What reason would they have possibly cut jones before the season?...............

    Please explain.

    What reason?  Take your pick:

He's never healthy, he will never be the player he was before 2 major injuries, he's 30, we have depth at that position now.

Completely and totally plausible.  You don't think anyone has ever been cut after restructuring their contracts?  lol

  2. I'm not with you at all, OP.

First of all, I was expecting Art Jones to be cut regardless before this season started.  So in my eyes, no loss at all.

There is talent and potential decent depth at virtually every defensive position, the likes we haven't seen around these parts in a while.

No juggernaut, mind you, but easily enough to be a defense in the top half of the league.

So if I'm correct and follow what your saying last year you had the Colts winning almost every game. That's what ESPN was saying and the Colts had a "great" offseason.

Agree to disagree. You seem to take the offseason moves to the extreme and listen to ESPN and I tend to make my own decisions and take it with a grain of salt until they prove it more close/during the season.

No, you're not correct and your not following what i'm saying at all.

First off. It's ESPN. I'm surprised they covered anyone but Lebron, Curry, or the Patriots. And Yeah, in some of those they have the Jags above the Colts.

They are basing their predictions off of the offseason. Some do that. I don't I guess. We saw what happened to the Colts the year everyone thought they were "Super Bowl contenders."

Strange.  You pick without taking into consideration any player movement, coaching changes, injuries, draft picks that may have occured in the offseason.  So, essentially, you should just pick based on exactly how teams finished up last season, even though every team, by design, is different than the last season.

Im not sure how someone could say that after they won it last year and didn't lose many players.

To many people base expectations and predictions off of the offseason.

Better tell that to ESPN.  They are one of many that have both the Colts and the Jaguars ahead of Houston.

They were a pretty good team last year with lots of injuries and a revolving door of mediocre QB's.   I think Brock is pretty good and will play hard for them.    The defense is one of the best in the NFL.   Lamar Miller is a very good RB.

No, they weren't.  That's why they had a medicore record, and that's why they got their doors blown off by KC in the first round of the playoffs.

Every other team in the NFL had injuries and brought in new players too.....not just the Texans.

    Colts 9-7

    Texans 9-7

    Jaguars 7-9

    Titans 5-11

I'm not sure. Texans are defiantly the team to beat in the division. After the Colts bad year last year it's hard to say how well they will actually play this year.

Definitely they aren't the team to beat in the division.  A very realistic scenario could see them finishing last in the division.

Just stating my opinion as everyone else is.   Don't confuse it with what I WANT to happen.    I think the Texans will be good again.   I think the Colts have a tough schedule.   I think the Colts defense is unproven.   I think their O-line is unproven.   I'm not sure on their TE position.   I'm afraid Luck may try to take on too much and throw too many INT's.

I hope I am wrong and I probably am. :)

What do you mean good again?  Nobody in the AFC South was good last year, including and especially the Texans.  The Texans haven't been good since like 2012, and almost their entire history they've either sucked or been average.

The Texans aren't doing jack with Obrien. He's basically Jim Harbaugh minus the football knowledge with added crybaby fits in it's place. I know they won a few games last year but so did Kube when he was a Texan, and Kube is generally considered a bottom 5 coach even though he just won a SB!

Agreed.  O'Brien doesn't have the temperament or the acumen to be a successful NFL head coach.

O'Brien is the type of football coach who would leave starters in at the end of a game which they are down by 3 touchdowns, then run a trick play to try and get a cheap touchdown in order to make the score look closer than it really was.  Only to have it backfire and get a starter injured.

He's also the type of guy that, in a playoff game they didn't even belong in, run a direct snap to his star DE on the goalline.  Only to have it backfire.

If I had known you were using QBR, I wouldn't have bothered. QBR isn't real. Osweiler is better than Hoyer, and I'm not even an Osweiler fan.

Mallett started four games for Houston, and played in two others. He was a part of the equation. Doesn't change anything, as Osweiler is better than him, too.

Fitzpatrick has a strong case, but was very inconsistent.

End of the day, I don't understand why O'Brien is considered to be a good coach by some. He's quickly reached overrated status, IMO. But I don't think he's had any QBing worth mentioning since he's been in Houston.

I go by actual statistics and production on the field, not feelings, eye tests and measurables.

Hoyer was better and more productive than Osweiller in 2015.  There is nothing tangible to indicate Osweiller was better.

Mallett, as I explained, isn't material to this discussion and not part of my original point.

Who was Houston's top ten rated QB in 2014? And how was Osweiler worse than Hoyer/Mallett in 2015?

    1)  Ryan Fitzpatrick, rated 9th in the league (ESPN)

    2)  Because he was rated as being worse:

    #18 Hoyer (ESPN).....

    #25 Osweiller (ESPN).....

Mallett is immaterial.  Should go without saying that I was referring to Houston's regular starting qb for the season, Hoyer;  not everyone who took a snap.  Just as I was for 2014 when referring to Fitzpatrick.

Not sure why that made you laugh.  I think it is pretty-well accepted that O'Brien is one of the better coaches in the league.  Winning like they have done with the hot-mess they have had at QB's in the last couple of years tells me they have to be getting pretty good coaching/

How is O'Brien any better than Pagano?  Houston has yet to have a good team in either season he has coached.  In 2015 the Colts QB position was eons worse than that of Houston's.  In 2014 Houston had a top 10 rated QB.....how is that a "hot mess"?

Not to mention Osweiller was worse last year than what Houston had in 2014 or 2015.  How will that improve them?

Lastly, that wildcat play on the goalline last year in the playoffs with Watt was certainly the stuff of genius and i'm sure garnered O'Brien alot of respect in the coaching community.....lol

Please explain how we are set at ILB ... I just don't it see a few guys coming of major injuries and old man rivers then a few camp bodies  / maybe bottom of roster just for depth because we have nobody better

Yeah.....ILB may be debatable now that you mention it. We won't be able to address OLB, DL and ILB in this draft, so I think of those 3, actually DL is the one that we could most afford not to address, depending on Anderson's health and Jones' status.  I'm assuming Jones will be let go and Anderson will not be 100% at the beginning of the year, so we would need to bring in a guy there, and I definitely think we need another NT to complement Parry.  But we could do worse than Kerr as a backup NT, I suppose.

I would like to use our two second round picks on Day Two on Defense.

We have five serious defensive needs.    OLB, CB, DL, ILB, S.

Gotta believe we can address them in Rounds two and three.       (and also in R's 4 and 5 on Saturday!)

You listed every defensive position as a serious need.

CB, ILB and S are not serious needs.  CB & ILB our top 4 are set.  S our top 2 are set, but we could use depth after that.  OLB sure is a serious need though.  As is DL.  I think we need 2 OLB, a NT and a DE.

OK Jason, what is either inaccurate or overblown?  We are the OLDEST team in the league, so much for building a franchise, and for every one decent FA or draft signings by Grigson, there are four or five really bad ones.

Yeah.....the oldest because our kicker and backup qb were over 40, and our fourth best WR who just got cut was not far behind.  Big deal.  Don't act like the core of this team is devoid of youth.

we have 3 receivers, T.Y., Moncreif, and our yet unproven #1 pick Dorsett.

We cant expect all three to stay healthy all season. Lots of needs on team but we need to replace A.Johnson and Carter for #4 & #5 spots for depth. And please no more griff.

We need to replace Carter?  Why would we need to replace someone who wasn't on the team last year?
