  1. Some expensive thoughts. I liked Ted Ginn until I realized the cost. I think the "Law Firm Stevens-Howling would be intriguing.I have a feeling we will see another OL in free agency and possibly a veteran NT. Then is draft time. This was very thought provoking...I will look at your roster very soon....Gonzo....we will see. Thanks WeSpy!!

I liked Ted Ginn as well, but his price is through the roof. Stephens-Howling would have been intriguing, indeed, except for the nearly two million dollar cap price or second round pick we'd need to give up!

The OL and NT are addressed in the draft I did, and we have Moala and Nevis currently on board, as well as Antonio Johnson. At OL, we have 12 players already on the roster for the OL spot, and not a lot of cap room to sign anyone better than the current, in my opinion. I am hoping our draft selection at the center position will allow us to make some cuts, freeing up cap room, and also allow us to reshuffle the line and get the best players for each position starting.

I wish I could've brought Gonzalez back, but at this time I was following the Colts' current roster and they didn't want him. Thank you, BrentMc11!

  2. I think the Colts Keep Lefeged even with Zibby signed based on easy cap.

More upgrade needed on the OL: Olsen and Tepper were blown off of the ball and Murphy never saw the field that I know of.I think McGlynn helps back up the right side.

I do not think he is an everyday center. Konz/Blake or Shipley/Kirkpatrick.

I want some of our free agents signed.....I am sure that is coming up. Tamme> Wheeler? is Gonzo staying???

Even with Courtney Roby returning the punts and kicks?

I agree with your analysis, but all the players you listed are backups. The starting line is relatively solid, I think.

The center position is solid with a draft pick and one backup. That is the reason for getting rid of one of the centers, either Shipley or Kirkpatrick. McGlenn does solidify the side, and the reason for a center leaving because of his signing is that we would have 12 linemen on the roster. I don't believe it's necessary to have that many, so with a high draft pick center, I figured I could let a backup center go.

I would have signed Gonzalez, but the Colts didn't want him when I began this series and so I couldn't include him on the roster. Tamme and Wheeler are guys I would keep an eye on, but with a draft picks at TE and LB and Robert Mathis making the transition to LB, I decided not to make an offer to either.

The drafted TE is 6-6 and would take over for Tamme as the passing threat. Eldridge and Mahaffey are better blockers than Tamme, in my opinion, so even though he is an inexpensive option, he is unnecessary and would take up cap room better saved for contingencies elsewhere.

Appreciate your analysis, by the way, BrentMc11. That is exactly what I intended these blogs for---to get other fans' ideas. You are a smart guy and I appreciate your thoughts! I can always use TONS of help...

  3. Were the PAC-12 conference runners the starters, though? If so, it would explain their authoritative control of the running back statistics. Again, thanks for the work you put in on this! It is interesting, as you said, to know which college conferences have produced the most productive running backs. Good work on this post, and I am looking forward to the receiver blog soon!

  4. I remember this commercial. It was the year after we lost yet another heart-breaker to the Chargers in the playoffs. Bummed was not exactly the word for it that day...

Watching Peyton's commercials is like watching the video of when Dungy came in to talk to the Colts before the New Orleans game last year. It is just inspiring and comforting in a way. Call me a sentimental slob if you want to, but that's just the way it is.

On another note---If Peyton isn't back with Indy in the fall, I see a lot of Colts fans buying Madden...

  5. "If we had won the Superbowl in 2009 against the New Orleans Saints, would Manning's longevity within this organization still be in question?"

If we had won the Super Bowl in 09, Peyton Manning would have been crowned as the indisputable GOAT. I think that is what bothers most Colts fans when they think of him in another uniform. It is all so silly and trivial to place his future with this team on a nerve regeneration time-frame.

Doctors have said that once the regeneration process begins, it will never stop, and the gains made will not be lost in regression. The regeneration HAS started! Thus, we can safely say that Peyton will be healthy at some point, and to not have him in the blue and white because it might take a month longer for that healing to complete than the Front Office wants---is absurd.

Had we won the 2009 Super Bowl, Peyton would be happily collecting his well-deserved $28 million bonus, and there would be no questions whatsoever. Sad, isn't it? Oh well, I guess I'll just go cry myself to sleep...

  6. If Peyton comes back, then Jeff is needed to direct the offensive line when Peyton is calling the plays. I don't think we should keep him if Andrew Luck is under center on day one. Andrew needs to begin working with the guy that will be snapping the ball to him for years to come. GO COLTS!

I think that makes good sense, as well. I also think that if Peyton retires/leaves he won't be back---despite his statement that Peyton's status has nothing to do with his decision.

  7. As a corner, Jacob Lacey's performance as a corner has not been consistent enough to merit keeping him on our roster. I wish I knew if we had someone on our practice squad with good hands, decent speed, gliding hips, excellent vision, & was a natural at jumping routes. Even looking at our current special teams players might not be a bad idea here.Gotta let Lacey go. Not reliable enough. Lacey has made a few strides, but not fast enough to justify keeping him.

Absolutely. Wouldn't it be nice to watch film on the guys that there is no film on! Oh well, we might hit gold this year in the draft or free agency. Cornerback was the underlying problem this year, and has camouflaged the true ability of this team. Even without Peyton this was not a 2-14 team. We stopped the run well, ran the ball well, pass blocked/run blocked well, and rushed the passer well. However, it doesn't amount to a hill of beans if the other team can throw all day.

Pass Rush? No problem, my guys are open because your corners stink!

I Can't Run? No problem, I can just throw it because your corners stink!

You Can Run? No problem, we'll outscore you---I can just throw it because your corners stink!

You Can't Throw? Too bad! I can---because your corners stink!

This was manifested in the KC game this year.

If we can add solid play at the corner position and keep building on the foundations already in place, this team is ready for a major turnaround in 2012.

  8. Southwest1: It honestly wouldn't surprise me if he was released or retained, either one, and it wouldn't bother me if he left or stayed either. I loooong for the days of Hayden, Jackson, Jennings, and Powers as the 4 main guys.

Maureen: I know! I thought I knew where I stood before I started really looking at him, but in the end I just had no clue. I think both views are justified, and whatever decision the Colts make won't bother me, as long as he is not our #1 or #2 when the 2012 season kicks off. I'd like to see us hit the cornerback spot in Round 2 this year and a few other rounds as well. We need to address the secondary, add another 'Nevis', and add depth along the O line, as well.

  9. I am with all of you. Pierre should be resigned especially since we do not have any idea about Reggie Wayne. We need that one burner. My fear is that he will ask for way too much since he was the Colts leading receiver despite as WeSpy says a 52.% reception %. The drops and fumbles also are a concern. I think 5 yrs at 9.6 is fair.I wish I could be a 'fly on the wall' and listen in on Grigson/Pagano/Irsay's discussions on free agency, perceived needs, and of course number 18. In a related note, I just sneezed pestiferously!! (Is that even an adverb) Thanks WeSpy!!!!!!

Don't we all, Brent, don't we all... They should post transcripts of their conversations on the Colts webpage... :)
