That same prayer was answered last year with Raimann.   There’s a reasonable expectation it can happen this year with Freeland.

I’ve given you a mountain of facts.  All you’ve responded with is a mountain of opinion.   Not sure why you won’t accept it?

Well NCF Raimann is encouraging, but it’s your opinion that we’ve got our guy.  That is not clear.

and i share the opinion BtW.

I’d trade him to the worst team in the league, with the worst run blocking OL and the worst QB. Not sure which team that is, but that’d ne where I’d be looking

I wouldn’t be personally vindictive against him.  I’d simply attempt to get the most value out of him to help the Colts win in the future.

Hes done nothing wrong but he’s done something dumb.  Ie. No leverage.

it only takes one team though.

Personally I have zero beef with how Taylor has handled his situation. This is how contract disputes work. It's never pretty, and if you really want to force the hand of the other party, you have to get your hands dirty. Something about breaking eggs to make an omelet... I don't know for sure what Taylor wants, or how it will work out, but his only way to wrestle some leverage is to break some eggs.

I do think he misplayed his hand. Especially if he's not healthy. I think there are only so many teams that are willing to give a RB a big, multi year contract, and the Colts are one of them. The primary reason they haven't offered him said contract so far is because they don't know if he's healthy or not. (Or worse, they know that he's NOT healthy. Which is a big problem, especially for him.) And then he and his agent publicly antagonized the team that would potentially want to keep/pay him, which has caused a portion of the fan base to turn on him. But I don't blame him for wanting to get a new contract right now, rather than playing out another year of what should be his physical prime on a rookie contract, with a team that might not even want to feature him in the run game.

To me, it's the business. It's not fun, but it's also not personal. So I haven't flipped on him, I'm not mad at him, and I actually hope he stays. But I don't think he's picked the right strategy here. If he gets a fat contract in a trade, then I'll be wrong. I just don't really see that happening...

Ditto.  Dudes doin business.  It looks like bad business but it’s just business.

Part of the problem with how the Aaron Rodgers trade happened is that the Packers let Rodgers go out and talk to teams without stipulating trade compensation first. So when Rodgers goes out and says 'I intend to play for the Jets,' now the Jets can wait out the Packers, knowing that they're the only game in town.

Maybe that would have gone the same way no matter what; it's no surprise that he wanted to team back up with Hackett. But the Packers didn't do themselves any favors by not stipulating trade compensation in advance.

as long as it’s done before, it’s safe.  We ain’t getting much I wouldn’t think, but weirder things have happened.  The Browns uncharacteristically fleeced a team once for a first for a RB.  Then they went back to being Brown like and spent it on Manziel.

If I’m the Colts I’m not doing Taylor and that so called agent of his any favors when it comes to trading him.No way im sending him to the Chiefs,Bills,Ravens,Dolphins,or any other Superbowl contender,I don’t want to see him get rewarded with a Superbowl with the way he’s been here.Send him to the Cardinals or Bucs.

If I’m the Colts, I’m simply trying to get the most value out of him.

The primary reason teams do sign and trades in the NBA is because the current team can give the player more money and years, so the current team needs to execute the contract. But because of the way signing bonuses are allocated in the NFL, it generally doesn't make sense for the current team to execute the contract with the player, so it's not really a "sign and trade."

But it's not a gentleman's agreement; it's all contractual. With the Buckner deal, the two teams agreed to trade compensation, then the Colts negotiated the contract, then Buckner had to pass a physical. Only after all of that was the trade and the contract finalized. If Taylor finds a team willing to meet the Colts' price to trade for JT, then the Colts would grant that team permission to negotiate a contract with JT, and the trade and contract would be made official once the new team clears him physically.

The concern would be that the potential trade would leak before it's official, then he fails the physical and the deal comes undone. That could be a huge problem, especially if the Colts aren't willing to match the contract.

    Gotcha thanks.  Makes sense.

Like The Dude said, this case has a lot of ins outs and what have yous.

Ah. That's what we did with the Buckner trade. It happens a couple times a year.

Not to quibble because that situation is different.  In the NBA I think the trading team signs the guy then trades him.  I think I’m not sure though.

was the buck deal a signed deal to get that money or was a a “gentleman’s agreement” between the Colts and Buck?

if that were the case I think a gentleman’s agreement between Bears or MIA and JT would possibly be problematic.

Never seen a three team trade in the NFL... You can do a sign and trade, it's a point of negotiation. What usually happens is the two teams agree to trade compensation, then the new team negotiates a contract, and the trade is official once the player passes a physical. Speaking of...

Technically, the trade isn't official unless the player can pass a physical. And once he passes a physical, he can't go back on PUP. It could work in the offseason, but once camp starts, no sir. So if Taylor were traded, he'd have to somehow find good health again, I guess.

Ok thanks.  I thought you couldn’t do an agreement between 2 teams contingent on the player getting an extension for some reason.  That’s what I meant by 3 party.  An agreement between the teams contingent on an an agreement to the new team and the player.

I have a feeling we might see some miraculous healing magic, but that would depend on MIA giving up a 1st from what someone posted here according to a source.

Do American football trainers have that magic spray that works so well in association football players?  That might work for Taylor if they haven’t tried it yet.

They already accepted his premise at the start of camp. It would be interesting to see them insist that he's "cleared" now if he is insisting that he's not ready to practice. If they did, he could easily go find a camera and microphone and try to accuse the team of forcing him to play injured, even though he says he's not ready. It would be bogus, but that seems unnecessarily confrontational from the team's side. They'd be better off trading him, IMO.

You can’t be traded on the MLB DL.  Can you be traded on the PuP?

Again.. why TF am I getting notifications about this?! Don't we already know this??

I see "breaking news Jonathan Taylor" my heart skips a beat like oh we settled on a deal?! No we are allowing him to request a trade... Holy crap ESPN and Taylor..

    Just be gone already

Well to this point I don’t think he has permission to seek a trade from the team, at least officially.

Ok. Now we find out what the market will bear.

I’m not sure about that simply because he’s ahem injured, is believed to be soft holding out, and is due to make a number this year he can’t as of yet accepted.

If there were assurances that he’s healthy and will play for his current deal, then the market value would be revealed.

I don’t think you can do NBA style sign and trades in the NFL.  @Superman do you know about that?  You are the contract guru around here.  Can you do a deal a 3 party sign and trade in this league?

You must have missed Moose bagging on him his first 3 seasons.   He thinks leonard was always overrated.   Obviously wrong on both.   But I bet you agree.

I think and always thought Leonard was overrated simply because he wasn’t an elite cover guy.  I liked him but was not on board with the mega contract he received coming off injury and playing at 218 LBs.  I thought his money would be allocated better elsewhere in today’s passing dominated game.

I was concerned with Nelson’s number coming off injuries (especially back)and surgery and getting paid like a LT.

However, I LOVED Nelson during his first 3 seasons.  He was the only G I ever remember being fun to watch.  Loved his hustle and support of his teammates. I lived watching whoever that guy Balldinger maybe ?  Who had his IHOP segments that people would link here.

See JVan, unlike many on here my views aren’t personal and I have no attachment to any of these guys at all personally.  They’re all kids and I’m an old man and none of them are my kids, relatives or from my hometown.  Throughout my childhood and into my 20s, I was emotionally attached to my sports heroes.  As I grew older I no longer had that attachment.  I just want to see my sports teams compete and win.  I like some of the guys on my teams but I feel no attachment.

so everything I post comes from that mindset.  I understand some guys enjoy the team differently and want to feel bonded with our guys.  That’s cool too.  But I don’t share that.

Probably because you have had a bias against Nelson since he was drafted.  And while I give Fredo Lombardi very little credence,  he has been an NFL executive.   He has spent thousands of hours with scouts.  So yeah.   Makes sense to me

Sure but Nelson hasn’t been great for 2 full seasons now with consecutive sub 70 pffs.

So it shouldn’t be hard for any cogent being to understand someone not believing Q is “blue chip” at this point.  One might not agree, but it shouldn’t be too hard to see someone’s reasonable position that he is not elite as of now.

Matter of fact it seems like only posturing or lack of reality could be the causes of someone not seeing the reasonableness of the logic.

My guess is that Nelson’s dramatic decline the LAST TWO FULL SEASONS is primarily a result of his injuries, likely his back issues are causing him to be less dominant.

Hopefully, we will see dominance once again, but if it is indeed back related that is far from guaranteed.

Again, I don’t see the need to ask an explosive question when everyone knows it won’t be answered and it only puts stress on a difficult situation.

But this is precisely the job of journalists.  To ask tough questions.  To ask softball questions as if Jenny Finch were pitching, not the fat guy in the beer league.

Not trying to make it personal, but in light of what you told me once on a PM, you are not truly a believer in journalism as it was understood.

Here you seem to be advocating a journalist to be a life coach, reducing stress.

    Not good IMO.

The media asks Steichen about Taylor at every media availability.   He gives a very limited answer to a simple basic question.  But you and Supe think they should ask far more detailed questions.   The problem is the Colts have made it clear they have zero interest in that kind of question right now.

To ask that question every day is, in essence, picking a public fight with the Colts.   The media becoming the issue is rarely a good look.   We cover the news, we don’t want to become the news.

And this debate is over the timing.   The Colts, JT and his agent will answer your questions in roughly 7-14 days.   Maybe not at one presser.   Perhaps over several days as new info becomes known.   But it appears it won’t be today and things here have come to a head over it.

I agree not everyday.  No reason to badger.

But the question should have been asked by now if it hasn't IMO.

And I understand the collegiality of the press corps, but if that collegiality interferes with asking obvious questions not to rock the boat.  That's not good IMO.
