  1. In Round 1:

    Colts - no pick

    Jags - Josh Allen (edge)

    Titans - Jeffrey Simmons (DT)

    Texans - Tytus Howard (OT)

May be difficult to evaluate since we didn't have a pick, but what are your thoughts on the other teams in our division on their picks?  Jags got a break having Allen fall to them, and I know a lot of folks here liked Simmons.  Texans drafted for a need to protect Watson.

In Round 2, we have 3 picks (as of right now); Jags have 1 pick; Titans have 1 pick and the Texans have 2.  Our chance to catch up!

Even a Broncos 2nd and 3rd would be very good value for our No.34, IMO. I doubt the Broncos would give up a future pick.

Did I see something crazy like the Broncos drafting a QB in 5 of the last 6 drafts?  You would think a HOF QB in John Elway could pick a QB that can actually play.

  3. After watching our video series "With the Next Pick" I'm beginning to think we spend so much time evaluating players that there's no time for smokescreens, etc.

Ballard just keeps his thoughts to himself, as well as the rest of our staff, and they are prepared to make the best pick possible in each round.

They are not going to pick a player just to keep another team from drafting said player.  that's not the recipe for success.

  4. I'm just ready for this to start!  Tired of all the threads where everyone is guessing and speculating.  I know it's fun and I've learned a lot, but this has been like getting the Christmas catalog (yes, I'm aging myself) 2 months before Christmas.  You can only circle things so many time and fold the corners of pages over so many times...the waiting is getting exhausting!

Ultimately, it's up to Santa as to what you get :)

  5. AV and Overton were at the Colts Fan Fest in 2014, but it was in Louisville near Cardinal Stadium.  I recall this specifically, because we had just adopted our son and this was his first exposure to the Colts.  He had only been with us a couple of weeks.

I recall one in New Albany, in 2012 on the riverfront, but there were different players there.  I think one was Jerraud Powers and the other was Cassius Vaughn?

  6. You make a good argument.  I have a feeling Ballard's draft will be nothing like the "experts" are predicting, or us non-experts.

Would not be surprised if he takes an OL in the first 3 picks if there is one there that he covets.

I think with the continued development of our OL, nearly any RB can be successful, so taking a RB before round 3 is unlikely.

But, again, you never know what CB will do, but I fully trust him...he's been putting in the hours with the staff to prepare.

I'm just so happy this is Draft week!!!

What do you mean?  He wasn't in charge in KC.

I'm not sure the Chiefs are going to be this powerhouse moving forward that some seem to think about KC.

Coaches have a year of tape on Mahomes now.  Considering what the Chiefs gave up for Clark, and now his salary... and then there's his past domestic issue along with what happened with Hunt last year, and now Hill and if he'll even be available after his recent domestic issue (on top of his past domestic issue)...  I could see the Chiefs taking a step back and the Colts taking a step forward, basically switching places from last year.  :dunno:

I know he wasn't in charge, but I'm sure he would have had some input.  My comment was meant to be tongue in cheek in regards to Ballard.

I agree with your thoughts...seems things there are really shaky and your point about having film on Mahomes is going to allow teams to prepare better for him.

  8. This latest episode was outstanding!  I knew there was a lot of work to prep for the draft, but had no idea how many people are involved and how extensive the process is to prepare.

Will make watching the draft even more enjoyable.  I don't think I'll ever have a reaction of "why did they draft that guy?" as long as Ballard is at the helm.

This will be the final round of the 2019 Gavin series of Mock Drafts. Thanks to each of you for keeping this tradition alive despite Gavin not being with us any longer. And a HUGE special thanks to @chad72 and @NFLfan for helping me keep things on track and under control.

I've enjoyed watching both drafts!  Learned a lot about the players, so when the real draft happens, I'll be better informed.

I may take a shot at playing GM on this next year.

  10. Great interview and I can't wait to see Cain in action when he's fully recovered and ready to play.  Our draft class was great, but if he were healthy, I imagine it would have been even better.

I know that nothing is certain, but with his attitude and work ethic, he'll be successful.  The fact that he was heavily involved in meetings, watching practice, etc. shows his dedication and desire to be the best he can be.

  11. Thanks to the OP for this.  I would think we would all be aware that our GM, Coaches and Scouts have tons more experience and resources available when evaluating free agents and draft pick possibilities.  I realize everyone has an opinion on a free agent signing, but it seems too many here jumped to a conclusion without having more information.  Just because a guy isn't a star or all pro, doesn't mean he's not good, or doesn't have the potential to become a star or all pro player.

Funchess was nearly dismissed as a terrible signing within 24 hours by many on here and the man hasn't even participated in one practice, much less a game with the Colts.

We need to be patient and see results when they play on OUR team and in OUR system before passing judgment.
