  1. Not being from Indy was just thinking has there been any talk of a statue honoring Peyton? thanks

I believe it was mentioned once he was retired there would be one in front of Lucas. He has to have one.

  2. Yea , I was talking about Harvin. I've read both of these accountings for what Harvin is supossedly looking for. One was as you say , the other was as I posted. The funny thing is they both came from sources Roto News quoted on consecutive days. So I guess if we want to believe the "reports" it's upwards of 10 mill and as high as 15 mill a year. Who knows.....

I read the report on NFL.com and just laughed. Megatron/Fitzgerald money? haha.. He will be MUCH closer to 10MIL, if he's lucky, than 15MIL and I'd make a a heavy wager on that. No doubt the kid has talent, but not THAT kind of talent.

  3. Also believe Brazil is more talented than some think

I've been saying this since we drafted him. Yes, he's still a little unpolished but I think he's got a higher ceiling than TY. I look for Brazill to be our Victor Cruz here soon, even though Cruz went undrafted, but I think a lot of people are sleeping on him again much like Cruz. I still say Brazill is the darkhorse of the group and is going to really shine in the next year or two.

  4. I don't think WR will be a priority in free agency or the draft. I was just saying that if we did add one of any significance , I woud hope for a big , physical guy. Bowe would be a free agent that fits that mode. Your righ (IMO) on liking Harvin better than Jennings , but I don't think the 7-9 mill price tag is right on him. The word is that he's looking for the 10-12 range.

If you are talking about Harvin in your last sentence you better go higher than that. He was quoted as saying that he wants Megatron/Fitzgerald money. He's got a better shot at becoming president before he ever gets a deal similar to those two.

  5. Angerer will fill in the ILB. No way he is going anywhere.

Maybe in passing situations but on early downs it will be Connor. Angerer lost his spot to Freeman, and it will more than likely stay that way into this season, and he's not big enough to hold up in run support in this defense. Hell, was barely average playing the MIKE in our old Tampa-2 system. He's not much different than Freeney in that sure he CAN play in this system but he's hardly effective.

  6. How many of the 32 GM`s would take TWO Vontaes as their starting CB`s? Over half?

I would kill to have another Vontae. I think the guy, with a solid offseason, will become a top-5 corner this year. He's hands down one of the best run defending corners in the league and I believe he's only gonna get better against the pass.

  7. Thanks, it's nice just to read anything at this time of the year.

I don't expect any in depth analysis, but it sort of bugs me when people just cite stats to define a team. Yes, our defense was ranked in the bottom five or six. But it improved steadily as the season went on. Sure, the Chiefs ran all over us, but how many TDs did they score?

And how many defenses gave up one TD a game in the last quarter of the season? It's not who you were, it's who you are. By the end of the season that defense was in the top half of the league, maybe higher IMHO.

In the 11 wins the Colts had, the defense gave up an avg. of 18.5pts/g. It was when the offense sputtered when the defense faltered as well. I was really impressed with Pagano/Manusky in how they prepared and dealt with the injuries. We didn't play very many powerhouse offenses but outside of the Jets game they didn't make any of those offenses look better than they were.

A couple good moves on defense this offseason and they are easily a top-15 defense if not better.

  8. Wait a minute, This: "figure out the answer to this math problem: 48 as in Super Bowl 48 -9(Get that 1 yard) =?? (Hint) 242.9 miles on interstate 70~~~~~~>#EAST".......meant Steven Jackson??? Steven Jackson played in St. Louis, Right??? Since when is St. Louis to the east of Indianapolis?. Seems like Mathis should focus more on learning geography than wasting his time trying to build the team. :)

He's saying #39 should come east on 70..

  9. I wouldn't say there is that much difference in talent between Williams and Smith. Plus Williams just turned 28 less than 2 months ago and Smith will be 26 in July so their age difference isn't 4 yrs. Even the article I posted said smith would be lucky to get that type of money so I don't think 8 million would be a bargain. If we spent 8 mil on Smith and 8 mil on Kruger then we spent 16 mil and haven't even began to address our biggest need(O-line) to protect our franchise QB. Yeah we have a bunch of money, but if we start throwing out that kind of money for guys it won't last long. I would like to have the guy, but I think he'll be lucky to get that kind of money from anybody.

I misread Williams' age then I thought he was 29. I also won't put much merit into what was said about Smith this year based off that article. Miami changed defensive schemes and went away from a heavy man coverage scheme to more of a zone scheme. That's one of the main reasons why the Dolphins are letting Smith go to FA and much of the reason why the Dolphins were willing to trade Vontae. Neither really fit the scheme Miami is wanting to run. Its similar to what happened to Asmougha in that he was a stud as a man corner but completely lost playing zone coverages.

As a press corner, you're right, Williams isn't close to the talent that Smith is and Smith is only going to get better, especially if he gets time with Pagano like Williams did.

The whole O-line doesn't need to be replaced. 46mil can go a LONG ways if contracts are structured right. There is a good chance that either DJ Fluker or Lane Johnson fall to the Colts in the first round. Add in a decent mid-high level guard in FA and the Colts are golden.

I'd much rather see our defense give up ~16-18pts/g and win than see our offense having to put up 30pts/g in order to win. We seen where that got us with the last regime. I want better and less stress put on both the offense and defense.

  10. I think the guy is a good CB, but I do not believe he's worth close to 8 million a year. 5-6 million would be OK.

8mil is a bargain for him. Cary Williams wants 8mil a year and to me he's no where near the talent of Smith plus he's ~4 years older. We need a GOOD corner opposite Vontae, not an average or Vaughn type DB who QB's are going to look at and pick on. We'd actually have a corner who could match up with Andre Johnson and other big receivers. 6'3 210 DB's, who are actually good, are very few and far between.

Superman did a contract for Kruger at 8mil/yr that was very cap friendly. One similar could be easily done for Smith as well.

  11. I think we need to forget Smith. He's seeking 8-10 million per season and he isn't worth that at all. Not even close IMO.

I have to disagree. His size and coverage skills are very good. He just needs to be put back into system he's familiar with and that's as a press corner. He and Vontae are both worth that a year. Give him time with Pagano and he will prove that much like Vontae did towards the end of the year.

  12. I see Fleener more as a big WR than a TE. I don't think he'll ever be much of a blocker and I'm fine with that. Fleener can line up in the slot or out wide and for his size is almost as fast as many WR's in the league.

I really wish they would just line him up in the slot like they used to do Dallas. Fleener is to much of a mismatch there in my opinion.

  13. Fleener will be good eventually, Allen already had a good, nay, great year. According to PFF Allen rated out as the 2nd best TE overall (+19.1), only behind Gronk (+21.2).

Agreed on Fleener. Lets not forget the first week of the season when Fleener had, I believe, 8 catches for 81 yards against the Bears. I look for a BIG year out of him next year.

Allen was a pure beast. That stat as #2 to Gronk is awesome. Allen is going to be a Colt for a very long time and to think he's only going to get better.

  14. Not a 1st round talent, but when Freeney leaves and we get an extra 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick for him, I think he would be a good option in the 3rd or 4th.

Aggressive, well spoken, and given at how well he took to NFL coaching and schooling at the senior bowl, you may be able to do something with him.

I think Freeney has to many years in for us to get comp picks off him. On top of that, if we do get a comp pick for him, we won't get that pick until 14'.

  15. Can't cover. He's a hard hitter though. He'd be a solid SS in the box but we don't have the cornerbacks to justify putting them on an island.

Hard hitter is the key here. We don't really play in a pass heavy conference. He's much better suited for the run which the Colts do have to play heavily against. Yes, his pass coverage skills are limited but he's only got to lay a couple hard hits on receivers coming across the middle before those receivers are alligator-arming the football anticipating him laying them out.

I REALLY hope we can land Sean Smith as him and Vontae, with Bethea in centerfield, could handle pretty much anything on the back-end. This would allow a guy like Landry to shadow TE's while also allowing Pagano to get super creative with his blitz packages.

Rex was able to be super successful doing this with Revis/Cromartie and his OLB's weren't really anything special yet they could get to the QB without much problem.

People keep referring to having a better pass rush to help the DB's, as I think having great DB's who can play press coverage opens the defense up even more in allowing more variation to blitz packages while still taking pressure off the DB's.

  16. He is a tall physical corner which is rare in this league. If you look at his previous years he played well, and he also played for mike nolan as you all know was a defensive coach at baltimore. He ran a variation of our 3-4 hybrid defense which suited sean. Yes sean did have a down year this year but i believe it was because mike nolan was let go as defensive coordinator and there new defensive coordinator changed there defensive scheme to a sole 4-3. Sean would know our defense and you would pair him with Vontae whos also over 6 ft. Not alot of teams have 2 starting corners who are over 6 ft tall. He would be a great addition, if we cant get him look for Carry Williams played for Pagano and he is also over 6 ft tall.

If they are looking at Williams, whose looking for 8-9mil/yr, I'd much rather push harder for Smith. Younger, bigger, and has better skills in my opinion.

I'm just not that impressed with Williams.

  17. Dude is like 6'3 and 217! With the skills to match! Would love him. From what I was reading it looks like Miami will be trying to keep him. Hopefully they go all vontae on him ;)

In the past few weeks Miami was quoted as saying they are letting him, Jake Long, and Reggie Bush go to FA. He doesn't really fit their 4-3 zone scheme like Vontae didn't. Sean is a pure man-cover guy and would be great to have here.

  18. Your last sentence answers the issue.    We might want to structure the deal that way,  that doesn't mean the players is going to accept that.    It's not very beneficial to the player.    Why should he do that?

One last thought....   The Peytonator's deal was for 7-years, $40 Mill.    The problem with that is that Kruger also wants his 40 Mill within a 5-year structure.    He wants $8 Mill a year.     $40 for 7, is less than $6 Mill per year....    I think that's a deal breaker.

    Just my opinion....

He gets all of his guaranteed money up front for the most part. MANY players take their deals like that. I do agree 7 years is a little long but if structured right, its really no different than a 4 or 5 year contract. It doesn't strap the team any differently. Its all dependent on how you structure the deal. Sure, it can be back-loaded, but why do it when you have the money now? I'd much rather front-load it that way in 3 years if production slips or a serious injury occurs he walks with his guaranteed money and I end up saving on the back end because he didn't make it through the life of his contract. Now, again, there are those cases like Mathis in which a player ends up playing out the full contract, but Mathis' production stayed consistent and the Colts ended up getting a cheap 2 years out of him, because like I stated above he got a large portion of his money up front. Reggie's deal was also similar to Mathis' (I'm referring to their 2nd contracts not the ones they just did) and I commend both of them for not holding out because they knew their last couple of years they wouldn't be making much more than just their base salaries. Just 2.5mil for Mathis in his final 2 years which is CHEAP for 20.5 sacks and 4 FF.
