  1. We don't know what kind of defense Pagano wants to run. I'm excited to see who he hires as defensive coordinator. But don't kick Freeney out the door just yet. The Ravens do a lot of different things on defense, and those wrinkles would make our end combination even better.

I am just preparing myself for this cause there is a very good chance I am right here.

I am just not seeing where Freeney fits into this picture.

We run like 99% zone and probably 40-50% of it isTampa2. Perfect for Freeney, but I think those days are long gone.

  2. I know I will get a lot of hate replies over this, but think about it. Freeney is a zone DE and he does that job well. Could you really see him playing well on the Ravens defense? I can't.

I love Freeney but this may be the end for him.

If it is then Thank You Dwight for all of the GREAT Memories!

We can't afford to pay him that much money.

  3. It wouldn't matter if our Head Coach was "defensive-minded," because that's not his job. His is to instill leadership, attitude, an overall gameplan, and some measure of player control. He has to be concerned with both sides of the balk, but not at the micro level. If our HC starts trying to micro-manage one side of the ball, we will be in trouble. His job is to hire coordinators he can delegate to. Whatever the future of the Colts defense will look like will be 100% up to the DC, not the HC...that is, unless we want to fail.

    This is absolutely correct.

    Liked!

  4. Well Somebody in Miami wants him bad and he is on the top of their wish list. Didnt think I would hear the day Manning might be a Dolphin. I would have to root for them BUT if that day comes please bring Reggie with u Peyton. Dolphin stadium is alot closer afterall. lol

It is sad knowing that might actually be possible. OUCH!

  5. Honest question - would you have felt better if I just simply said that his interpretation of the commercial was a stretch instead of asking if he pulled a muscle in doing so? Would that have met your standard of decency?

It's not about what I want. It is about the standard the forum is trying to set across the board. If you notice, I have said that I don't think it amounts to much, but I didn't belittle the guy in the process. It was nice to see Peyton joking around and having fun. It lifted my spirits about him returning. Did it not lift yours?

  6. Since Irsay says we will have a coach soon and there will be some surprises over the next few weeks, I am curious who you think the HC will be after that is said. I know Tressel is getting a lot of press in that area. But my darkhorse pick is Jon Gruden.

    1) He is very good with the West Coast offense, which is pretty much what the Eagles have run under Reid. Grigson is already schooled in getting players for that type of team.

    2) He is still considered a great developer of NFL QBs. Very enticing for Andrew Luck and very QB friendly for Peyton Manning.

    3) He has never stopped his gushing of Peyton Manning.

    4) He lives in Florida and that is where the Irsay jet has been rumored to have been.

I honestly think Gruden is a good HC. The problem with him, with many coaches, is that he started getting too much input in personnel. And he never had a real good QB at TB. But if he simply coached, he could be very good. He fits the profile.

That is my surprise pick. Curious who you all think the HC will be?

The only thing that makes me believe it is not Gruden is something that Irsay said in a recent press conference. Irsay said he wants a coach with the demeanor of never being too up or being too down. He said he liked that Caldwell was always the same tone every week.

Hey I love Gruden and if he is the guy then bring him on. But it doesn't add up to me.

  7. One of the big complaints about Caldwell was his only meaningful HC experience was at Wake Forest and his record was not that good.

Tressel, if nothing else, is a winner. Unlike some, I don't sweat what he did at Ohio State too much. We are talking *ic NCAA rules- the most conveluted, stupid set of rules ever created for managing a sport. That he tried to help his players, when as college students, they >>>ed up- is not a crime. He is known as a great game planner and game manager- something we have sorely missed these last few years. He is also a players coach, something that we have had around here for a while and I think that plays in his favor with Irsay in particular.

If he is hired, I would not be terribly surprised. It would be interesting to see what kind of staff he could compile. If he is hired, would like to see him get strong OC & DC's who know NFL football rather than college coaches. If he's not hired- won't be surprised if he sticks around here in one capacity or another.

Really just don't want to see them take a flyer on some assistant with no proven leadership ability. One of the reasons I liked Grigson's comment about leadership. You don't have to have a screamer on the sidelines, but you do have to have someone who can be respected and creates a positive atmosphere to win games.

You are making a strong case. I can't disagree with any of that.
