  1. Coughlin in Indy? From one Manning to another? His contract is up this year. Do you think the Giants will renew. If people remember they were talking about getting rid of him. Does that change now that they are on fire as of late? Giants found a running game and the defense has stepped up.

I think he stays in New York. That entire organization is very loyal to their own coaches.

  2. Its amazing to me that people make statements like this when they have the internet at their finger tips. Tressel started out being a QB's, recievers, and running backs coach before getting the HC job at Youngstown st.. How exactly does that make him a defensive guy. Tressel is an offensive guy. The internet is your friend.

I have seen many talk about Tressel the same way and have just ignored it. It never made any sense to me either. I can see why they make the connection because of how well Ohio State was defensively, but yes, he is an offensive guy.

  3. I mean seriously, Jim Harbaugh? Chris Hinton? Bill Brooks. All nice players but it kind of speaks to how pathetic the Colts organization was in Indianapolis before Manning that all these decent players are in our ring of honor.

    Dude,

    Wow!

Chris Hinton was one of the best tackles in the 1980's. One of the best of all time. He went to seven Pro Bowls! And that was back when the right players actually went to the Pro Bowl.

Jim Harbaugh was just one hail mary away from taking us to the Super Bowl, which at the time was something no Colts fan really expected. Peyton has raised the expectations since then. Before then we were an up and down team from year to year (mostly down).

Bill Brooks was rookie of the year and had he played for another team his whole career would have been an NFL Super Star.

So, I totally disagree with you.

  4. I don't know exactly know how contracts work so I was wondering if anyone knows how it works.

Where does this 28 million exist in Peyton contract?

His base salary is 7.4 million, has a signing bonus for 4 million, a misc. bonus of 5.6 million, and I guess that means a cap hit of 17 million. Minus the signing and misc bonus does that mean 18.4 million is just "expendable money?" I could be wrong about this.

    Now here Andrew says,

Now based on Cam Newton's contract, number one draft pick in the 2011 draft, he made $375 thousand in base salary and $3.6295 million in a signing bonus. That gave him a $4.0045 million cap hit against the Panthers.

So based on this combined Peyton and the number one draft choice will be a $21 million cap hit against the Colts. I don't know where Andrew Brandt got $50.5 million total. By what Andrew says it would be around a $32 million cap hit.

Also what is the total the Colts are aloud on the Cap hit?

Contracts and cap structures are very simple once you understand all of the rules.

If I signed you to a 5 year 50 million dollar deal that included a 10 million dollar signing bonus and a 5 million dollar roster bonus due in year two then this is an example of how it could play out:

I would give you 10 million at the time you signed.

    first year base 2 mill

second year base 3 mil plus 5 mil roster bonus

    third year base 8 mil

    fourth year base 10 mil

    fifth year 12 mil

    The cap hit would be:

    year 1: 4 mil

    year 2: 10 mil

    year 3: 10 mil

    year 4: 12 mil

    year 5: 14 mil

    Really simple stuff.

As an owner I could cut you after year one and it would only cost me 12 million.

  5. I Knew This Day Would Come. I Like Mathis I Wish We Could Keep Him But This Is Why We Drafted Jerry Hughes So Early Its His Time To Provide For This Team. He Has The Same Techniques As Freeny The Speed, Acceleration, and Strength. Also there Are rumors that Dwight is ganna work with Jerry in the offseason.

    Uh... mmm... wha... nnn.... meh...

    What!

Jerry Hughes is the worst first round draft pick that Bill Polian ever made. The guy was inactive for as many games as he was active and it wasn't because of injury. And that was with playing on a horrrible defense.

I would be very surprised if Hughes ever makes another teams 53 man squad after we let him go and in my opinion his days are over here as soon as the new coaches see him on tape.

  6. I think that's called doing his job. You do realize he's an NFL analyst now, right?

Really? Since when? It's probably NBC, right? That would make sense.

Thanks for keeping me updating on the latest and greatest news.

Congrats to Dungy, 3 years later. Yeehaw!

I am sure you realize that we are fans on a message board right? It's not our job, just for the record.

  7. I disagree Clyde is not good in my opinion, if being good was the only thing to keeping your job I think John Terlink should have stayed.

I believe Teerlink is gone because the entire defensive concept is out. We haven't scrapped the offense yet because we don't know which direction we are heading into yet. We just knew the defense had to go.

  8. just give it time. he will be axed

Maybe, but maybe not. Last year wasn't his fault. He doesn't sign players and the quarterbacks were a mess last season. I could see this going either way. With Peyton, it would make more sense to keep Clyde around. Might as well keep the offense the same or close to it. If Peyton doesn't come back then it would make sense to move on to a new concept.

  9. I just read in the local newspaper that the Colts signed Mario Harvey LB from Marshall University.

I wouldn't read too much into this. It's that time of year to sign these types of players. They are bodies for camp and some make it; most don't. Polian would have been signing these players as well at this time of the year.

  10. I posted in another thread how I feel the texans could be the most complete team in the nfl and without a doubt in the afc south. Instead of teams building their teams to beat us in the south we must now all build to best the texans. Here's my post

They are cleaning house Ryan is bringing people in that he wants and they are going to have to build this team to best the texans.

The texans are prob the most compete team in the nfl when healthy. We need to rebuild, change philosophy to get big run stopping d players in here and become a good defensive team while also stayingg the offense powerhouse we are use to. Getting luck is a good step in the right direction to secure the qb position in Indy. Then we just build through the draft and FA these next couple years. I think we will see the best colts team we have seen (most complete on defense and offense) in a long time. I think Irsay, Grigson learned a lot from the manning era. You can have the goat at qb but if you don't put a complete team on the field you won't compete well in the playoffs.

I am very excited for the future with all new coaches and assistants

Do you think the texans healthy are the team to beat next year?

:edit: build team to BEAT texans. Typing on iPhone sorry for typo if mod could fix title that would be great.

I don't buy into that. I think the Texans have a good team and are built the right way, but we will have 14 other games on our schedule.

In my opinion, we should start by resolving our QB issue (which we are) and then concentrate on the lines (both sides of the ball). I think it is important that we keep Reggie. I know this isn't normally what teams do (keep an old receiver), but in our case we really need him next year and we could franchise him for around 8 million. We need to become a team with a good mixture of man vs. zone on defense. We can do all of that this season. We can start the process and be successful with tons of room to grow.

  11. Dungy did say that he is helping the Colts finding the new HC. I don't know if that is good or a bad thing that he is having an helping hand in the HC search? We all know how he helped when he found our HC when he retired and how did that work out. Someone just should tell him he is not with the Colts anymore! I think he still thinks he is still with the Colts. How he is helping with the new HC search.

That and Dungy has been a little loose lipped since he left the Colts.

  12. Tom Clements - My Choice as the Colts Next Head Coach

"Tom Clements, entering his 19th season in the coaching profession, is in his sixth year as Green Bay’s quarterbacks coach."

"A three-year starter at Notre Dame (1972-74) under Ara Parseghian, Clements led the Irish to a 29-5 record, including an unblemished national championship season in 1973. An All-American in 1974, he finished fourth in Heisman Trophy balloting when Archie Griffin earned the award. Clements received his degree in economics from Notre Dame in 1975."

"Inducted into the Canadian Football League’s Hall of Fame in 1994"

"Clements served under Lou Holtz as quarterbacks coach (1992-94) and wide receivers/assistant head coach (1995) at his alma mater, Notre Dame. While with the Fighting Irish, Clements coached eventual 1993 NFL Rookie of the Year QB Rick Mirer, and WR Derrick Mayes, the Packers’ second-round draft pick in 1996. In addition, he tutored QB Ron Powlus, Notre Dame’s career passing leader in attempts, completions, yardage and touchdowns at the time of his graduation."

"Mike Ditka gave Clements his first NFL coaching job, hiring him to coach the Saints’ quarterbacks (1997-99), a group that included Jake Delhomme and Kerry Collins."

"Clements served as Pittsburgh’s quarterbacks coach for three seasons (2001-03) under Bill Cowher. In 2002, he helped Tommy Maddox earn the Comeback Player of the Year award from The Associated Press, as Pittsburgh’s passing offense ranked seventh in the NFL, its highest finish since 1980 with Terry Bradshaw under center."

"Clements also worked with Pittsburgh’s Kordell Stewart (2001) and Kansas City’s Elvis Grbac (2000) during each quarterback’s best season, both culminating in Pro Bowl berths."

"Clements spent two seasons (2004-05) as offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills. In 2004, the Bills’ offense increased its scoring output by 152 and reduced its number of sacks allowed from 51 to 38, fewest by a Bills team since 1999."

"In Green Bay, Clements’ extensive tutelage of Aaron Rodgers has paid dividends, as Rodgers became the first QB in league history to throw for at least 4,000 yards in each of his first two seasons as a starter, and he narrowly missed a third straight 4,000-yard season in 2010 with 3,933 yards despite missing 1½ games due to a concussion. In 47 career regular-season starts, Rodgers has topped the 100 mark in passer rating 25 times, thrown for 300 yards or three touchdowns 14 times each, and posted 10 games with three TDs and no interceptions, the most in NFL history by a quarterback within three seasons of his first start."

"Clements has also tutored backup QB Matt Flynn, a seventh-round choice of the Packers in 2008."
