  1. Well one thing we agree on is that there is obvoiusly a great diference of opinion on Tressel among the fans.

Is it the right move, for Irsay to hire such a polarizing person as head coach?

Please don't get me wrong. I do understand what you're saying. I just think Tressel could be very valuable as a position coach for us.

If he is the next head coach, which I doubt (I have no way of knowing) then I guess we would just go with it.

  2. Or hows if...

Tressel becomes coach and we lose every game? Will all the Tressel lovers eat crow?

I have to be honest, I haven't read everything with the people supporting Tressel as our next head coach. I am sure there are a lot of Ohio State fans who are also Colts fans and I could see why they would want this to happen. I like Tom Clements and believe he could do a great job as an offensive coordinator or even head coach, but that doesn't mean I should eat crow if I am wrong.

Tressel, in my opinion is valuable as a position coach.

  3. I think Irsay likes letting things leak out a little bit. Frankly I think he's trying to show this a different than when Polian ran the team and that the Colts are going to be more up front about things. He went out of his way in his presser when he fired the Polians to say that they had to do a better job talking to the media.

Also in today's world it's extremely hard if not impossable to keep things in bad till you have the presser. The last presser shocker I can think of is when the Browns were going to introduce Phil Simms as their new QB and Simms didn't show up.

I agree. Irsay mentioned this in his press conference. I think he wants to interact as much as he can with Colts fans and in my opinion, part of the reason Polian is gone is because he had issues with the fans. I don't think Irsay takes us for granted. He knows how hard it can be in a small market.

  4. If Eli wins then we all have to hear about Eli being the "better Manning."

If Brady wins, people will argue he is hands down the best because of the 4 rings.

What a horrible season this truly has been.

I have always looked at Eli as being part of the family. He roots us on when the Giants are out so I root him on when we are out.

I would much rather have Eli win a second than Brady win a fourth.

  5. 1) Think before you post or read your post before you hit send. Don't react immediately. You can pop off in anger and regret it later.

I think we have all been guilty of this one before at one time (or two). ;)

Sometimes people try to bait you on a message board and then they want to turn around and report you for snapping back. I see that a lot on this board and others. The bad thing is that once a person gets banned for snapping back, the original instigator is busy piling it on. For years I have hesitated turning people in from the get go, but I have changed my stance on that now. I am hitting the report button as soon as someone even starts it from now on.

  6. He said on the CBS Pre-game show that Colts wanted to talk to Bengals OC Jay Gruden about the head coach vacancy but he declined the interview. Also the Colts wanted to talk to Giants DC Perry Fewell but he is in the NFC championship so they couldn't talk to him yet.

One thing about Casserly is he only talks about things he knows about and he also makes sure he keeps his sources happy by not saying too much. I have a lot of respect for him. When many reports come out from various places, I usually don't give it much credit and that is not the case with Casserly.

As far as Jay Gruden turning down the offer, there are several reasons why a person who has never been a head coach in the NFL before might do that. Maybe he doesn't think he is ready to be a head coach yet or maybe he just didn't feel like he was prepared to handle this enormous situation we have at hand.

  7. I Don't Think We Can Rule Out Tom Clements

He might not be the head coach, but it would not surprise me.

However I think he could be a strong candidate as an offensive coordinator. That is assuming Miami doesn't * him up first.

He has a great resume and the work he has done with average quarterbacks with getting the most out of them shows a true ability to coach players up.

He would be a great fit with (assuming) Andrew Luck coming aboard soon.

"Tom Clements, entering his 19th season in the coaching profession, is in his sixth year as Green Bay’s quarterbacks coach."

"A three-year starter at Notre Dame (1972-74) under Ara Parseghian, Clements led the Irish to a 29-5 record, including an unblemished national championship season in 1973. An All-American in 1974, he finished fourth in Heisman Trophy balloting when Archie Griffin earned the award. Clements received his degree in economics from Notre Dame in 1975."

"Inducted into the Canadian Football League’s Hall of Fame in 1994"

"Clements served under Lou Holtz as quarterbacks coach (1992-94) and wide receivers/assistant head coach (1995) at his alma mater, Notre Dame. While with the Fighting Irish, Clements coached eventual 1993 NFL Rookie of the Year QB Rick Mirer, and WR Derrick Mayes, the Packers’ second-round draft pick in 1996. In addition, he tutored QB Ron Powlus, Notre Dame’s career passing leader in attempts, completions, yardage and touchdowns at the time of his graduation."

"Mike Ditka gave Clements his first NFL coaching job, hiring him to coach the Saints’ quarterbacks (1997-99), a group that included Jake Delhomme and Kerry Collins."

"Clements served as Pittsburgh’s quarterbacks coach for three seasons (2001-03) under Bill Cowher. In 2002, he helped Tommy Maddox earn the Comeback Player of the Year award from The Associated Press, as Pittsburgh’s passing offense ranked seventh in the NFL, its highest finish since 1980 with Terry Bradshaw under center."

"Clements also worked with Pittsburgh’s Kordell Stewart (2001) and Kansas City’s Elvis Grbac (2000) during each quarterback’s best season, both culminating in Pro Bowl berths."

"Clements spent two seasons (2004-05) as offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills. In 2004, the Bills’ offense increased its scoring output by 152 and reduced its number of sacks allowed from 51 to 38, fewest by a Bills team since 1999."

"In Green Bay, Clements’ extensive tutelage of Aaron Rodgers has paid dividends, as Rodgers became the first QB in league history to throw for at least 4,000 yards in each of his first two seasons as a starter, and he narrowly missed a third straight 4,000-yard season in 2010 with 3,933 yards despite missing 1½ games due to a concussion. In 47 career regular-season starts, Rodgers has topped the 100 mark in passer rating 25 times, thrown for 300 yards or three touchdowns 14 times each, and posted 10 games with three TDs and no interceptions, the most in NFL history by a quarterback within three seasons of his first start."

"Clements has also tutored backup QB Matt Flynn, a seventh-round choice of the Packers in 2008."

  8. I want Mike Zimmer as much as the next person, BUT seriously, does anyone really have a good reason to hate on Tressel?

He lied for his players... they were getting tattoos for their memorabilia... that's it?!

Seriously, unless I am missing something, if you can write off a winning coach so quickly because of that, something is wrong.

I scratch my head over that one too. Not sure why he is attacked so much.

I believe he would be very valuable to us as a position coach.

  9. Give me a break. First off, isn't a discourse among fans exactly the purpose of a message board. Secondly, all I said that believing this is a sign of Manning's return is a stretch. Pretty much no harm in that.

Peyton does a commercial and that is the evidence that shows he is coming back to play? The commercial was funny as all of his are but reading anything else into it is kind of comical.

I never said it was evidence of anything. Seeing Peyton back doing commercials has everyone excited. It was great to see him in good spirits.

There was no sense in slamming a guy for feeling good about that. He was just asking a question.

A message board should be a place where fans can get together and have fun. Last I checked we weren't professional beat writers. Cut the guy some slack.

  10. How could the owner of a football team, who has been around football his whole life, do something as monumentally stupid as bring Tressel in as head coach. It seems like everyone knows it will be a bad move, but it still remains a strong possibility. It just makes me wonder sometimes how executives are able to make such bad, not to mention unpopular, decisions.

I think it is very possible that Tressel ends up on our staff as a position coach.
