quote

It’s no surprise that many of James’s most comparable players according to our CARMELO projection system — Hall of Fame talents such as Larry Bird, Julius Erving, Dwyane Wade and Scottie Pippen — also spent the majority of their careers through age 31 in the same all-around perimeter category as MJ and King James. A few of James’s top comps were classified in other groups — Charles Barkley, Karl Malone and Kevin Garnett were “versatile bigs,” essentially the big-man version of James’s do-it-all group (think of Barkley, KG and David Robinson as the archetypes), and Pippen spent a few years in the same “low-usage all-around” cluster as other efficient, passing-and-defense players like Alvin Robertson, Manu Ginobili and a young Magic Johnson. But James’s basketball DNA to this point has mostly been grounded in the tradition of the versatile perimeter prodigy.

Article is correct about his game changing and maturing in the past few years. I've went back and watched some old Miami Heat games and some with the Cavs during the 2007 run, and LeBron has really stepped up into that role as a team leader in the past few years. I think he finally was getting to this around 2013 when the Heat repeated. His game really changed that year and Miami had their formula down, but in year 2 with the Cavs, I like the chemistry of Cleveland a lot more than I did in Miami.

His assist and rebound stats are going to be great again this year like last year, as LeBron proved in the finals that he is the leader who gets all his guys involved on the court. The newer, older LeBron is a more all-around team leader than the LeBron's of the past like we seen in Miami and his early years with the Cavs.

Hoping we can see Cleveland repeat!

I will reply to all this tomorrow but I desperately need to get into the NBA more again with news. I just read about the Lakers recently a bit and how Ingram is adjusting to the pace of the NBA and has improved recently after a very slow preseason start and how Russell is taking over big time. Some Lakers fans said just in the last few preseason games Ingram looked to "get it" more since it does take time to adjust to the NBA pace and quickness.

Curry won't have the same type of season again probably because well......they only got one basketball on the court at once for that team. lmao Too many shooters IMO.......where is the versatility?

Sorry about your tooth but if this is another one VERY sorry. OMG.......well maybe you should rinse with warm water with some salt in it too. That is what I did after I had my wisdom teeth out and it helped. Warm water and salt btw can loosen up a bad tooth if you want it to come out. It's like how warm water in the shower/bath softens up skin......

Guess we have to pull for Cleveland for the second time this year now. And luckily Cleveland has homefield advantage for the world series.

The economical high gain stuff actually records pretty well. I wouldn't use it on stage personally, as the tone is underwhelming at high volume, but yeah, it works well for what it is.

I haven't fooled with band stuff in such a long time. It's more of a hobby for me these days.

it's rare I play with high gain anymore, I broke this thing out to try and get a tone to play along to the Mercyful Fate LP's, and I was surprised how well it held up. I've practically got their 90's era tone from In The Shadows.

It's a nickname for my girlfriend's little brother. We call him Beeb cause he looks identical to him, same goofy haircut and all. He's 18, and he's not a bad kid like the real Justin Bieber, he's just too young to go to the clubs with us

Does your girlfriend's little brother like Justin as an artist? Does he realize that this comparison both musically & professionally is not intended to be a flattering one? Hopefully, he just ignores it & laughs it off as a friendly hazing & nothing more. I'm sure he's a nice guy though as you stated Bogie.
