  1. I think we just need to stick with what we have a RB this year. Anymore backs are taking to much of a beating and then they don't have as much in their "prime" like they used to. Look a Michael Turner. I think the NFL is switching to where you do "running by commitee" and just have 3-4 guys try and carry the load. Have fresh legs and switch 'em in and out. Look at when we won it all. And when the Giants won twice. Keep money off the RBs and pour it into OL and we have to save up for Andrew's big contracts to keep him in Indy after he gets us a few Super Bowls :goodluck:

A running back picked at #24 will be very cheap for 5 years.

I am with you on the Colts Super Bowls. :)

  2. Sorry but I don't see it edge looked ten times smoother in his movement .

I don't think you give Lacy enough credit. His movements are very similar to Edgerrin. He is a north and south runner (downhill) just like Edgerrin was, and he has the power and speed that Edgerrin had (pre injury).

I believe this kid is going to be a star. I like him more than any of the other Bama running backs that have come out in a while.

  3. Can Ballard get a whole year starting before trying to add another one. We already have 3 backs that brings 3 different things to the table

Donald cannot stay healthy and Carter can't hang on to the ball. Irsay and Grigson both said that we are not a one back team and do not plan to be. Those days have been over for most teams for a long time now. I can see Lacy and Ballard being the new James and Rhodes, only with splitting carries more evenly.

  4. Dang, I likened him. Just saw it posted on Rotoworld.

I wouldn't mind Jacoby Jonea returning kicks for us.. Don't see him leaving Baltimore though.

Who will return our kickoffs now?

I was surprised that we did not try to keep Deji early in the offseason, but we could still bring him back later. He will be a league minimum guy.

  5. Do you believe that Irsay's twitter use somewhat hamstrings Grigson? As we all know, this mysterious wr has caused many of us to lose sleep, but I can only wonder what it does to Grigs. When Irsay over-hypes a marginal player, many of us are disappointed. What say you?

  6. Many see him as a better Donnie Avery.

He could be a solid #2.

I will agree with that. He did suffer a brutal concussion last year, and we know how those issues linger. I think he would be worth bringing in. There was a rumor surfacing that the Jets were trying to sign him 3-4 days ago so that could make sense as to why contract talks could have stalled with us. That said, it is not like we are talking about a huge contract here. I doubt any team would give DHB more than a few million a year. DHB should do himself a favor to sign a one-year deal with a good quarterback and give himself another contract year, just as Avery did.

  7. He said on air that "his" people that are close to the Colts say this is the logical target.

Makes sense really...      Speed guy opposite Wayne and lets Hilton play in the slot...

Chap was also just on.    And he said Irsay stated he was pursuing a FA WR.    Not new news...     But a far cry from all the "whopper" talk we've been hearing.     OH well..

I think DHB is becoming very likely.. .

I don't know what to believe, but I think Mohamed Massaquoi or Julian Edelman make more sense. It could work with DHB as he surely has the speed. I see Massaquoi and Edelman as the only two free agent wide receivers that I would consider a "whopper". Both are young players with a ton of upside, and it is hard to judge their market value right now. I can see contract negotiations tough with each of them.

I see DHB as a potentially good signing, but it is hard to imagine that a contract would take 7 days to complete.

Grigson said that he scouts players that we play against and Edelman had a great day against us.

If it is DHB then good luck to defenses trying to cover TY and DHB running all over the field. I wouldn't want to do it.

  8. Still don't like the fact Hasselbeck really only wants to ride the bench for a team with playoff aspirations.

Sounds like he wants free money and a free ring.

Hasselbeck is 37 years old and he knows the likelihood of a team building around him is slim to never happening. Hasselbeck appreciates a strong rising team, with a brilliant young quarterback, and if Luck were to get hurt then an opportunity would surface to finish the job. This might be his best chance to have a ring, and therefore his best chance to contribute to getting a ring.

  9. I'd bet $120.6m that he's not (wish I had it).

I agree wholeheartedly; you have to pay your quarterback, especially when he's worth it. Manning always was and still is, Brady is, Brees is, Rodgers is, etc.

My only point is that I don't agree with the general consensus that you can't have other good players if you have a top tier quarterback. I agree that you can't be major players in free agency, and you have a smaller margin for error in the draft, and you can't afford to make mistakes with your own free agents. But there's still plenty of room to field a strong team around a top tier quarterback.

What's going to suck for the Ravens is when this talent bleed catches up to them, and they miss on a couple of draft picks, and Flacco is exposed as being a pretty good quarterback who can't carry a mediocre team, and then they're stuck in the doldrums. But the talent bleed isn't because of Flacco. Not yet.

Ah there it is. I never said, a team couldn’t have good players and have an elite quarterback. That said, I don’t believe there is “plenty” of cap room when you have an elite quarterback; not if a team is playing for a Super Bowl. I believe that a team paying big money to an elite quarterback has to lean heavy on the draft and pick up value in free agency. No big splashes. Holding onto your own becomes harder. Right now we have about 16 million extra on the cap that we won’t have after Lucks rookie deal. We are not going to severely backload a contract on a player like Luck while he is in his mid-twenties so he is going to get the money just like Peyton did, and that will show on the cap.

  10. I got your point. Was just pointing out that you can pay a quarterback $20m a year and still be okay. Especially as the cap goes up in coming years.

Also, a lot is being made of the Ravens not being able to keep their guys because of Flacco's contract. As much as I don't think he should be paid what he's being paid, his contract is very team friendly in 2013 ($6.8m). Suggs has a cap hit nearly twice as high. Haloti Ngata is hitting for $11.5m in 2013. The Ravens can make some moves to free up cap space if they want. But the reason they are letting players walk and getting rid of others is because they had a tight situation to contend with, even before Flacco's contract was done. Has very little to do with what they're paying him.

I am not signing checks so it is not my money, but this is a league where you either pay an elite quarterback (when you’re lucky to grab one) a handsome ransom or you have money and no quarterback. Obviously this league is quarterback driven. Some situations just are what they are, and elite quarterbacks have to carry their teams, after their first deal ends, and that is because of the money they are making. Right now 20 million dollars is 6th of a team’s salary cap. It is just the way it is. We have an opportunity to take advantage of Lucks cap friendly deal right now, and I believe that is what we are doing.

Flacco’s contract is going to hit the Ravens soon and they will feel it. We were able to keep paying Peyton big money because he was talented enough to be successful as we brought in draft picks and undrafted free agents. I believe Luck is made of the same mold. I am not sure Flacco is.

  11. I am sure we will not see the fifth year of Lucks deal, as they will want to lock him up, and not let him enter a contract year. I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying. It is how the NFL works. I never said it wasn’t. My point was that I believe we are setting these contracts up the way we are right now, because the front office knows that a big payday for Luck is coming, and they are preparing for it. We don’t want to be in the Ravens cap troubles.

Luck's deal expires after 2015. We have a team option for a fifth year, which will be a pretty high cap hit if we carry it in 2016.

But you still have to put a team around your quarterback. I understand why people are concerned about paying one player a lot of money, but that's the nature of the business. There are a lot of teams in the NFL paying premium money for their quarterback who are still able to pay other players good money. We had several players who were "the highest paid at their position" around Manning.

The kind of contracts we've given out this offseason aren't the kind that would preclude us from being able to pay the quarterback $20m/year.
