  1. I'm a regular listener to 105.9 The Fan on my drive to and from work.  Listen to Jeff and Big Joe in the morning, then JMV on the drive home.  There's been talk about what the Colts should be doing these last 3 games since the playoffs are basically not in the cards.

Some think it's time to see what Chad Kelly can do.  I know other teams would look at young players who haven't played much during the season, but our young players are pretty much starting most of the time, or getting considerable playing time.  We do have a few that could see more action, though.

So, do we use the next 3 games to evaluate players by giving them more playing time?  OR, do you believe we should stick to playing our regulars (the ones who are not injured)?

I think we play our regulars to see if we can fix some of the problems we've had the past few weeks.  To me, if you sit regulars, then we start next season with the same problems.  Maybe some things can get fixed before the end of the year?

  2. I'll put it this way...if it weren't for Ballard's drafts and FA signings, we'd be 2-11, most likely.

Lots of reasons we're 6-7, but primarily, it's because Ballard drafted and built this roster with Andrew Luck as the QB.  Luck with healthy WRs (Hilton, Funchess, Campbell, Pascal, etc.) and our TEs, plus the running game and we'd be 11-2, most likely.  The missed kicks by AV wouldn't have cost us close games, because we would have had bigger leads.

Losing Luck, the numerous serious injures and JB not having weapons at the skill positions has contributed to the 6-7 record.

Now, I am disappointed in our defense...yes, there have been injuries, but nothing close to what we've had on the offensive side of the ball.  I expected our defense to be much better this year.

Then, there's the kicking game, but we all know the problem with that without going into detail.

Get some proven veteran offensive skill players for JB to work with next season, and add that to the running game and we win more games and put more points on the board.

I do feel that a QB will be drafted and prepared to take over in 2021.  Hopefully we sign some veterans on both sides to help these young guys.  The foundation is there, now it's time to build with quality, proven players.

Also disappointed in our OL play and I have no thoughts on way they have regressed.

  3. Interesting...Doyle from Western Kentucky and Lengel from Eastern Kentucky.  Before some moves to different conferences, these two schools were in the Ohio Valley Conference and bitter rivals.  The WKU-EKU game was the biggest of the season for both schools.  Since they moved on to different conferences, I'm sure that rivalry has cooled quite a bit.

But, these two will no doubt will have some interesting conversations.

  4. Mixed emotions on this, but they at least need to see who's available.  I know some of the misses haven't all been AV's fault, but he has missed kicks that an NFL level kicker should miss.

He may be the GOAT, but he's not the greatest of right now.  We have 3 big divisional games coming up and can't afford to lose any of them due to missed extra points and makeable FG's

  5. I think we've pretty much covered that big win over Houston on Sunday, so let's look at our next opponent.

Denver actually scares me a bit...not saying it's a trap game, but after two big wins against two very good teams, it's possible for a let down against a weak Broncos team.

Their offense isn't very good, but they do have some weapons in the backfield.  I think if we get pressure on Flacco, then he's going to be ineffective.  If they decide to run the ball, then we need to be ready to stuff the running game.

Defensively, they aren't terrible...they have some very good DBs, so we may be running the running the ball more this week.

Reich has done a very good job designing an offensive game plan to exploit the opponent's weaknesses, so I expect the same this Sunday.

    Thoughts?

  6. As to the references to "elite QB's" earlier in this thread...all I'll say is we just beat two teams with elite QB's with our "good" QB.

I think JB is playing great football.  Doesn't make mistakes, doesn't force passes in the red zone that are potential interceptions...he's been cool under pressure in the pocket and is making great decisions.  He's a true leader on the field and on the sideline.

I like the Colts all white unis, actually like them a lot, the blue ones though... feel kind of forced, for lack of a better word?

I'm fine with the all whites and should have clarified that.  It's the all one dark color unis that are an eyesore for me.

I bought the NFL package.  Some of thr best money I spend.

I got a free year when I switched to Direct TV last year, but then canceled, because the Louisville, KY market always got Colts games, so I couldn't justify buying it.  However, this season, two games have not been shown here, I assume because they were not sellouts.  I almost ordered it this week, but glad I checked this first.  The price has come down, so if I have to, I'll buy it.

  9. I haven't seen this twist on here yet:

QB (Lamar Jackson - duel threat to eliminate need for top RB)

    LT (protect the QB)

C (strength and line calls up the middle)

    WR (keeps defenses honest)

DE (pass rush and set the edge)

    MLB (defensive QB)

    DT (run stuffer)

Basically, strong up the middle on offense and defense.

  10. I think Ballard has done an excellent job in addressing the multiple position needs we had when he took over as GM.  There haven't been enough picks to fix everything yet, but he's sure done well in fixing some of them.  He's acquired additional picks along the way and used some of those to get players that are contributing and developing.

If you look at the overall body of work, he's hit much more than he's missed, and I would think he's done better than most GMs in the NFL.  There will always be misses in the draft, no matter what sport it is.

Some college players just can't adjust to the NFL level, but you don't know that until you draft them and they play on an NFL roster against NFL players.

I like where we're going and I'm sure the D-Line issues will be addressed.  That didn't seem to be a huge area of need coming into the season, but after 5 games and a poor performance for the most part, then I would think the need there is greater now.

  11. I'll post my prediction Monday morning :)

Seriously, if we can run the ball and control TOP, I see us hanging in there, but Arrowhead is so hard to play in, especially on a national TV game.

    I say Chiefs 34 - Colts 24

They do not appear to be replaying it, no.

That bites...I live near Louisville, KY and we get the colts games 90% of the time.  This past Sunday, we were given Ravens v. Chiefs, which I assume is because the Colts game wasn't a sellout?  I live 2 hours from Indy, so having the game on my TV is not keeping me from going to the game...it's the distance and cost of going.  I looked last night to see about setting my DVR for the Raiders v. Colts game, and it's only listed for NFL Network as part of the NFL Ticket.

I may have to cough up money to watch them the rest of the season, but it's still cheaper than a ticket, etc.
