  1. You are totally underestimating the importance of the QB position.

Kolb? you gonna hang your hat on that dude? Really?

Did you not read my post thoroughly? Nassib could easily be available for them in the 2nd and is a guy who would be a good fit for Arians style of offense.

  2. Exactly, why leave a franchise QB in INDY for a bargain basement replacement in the desert? Other their WR Fitzgerald...What weapons have you got? I really hate this move. Again Bruce deserves an HC gig, but not here. Win Big at INDY & your coaching stock shatters the NFL season in a couple of seasons. A public disastrous relations career move. Yes, I know Andy Reid took over the Eagles in 1999 & got them to the SB in 2004, but that rarely happens. To go from rags to franchise riches...A monumental mistake IMO.

He's taking over a team with a VERY talented defense. Yes, he has Fitz but he's also got another very talented guy in Floyd. 2 BIG receivers who can stretch the field along with Andre Roberts. That team is really 2 OT's and a QB away from being a very good team. They can address all 3 of those fairly easily with the draft and FA. It would not surprise me to see them go OT with that first pick and Ryan Nassib(big, mobile, strong arm - Big Ben'ish) in the 2nd or 3rd if he drops that far.

That team is closer than you think.

  3. I don't see Arians going to Arizona or Jacksonville. Neither team has much of an immediate future and neither has even a decent QB. I think that would be a prerequisite with Arians. He likes to work with promising young QB's and neither team has one, nor do I see very good young QB's in this yrs. draft. IMO, I think Arians stays here rather than go to either of those 2 bad teams.

Arizona isn't that bad. They have a decent defense and have very talented wide receivers. They have a high draft pick which they can either build the O-line and trade for a QB (Flynn/Smith) or go QB (Smith or Glennon whom both have strong arms) with that first pick and add OL through the draft and FA.

The Cards aren't that far off and its not a HC job I think he's desperate for. I think it would be a good job for him if they can add those few pieces I think they are good.

  4. I really think AZ just wants him to develope whatever young QB they bring in and then probably look to move on. No offense to Arians but he's the same 60 year old guy that Pitt pushed to the curb. Now all of a sudden he's great head coaching material ? Maybe ... maybe not. Also had manning and Luck to work with as you bring up... Anyway.. we move on

I'm completely against Arians being an OC, but I think he would be a great HC. He gets players to buy in and they give him everything they've got. That was clear as day in how they responded to him after Pagano went down. I think it was a little overwhelming at first, because as we seen, he made some "management" mistakes early on but got better as the season progressed.

I'm one of his biggest critics, but I believe if he gives the offense over to an OC, which I doubt, and just performs his duties as a HC I think that team will be fine.

  5. Im surpised Brandon Alberts name isn't being brought up here. Reports are that the Chiefs could potentially let him walk for younger/cheaper Luke Joekel(sp) which could be drafted #1 by the Chiefs. Albert is also now coming out of his rookie contract so he probably won't be cheap but is highly praised. I wouldn't mind giving him a look either.

  6. Honest question, he still holds a number of franchise records and was a huge part of the team for a lot of years.

Could be time to honour that by adding 32 to the retired list.

Edge was by far one of my favorite Colts players but he only played here for 7 years. Marvin and Reggie who had/have 10+ years here I think should, as well as Peyton when he retires, but I don't believe Edge's should be.

  7. The guy is good but you want to talk about why did this guy get cut, ask the texans why the cut some kid who ran a punt and a KO back for touchdowns in the playoffs? That was a head scratched cause he did it in the regular season too.

Maybe they thought Jacoby was going to stick around longer? Trindon was a heckuva pick up for the Broncos. Its bad enough having to play against Peyton, its even worse playing Peyton when he has good field position. Yikes..

  8. Looking at the new breed QB coming in and running the read offense, is having a 3-4 with bigger guys going to be the right move? Would having the Tampa two with faster smaller guys be better to defend this new style? it is going to be an interesting offseason for defensive coordinators around the league figuring out schemes to combat this new style of QB. Peyton Manning as great as a pocket passer as he is/was, DC knew where he was going to be, just had to get to him. DC do not know where this new QB will be at any given snap. Creativity of the defense will have to come about in the NFL to fight these superb running QB's now. Can we adjust our scheme and lead in the scheming for these kids?

I'd say no because the Giants have one of the quicker 4-man fronts with their NASCAR package and they struggled with RG3 in both games. It really comes down to gap discipline and containing the outside. They are just waiting for that outside guy (OLB/DE) to come down and then take off from there.

  9. Let me see.... Here's a guy who took a overhauled offense with rookies at the skill set including qb, had one of the worst o-lines in football and had finished 2-14 last year with Clyde as the oc while being ranked almost dead last in every offensive category. Under Bruce, Luck broke the rookie record for passing yds, the most wins (11) for a number one overall pick, most comeback wins (7) by a rookie and lead the team to the playoffs. Let's not forget Arians went 9-3 filling in for Chuck and won a SB as the oc for the Steelers while being denied another by Aaron Rogers. A lot of sports media say the absence of Bruce as the oc in the steel city is why big Ben regressed this year. So yes I see your point.

    1. The Colts won 11 games. This isn't baseball. The coaching staff this year is light years better than what we had last year, however in the first 8 weeks last year we still had an opportunity to win at the least 4 of them.

    2. His turnovers are what put the Colts behind. Undoubtedly he brought them back, but he put us in that position to begin with.

    3. Arians did a very admirable job filling in for Pagano, but just like in Pittsburgh he nearly got our QB killed with his incompetence. It took him ~10 weeks to figure out that our O-line was too inconsistent for his play calling to work. Again, much like Pittsburgh.

By all means be thrilled with 22pts per game and a below average redzone offense, which is also tied to Arians' offenses. I, however, feel this team was more talented than just 22 points per game. They were way under-utilized I felt, especially with Luck stubbornly being turned into a gun-slinger due to Arians. Again, by all means be satisfied with that, but I simply refuse to.

    4. Pittsburgh was where it was because of their defense NOT because of Arians. There is a reason why LeBeau is still there while Arians is not.

  10. I wouldn't mind having Paul Kruger, but honestly, LB isn't a position of need on our team.

And with Ray going, Baltimore will do its best to keep all our LBs.

Inside linebackers I agree but outside we are going to need help. We need more than just Mathis and Hughes.

  11. If I could afford it, I would help pay for his relocation to Denver. They can't get rid of him soon enough IMO. I will say though, if they kept him in a position like he holds now, just a QB's coach, then I have no problem if he stays, but it really worries me that he may get promoted.

I'm of that same opinion on Arians. Absolutely thrilled the guy could be leaving town.

  12. Grigs is just blowing smoke. He HAS to spend the money. He HAS no choice per new CBA rules, he has to spend 89% of that 46 million which comes out to just under 41 million dollars. It's going to be extremely difficult to spend that much money without making a couple major signings. Unless he way overpays to keep some of our own guys or overpays for average FA's.

I thought it was 90% of the entire cap not just available cap.

  13. That's a nice saying but it is far safer for a TE or RB going across the middle than a little WR.

The middle of the field is where Dallas got all of his concussions, although I felt Peyton hung him out to dry on a couple of those passes.

  14. I don't know how much he will fit Arians system but don't be shocked if we hire Cam Cameron. He worked with Pagano with the Ravens and I could see him bringing him in.

Another dark horse guy to watch is Marc Trestman from the CFL. I don't know if he would give up a CFL Head Coaching job for an OC job in the NFL but he if he would I think he would have a shot. According to Mort Grigson loves him and Mort thinks he was the runner up to Pagano for the Indy job. With that said Trestman is getting some attention for NFL Head Coaching jobs so he would probably be a long shot.

Trestman would be interesting. Just based off what happened this year with Pagano, and how well Arians stepped in, Trestman would be very beneficial if Pagano were to go down again. I would even up the ante and make him Asst. HC/OC, but as you mentioned would he want to give up a HC gig for a coordinator spot.

Going to be a very interesting couple of months...

  15. I never said it was a drop, i said it was a ball that should be caught and wasn't. Official drops only count for perfect on target throws, they do not count a drop on a ball that is not caught and not perfectly on target. That does not always mean though that the receiver shouldn't have made the catch.

Your claim that he never touched the ball is dead wrong. He was one on one with a linebacker down the sideline being faceguarged. Luck put the ball toward his backshoulder and a little short, Fleener went up and had both hands on the ball and then lost it. Difficult catch, sure. A catch that a 6 foot 6 athletic receiving tightend needs to make, absolutely. And this isn't a thread to just pick on Fleener, it's just a point that in general our receivers dont really make many difficult catches outside of Reggie. Luck has not always had much help.

I didn't take it as a knock on Fleener and YES I will agree with you we were talking about two different plays. I was referring to the first play of the game but I actually forgot about the play you are talking about. As I stated I stand corrected...

  16. He also dropped a pass out in the flat early in the game. I think he was targeted maybe twice, so he caught 1 and dropped 1.

But my point still remains, he drops too many balls that a guy that is supposed to be so gifted with size and athletic skill should catch. Take the Houston game for instance, he should have caught that backshoulder throw from Luck. He has to be stronger in traffic.

He didn't drop that pass, Luck threw it behind him and he never had a chance to even touch the ball.
