  1. Hey everyone!  It's February and Spring Training is just around the corner.  Still several free agents out there without a team, so the next few weeks will be interesting to see where some of them land.

Cardinals have revamped their pitching staff, albeit with some senior citizen starters.  Will be interesting to see how they hold up.  I liked the Sonny Gray addition and Gibson and Lynn are innings eaters.

Not much change on the offense, but if guys perform like they are capable, then we should be fine offensively.

The Dodgers make me SICK!!!  They are clearly baseball's new evil empire.  The "cap" and luxury tax are jokes.  BUT, the Dodgers have proven over and over that you can't buy a World Series Championship.  They are dominant in the regular season, but always choke in the playoffs.

My early prediction is a Braves v. Orioles World Series.  Braves just keep bolstering their roster and the O's are on the upswing and their young players are only getting better and they have more on the way.  That deal for Burnes was fantastic for them.  I love it!!

Apologies to Yankees and Red Sox fans, but it's so nice to see teams like the Orioles, Rays and Jays making noise in that tough AL East.

It's great to have baseball back soon!!

  2. Just popping in to get caught up.  Playoff race is exciting for those who have teams in the running.

Obviously, championships cannot be bought...ask the Mets, Yankees, Padres, etc.  There have been a few exceptions over the years, but generally it's tough to spend big bucks on star players and not have the supporting cast that's needed, because you can't afford to surround the big bucks stars with decent players.

Good luck to you Cubs fans, your team is making this season exciting.

P.S. - Cardinals officially suck.  They will have to totally rebuild their starting pitching staff for 2024.  Offensively, they have several good young prospects and veterans.  But, they will probably have to spend big on SP or trade young talent for pitching.

  3. Hi all, just checking in.  I knew all the Cubs fans would be active on this thread, and good for you!  As a Cardinals fan, my season is over, of course and this will be an interesting off season in St. Louis.

I'm still following baseball and excited about the Orioles success after several down years.  Rays are still tough, although they have a lot of pitchers injured.  Rangers trying to buy a pennant and it's working so far.

Bottom line, I just want someone to knock the Astros and Dodgers out!!!

  4. Cardinals' bats are waking up and we're on a roll.  Starting pitching still struggling but hanging in there with better offensive production helping.  OF injuries are a concern and wonder when Walker gets called back up.  The new balanced schedule means we don't play Milwaukee again until September, so those crucial division games mean even more now.

  5. Hey all, been pretty busy since the season started.  Cardinals off to a slow start and the pitching has been suspect.

Haven't been able to watch much since You Tube TV no longer carries MLB Network, which really pisses me off!!  They announced it several weeks ago and I was hoping things could get worked out before the season started.  Then, about a month after they announce no more MLB Network, they send an email telling me they are raising the monthly rate!!

I've been shopping for a new streaming service that has MLB Network...any thoughts, recommendations or input?  We have so much stuff in our You Tube TV library we haven't watched yet, but I'm assuming we can re-record those shows with a new service.

  6. Ah yes!!!  Baseball is back!!!  I agree with @Myles that the Cardinals will be interesting to watch again this season...a new catcher for the first time in nearly 2 decades, but with a better bat.

Pujols will be missed in the locker room and at the plate...what an incredible finish to his career in 2022, huh?  I don't like the DH either, but it worked for him to reach the 700 HR level.

Look for Gorman to improve, Carlson to bounce back, as well as O'Neill if he can stay healthy.  Also excited to see Walker come up at some point and contribute.

We have 4 starters whose contracts expire at the end of the 2023 season, so it will be an audition of sorts to see who is worth extending beyond 2023.

    GO CARDINALS!!!

Don't look now but the Pacers are 4th in the East at 10-6. Mathurin and Haliburton are killing it. I haven't watched much at all this year but caught some of tonight's game. Turner is having a career year as well. Pacers might have something good again.

I like this young team!!  I really believe we're developing the core and foundation for the future.  These guys are hungry and very unselfish.  I believe we have 6 games so far this season where we had 6 players in double figures in scoring.  I have tickets to see them host the Hawks on December 27th and really looking forward to it!

Been a fan since their inception in 1967 and this club has me excited for the first time in several years.

  8. Whoever our QB is in 2020, we should be better with the FA signings and draft picks we make this time around.  Building on a 7-9 team that had a rash of injuries to the WR position and a defense that played poorly, as well as those kicking issues we had last season.

Shore up the defense with the draft and FA.

    New kicker.

Healthy WR corps all adds up to improved record, IMO

Ballard said the injury should not be part of an excuse for his performance down the stretch. Ballard like the rest of us see Brisett's limitations and he's not Jimmy G to get away with it.

I heard that and understand what he's saying, but there are also reasons why things ended poorly for us last season and I believe the injuries were reasons for that.  I know all teams have injuries to deal with.  But, it's unlrealistic to think that injuries to key players don't result in poor results.  Not excuses, but they are reasons and factors.  He went on to say in another interview that he takes the blame for lack of depth to make up for injuries.

Yes, JB has limitations, but they are amplified if he's injured and trying to come back too early.

  10. JB has gotten a lot of negative comments on this Forum, but I do know that he was playing pretty well and we were 5-2, then he got injured.  Was supposed to miss 4 games, but was brought back after missing two games.  So, he was playing when he wasn't fully recovered, then we had a rash of injuries at the WR position.  A lot of things were working against him the last half of the season, so the results aren't surprising to me.

Ballard, Reich and the staff know JB a whole lot more than any of us.  If they feel like he can be our QB this season, then I'm not one to question that.  I'm sure they are exploring and will explore all options, but if JB is back with Kelly as the back-up, and a rookie QB holding a clipboard for a season, then that's because it was our best option according to those who make the decisions, and get paid to make the decisions.

If it's a free agent QB, with JB or Kelly backing up, then that is our best option going into the season.  Or, maybe a FA QB, Kelly and a rookie QB...there are several options.

I'll wait and see what they decide, but will always support the Colts and trust our leadership throughout the organization.

the team needs to know by the time free agency starts, if he pulls a luck and retires at the last minute that will screw us over

cant  just go into the season starting a backup caliber player at one of the most important positions on the team again sigh

I doubt AC waits until the end of camp to retire.  He saw what happened with the late retirement of AL and how it affected the team.  He'll make up his mind in due time, but I expect it to happen before the draft.

  12. This is becoming the "6 Degrees of Frank Reich" (see Kevin Bacon) because any player who has ever played for, been coach by Reich or any of our current assistants is automatically linked to the Colts.

As others have said, we have th emost cap space, so all free agents will be linked or rumored to us for the next few weeks.
