  1. Crappy work ethic and character issues. No thanks.

Character issues? Yes. Crappy work ethic? Hardly. The guy is an absolute freak. As I stated in another post, the Raiders organization is a virus. Guys who NEVER had issues coming out of college, or pro's who happen to end up there, ends up having the worst brought out of them there. I don't know what it is, and I can't explain it but I tend to be a little more lenient on guys coming from Oakland. If there is any better place to come play and be able to stay clean, its here.

Sorry to say, but he's HEAD AND SHOULDERS better than any ILB we have right now. As much as a fan of Freeman I am, he's no where near the talent that McClain is. Heck, Angerer would be carrying his pads around for him. If he makes waivers and makes it to the Colts, I really hope he pulls the trigger. Running on us would just get THAT MUCH harder.

  2. I think Hunt could actually excel as an OLB for the Colts. He reminds me a lot of a white Julius Peppers. Just an athletic freak. He's roughly 280'ish lbs which is more of a tweener as DE for us. I'd rather see him get down to 270 and let him play the strong side spot then move him to DE when we go to our nickel packages.

  3. 2 different positions they played though, Coverage wise Mathieu cant carry Jenkins jock thats why you see him as a 3rd rounder not just because of some dope and Jenkins was considered by some to be as good if not better then Claiborne, As for 1st round guy prior to off field issues, I have no idea if he would have went in the 1st round if not for his off field issues but I firmly believe there are better Safeties in this draft class then him and that if he is drafted to play Corner it will be for Nickel purposes, He hits ya but he cant cover good.....I also think he lands in New Orleans to compete for the Nickel

He played all over, yes most notably he was used as a slot/free safety player but he does have outside experience as well. However, with Peterson and Claiborne being the bigger of the bunch of course it makes sense to move Mathieu inside or as a "roamer" to disguise coverages. No doubt Jenkins was good but he wasn't playing with the secondary talent that Mathieu was. Had he been at LSU, he may have been forced to the same role as Mathieu.

  4. Actually, he wouldn't. Tyrann is a media creation. He was never, ever going to be a top-5 pick. It's likely he would never, ever have been a 1st round pick.

    Don't believe me?

Tell me when was the last time a cornerback who was under 5'9" and 185 pounds was a 1st round pick. Probably Darrell Green and that was 30 years ago. Plus his corner skills are not great. They need work.

On the pro level, he's a nickel corner, a slot corner, an inside corner. That's it.

At best, he was a 2nd round pick. Now, he's likely a 3rd round pick. He's talented. But he has limitations, and those limitations cap his value.

I know you're knew to the website -- and a belated welcome to you -- but Tyrann has been a pretty common topic for some time....

Ehhh... him and Jenkins are VERY close in size and Jenkins was highly thought of as a first round talent. Top-5? No, but mid - lower level? Yes. Tyrann is/was as highly praised if not more especially being a Heismann finalist and Bednarik award winner as a Sophomore. The kid can ball and before the "issues" was easily a first round guy. I would not be surprised if the guy is gone within first 10 picks of the 2nd round.

  5. he already answered that question.. he would have been a first rounder had he not got in trouble, yet he did it twice

Regardless he wasn't being paid. He had no idea what its like to lose a $100k+ game check. Without a doubt some change and some don't, and by no means am I saying grab this guy in the first, but given the opportunity to take a talent like him for a very small sum on day 2 would be hard for "me" to pass up.

Had the guy had a couple DUI's or beaten a girlfriend, which for some reason doesn't seem to be as rated as high as someone "smoking", which makes no sense to me as those are acts of endangerment, then I would have folded on him in a heartbeat. I guess I don't see "smoking" as much of a big deal as others do.

  6. With so few picks why take the risk. It's not like we don't have other needs. Pass.

    1st round - no

2nd round - Maybe, depending on who else got looked over. (Yes, I know the Colts don't have a 2nd, but there is that chance the Colts trade back.)

    3rd round - Absolutely

I'm not really sure a team is drafting for need in the 3rd round. It would be hard for me not to pull the trigger in the 2nd round either. However, Grigson's draft board may not have him rated as high as other GM's draft boards.

  7. its not that he smoked weed, its he smoked weed after having been in trouble for smoking weed before. how do you think he is going too act after getting paid. no thanks. let the titans or Bengals take him.. maybe the raiders

Looks like Jenkins has handled himself pretty well so far... Again, not saying I condone it, but I also agree with another poster that its an "overblown" act. There was an article a year ago or so that talked about how critical GM's were of it and quite a few said it had little relevance on how they rated said player on their draft board. This was strictly about players who "smoked" and having not been a part of any other illegal activities.

I wouldn't have a problem with taking him especially with him knowing its play and get paid or smoke and be broke. The choice would be his.

  8. I would definitely take him in the 3rd. I think he is a natural football player. He can cover, he can tackle, he has ball skills. I think he will be a very good player. I don't think a player becomes a Heisman candidate, especially on defense, without talent. 2nd round is too high to take him (though it's very possible he does go in that round), but I would take him in the 3rd. If he kept his nose clean, he could have been a first rounder. Personally, I think his off the field issues are overblown

Much like Jenoris Jenkins last year. I think the whole "smoking weed" aspect about players is as you say "overblown". Give me a pot head over a drunk any day. Yes, I am fully aware its an illegal act, and no I don't participate in it, but based on perspective, its treated in a higher regard than PED's in my opinion.

I HIGHLY doubt the guy lasts past the 2nd round like Jenkins did last year. A team will take a chance on him and probably gain a great player at a low cost. It wouldn't surprise me to see him be one of the premier nickel corners in the league relatively quickly.

  9. I'd wait for Rolando McClain to be released by the Raiders. Sure, he's had some issues, but the guy is extremely talented, that big thumper that many are looking for in an ILB, plus with his previous issues he will really have no choice but to play for cheap to prove himself again or risk not playing again.

Not to make excuses for the guy but the Raiders organization seems like one big virus. It seems like a good % of players who play for them, with no prior issues, seem to find a way to get into trouble.

Like Heyward-Bey, for the right money I would have no problems giving McClain a shot here. I feel like this team, much like the Patriots dare I say it, is perfect for guys like this. A family-style atmosphere that actually wins. That can do a lot for a person and we've seen it done before.

  10. People need to stop making the statistical comparisons to Gronkowski and Graham and these other top TE's... Fleener and Allen both should never get to those numbers as long as they are on the team together. When you have two great TE's splitting time, obviously the stats are going to negatively reflect that.

Fleener is going to be fine.

If not, the Colts will be.

The truth that few want to consider right now is this:

Only one of these two will be here past their rookie deal.

Fleener and Allen will not be a tandem for us long-term. So if Fleener turns out to be a bust, meh, oh well. The guy had a blazing fast 40, the size and hands to be a top TE in this league, and he was our new franchise QB's favorite target in college, and they tore defenses up.

Spin it however you want, drafting him will never, eeeeeeever be a bad idea. After that draft, there was no one who covers the NFL who saw it as a bad move. It was the exact opposite: everyone thought it was a great chance we got, and we would have been dumb NOT to have drafted him.

This is just an extended tryout to see which of these guys is going to be our long-term superstar TE.

And if Fleener only turns out to be a Jacob Tamme to our Dallas Clark, my god, poor us.

Not to say I disagree with you in that it very well could happen that one ends up leaving after their rookie contract, but the Pats were able to retain both Gronk and Hernandez. Many thought Hernandez was gone after Gronk got his extension. That offense runs through those two guys and with the talent that Fleener/Allen have I don't see why that can't be the same here.

I like the thought of having Pollard/Dilger 2.0 for a while again.

  11. It would be a no-brainer for me, especially if Rhodes falls that far. WR, to me, this year just isn't a first round position. Physical corners like Rhodes are. Davis, Toler, Rhodes, Bethea, and Landry would probably be the most physical secondary in the league with Seattle. I'd gladly take that over ANY WR this year.

  12. For me, I can see Hughes improvement on rushing the passer with the new defense. What I also see is him getting blown up when directly blocked. He fails to establish an edge on rushing plays and if I had a dollar for every time I have seen him turned or pushed out of the way I could build a new wing onto my home......He is a solid pass rushing entity......I haven't seen enough of him in pass coverage to have an opinion but he is terrible against the run, unless you consider chasing the runner down from behind or from the side as an asset. just my opinion.

I wonder what your opinion of Mathis and Freeney are/were as run defenders if you thought Hughes was bad haha...

  13. I shalt not argue BleedBlu8792!! :) Freeman was super. Here's to hoping he loves playing in the NFL so much that he has worked hard in the off-season to be prepared! It will be nice if we could stop the run for a change!!

Anxious to see Hickman, Killeen, Lutrus and Harvey battle it out for final spots, as well as Angerer...where does Pat fit? Is he finally healthy? Big question marks!!!

I really believe this will be Pat's last year with the team. He just isn't built for this defense IMO. Again just my opinion, but I wasn't impressed with his play when he was the MIKE in our old scheme. He seemed to need help a lot of the time when making tackles and his stats showed that in the amount of solo tackles he had 2 years ago compared to his assists. Granted, a number of those could have been him playing "clean-up" but he just doesn't seem that dominant solo tackler that's needed for this defense. I think he would be better suited to the WILL or possibly the SAM on a 4-3 team. One thing I will say is that he plays with a lot of heart and motor, but sometimes more than that is needed.

  14. We now have a couple of run stuffers....it will make the LB core that much stronger. Conner is our best LB against the run...cannot wait to see if we can see his game go to the next level.

The guys brought in (Walden included) have serious motors. If the likes of Guy, Heard and Geathers can come in an make plays, so should your new signees...I cannot wait to see Walden and Sidbury on the field... :coltslogo::coltslogo:

As much as I do like Connor, I have to say Freeman was an absolute beast against the run as well. He was single-handedly taking AP down himself in the Vikings game. That told me right there this guy is going to really shine. With this new defensive line it wouldn't surprise me to see him being either 1 or 2 in tackles next year in the league. Heck, I believe he was top-5 last year.

  15. Are there any "legit" reports linking us to Fitz? From what I have seen Fitz seems to just be on most people's wish list. I still don't understand the logic behind the Cardinals being willing to trade Fitz either. He is pretty much the only face of the Cardinals franchise they have and he seems exactly the kind of WR Arians would love for his offense and they seem to be going with journeymen QBs which tells me they are planning on having Fitz to help make those guys look better than they really are.

I think Fitz was brought up because Irsay is in Arizona for the owners meeting.
