A lot of folks on this board were with me on the Herbert express. I get the Buckner deal, which we later pulled off. It made sense. But wow! How different would the Colts have been over the past few years, had we moved up and taken Herbert?
It took me forever to dig this thread back up. A lot of folks hit on Herbert too. I only remembered it being a few, but there were many with me on this. Some excellent back and forth’s in this old thread.

Look back. Frank's offense put up some really good stats the last 5 years with average talent.
Average talent? You mean top tier offensive linemen, and a top 3 running back? He put too much pressure on that offensive line. Only helped them with running backs picking up free rushers.
Frank’s playbook got stale. He was trying to run the old Marchibroda K-Gun. And didn’t evolve it to fit the team personnel. Frank and Chris Ballard were definitely not on the same page with building the team. We saw the fallout of it this season.
This offensive personnel is built for smashmouth football.
It’s time for a total rebuild.

So Ryan decided it’s time to make some tight window throws lol. Little to late.
To me, Ryan has looked more comfortable in the second half of this game than he has all year. -
Ryan has thrown a lot of 50/50 balls on this drive.

Maybe the passing designs are developed due to the talent at the receiver positions??
I don’t see it that way. We are still using Frank’s playbook. Maybe with some minor tweaks and bigger sets. It’s near impossible to create a new playbook midseason. Frank got too cute… Put too much on the 5 offensive linemen. Didn’t give them any help. Saturday started to max protect, and then JT started going off. -
If we want to maximize JT’s talents then we need to build a playbook around 21 and 22 personnel with a real fullback. Pittman would be perfect for that offensive set. Believe it or not… So would Dulin. I have graded him as our best blocking receiver, this season.
And I like the growth of Woods. He could become a legit tight end in this league.

Aikman is right. It’s what I’ve been seeing on the tape too. The passing play designs are terrible. The Colts need an entire new offensive playbook.

We got away with running into the punter earlier. That’s even now.

Tony Brown has to know the receiver is going to sit in that corner. He had no room to go anywhere. If he goes out of bounds then he becomes ineligible. You pin him in the corner. Just another mental mistake.

Facyson is playing some very tight coverage tonight. Even when he doesn’t make the play, he is in the correct position.

Gus Bradley is blitzing a lot more tonight than usual.
-
Z absolutely hit the wrong gap. Not sure what he was thinking there. Huge mental error.

That’s a crappy roughing the passer call. Trying to swat at the pass.

Matt Ryan is actually starting to look comfortable. Stepping up in the pocket. Looking downfield. These last couple of drives, he has shown glimpses of his younger years.

For those that remember the upper deck of the Hoosier (RCA) Dome was the place to be.
First row of the upper deck was a nice view. I had some really nice seats at the Dome though. Lower level, 50 yard line, Colts side, Stadium seats. -

Interestingly enough, so far, only one person has selected the period that includes 1984.
I did not respond to the poll. I’m guessing many folks didn’t. My guess is the results would paint a different story if 1984 was an isolated option.
It would make even more sense, if the poll was the Baltimore years, then isolated to 1984, then 85 to pre-Peyton, then the Peyton years, then the Luck years, then post Luck. That’s a poll I would like to see the results for.
-
Should have been an option for just 1984… That’s when many of us became Colts fans. It’s a landmark date that cannot be mixed in a range of years.

I’m fine with the playcalling. I didn’t say anything about the playcalling, I said the sack and then Pittman’s hold were bad
The refs are calling this very tight... It is that kind of game...
Our caching staff is doing a great job... They are putting our team in position to win this game.
It might seem conservatives to some folks, but this is the way it goes sometimes... Our coaching staff has correctly read the temperature of the room, and we are out coaching the Eagles.
The holding calls suck. No one is getting away with anything out there today.

Really bad offensive possession. The OL and Pittman’s hold really screwed that up

Just curious guys...
What play call would you suggest on 3rd and 19?
Keep in mind the Colts are up by 10 (2 scores)...
