Yeah, I get that, but I do not get drafting a Kicker in the 3rd, that is ludicrous
LUDICROUS! How about a trade back into the second to take a KICKER! He is no ordinary kicker my friend. I guess I am not the only one recognizes talent and value.

Last night coach hinted wee might not be done with the OL this draft. If Whitehair is there at the 2nd. pick I think they take him. Our line goes from so so to very good.
-
Could actually be Hunter Henry with the 2nd. pick. You never know.
-
I'm thinking Whitehair or Spriggs.
-
I doubt it but I wouldn't rule it out.

Honestly, this might be the worst idea I have read in the last year...drafting a kicker in the 3rd round...while you just re-signed your current kicker, who is a HOFer....WOW!!!!!
HOF players get cut all the time. They are not untouchable. When Adam loses it it could come without much warning. I am not saying we are going to do it. But, I would consider it. His contract is not guaranteed. Only his bonus. If he loses his job he would be another veteran cut on the final cuts just like other future HOF players. Happens every year.

Realistically I think the big defensive names people want will be gone by our pick. The most likely players I think are Whitehair, Spriggs, Seamalo, Henry, Dixon, Thuney, I am hoping it's a player who can start at RG and we fix the line once and for all. My wild card surprise pick for the third round is the kicker from Florida State. I know how wild it is but Adam is the oldest player in the league at 42. The kicker is highly rated as a mid round pick and projected to be a future pro bowl kicker.

Did anybody else notice how fast we turned in our pick? There was no hesitation. We got the player we wanted!

So,
Costanzo/Mewhort/Kelly/Reitz/Good
is that what we're thinking?
Yes, but I think they could still draft a guard.

YES! YES! YES!..........Love the pick!

If Elliot drops, I know he won't, it's him. If Elliot drops close enough we might trade up a few spots to get him. Most likely Kelly if he's there. If Kelly goes early I think Whitehair or Nkemdiche.

No way we draft a guard as our first pick.
Go defense (which wins championships) then Martin in round 2
They could move him to center. He has played all OL positions. He finished college playing tackle.

soooo. What happens if Kelly is not available at 18???
i think he'll be gone to Detroit
can we move to a defensive playmaker??
Can we???
If Kelly is gone go to Whitehair. OL 1st. Defense round 2.

I've seen a number of rumors that say the Detroit Lions want Kelly pretty bad. And they pick 2 spots in front of us at 16. We may end up having to pick that center elsewhere.
I have also seen him mocked to Arizona, Seattle, Houston, Tennessee, among others all in the 1st. round. Seems like a lot of experts think he is a center worth taking in the 1st. round. And Detroit would pick him earlier than us. Wouldn't that be a shock.

None for me thanks. It's the wrong combination. I don't want to give up a high pick and sign a mega deal. One or the other is fine by me but not both.
With Mo on board and Luck returning for a full year, and hopefully a strong draft, we should be drafting at the end of the draft again.

isnt his contract up after next season? i wouldnt trade for that
i guess he could sign a new one but there doesnt seem to be much incentive for him to sign with the colts now, rather than wait until he is a free agent
He was franchised this year. We would acquire him and then work a deal to sign him long term. Star players like Mo get their money eventually.

There are two strong OG's, Glasgow & Seumalo, with extensive experience at C who will probably be available in the 3rd & 4th round. Draft OT & OG in the first two rounds, fix the offense now. With protection, our O can average 30 points/game, which makes you a contender in every game.
With strong a strong defensive draft, we'll still pick up some quality talent in 3 or 4, 5 & 7
Don't forget Whitehair. He is the top rated guard and has played center as well. He played center in the senior bowl and scouts think his best positions are guard or center in the pros. He made all the line calls as a guard in his senior year. That is usually the job of the center.

What we have is a huge factor. Obviously Mo would be an enormous upgrade over what we have, but you might make the contract and giving away a first work if it was a glaring need. It's not, so I don't see stretching for the other factors.
Replace him with a pass rusher and I do it, because we badly need a pass rusher so I am willing to give up what I normally wouldn't.
I might be mistaken but I believe he had 12 sacks last year which is pretty good.

Mohammed Wilkerson? I just read that is what the Jets are asking for. The article didn't mention if it was this years or next years pick. Of course they would have to find a way to make the money work but If you were the GM would you do it?

I would trade the 18th pick for Zack Martin in a heartbeat. I doubt Payton Lynch is available at #18 though, and I doubt Dallas would make that trade.
I am not that high on Cameron Irving personally. I prefer Ryan Kelly. I would consider trading #18 to the Browns for Joel Bitonio and a draft pick though.
I like Bitonio as well. I couldn't think of his name when I typed the post. I would also trade the 18th for him and a pick.

Interestingly he's high on the names of guys who many on this forum don't seem to want at 18. Although it seems like many of these posters simply don't want any O-lineman at 18, which still baffles me.
Thanks for sharing this, it's interesting 2 days out before the draft.
I agree. They think it's a sin to take an OL at 18. Even if he is a plug and play starter and a potential all pro in an important position of need. Helping protect our most important player run an effective offense. It baffles me too.

Center is a vital position on the OL. If it was so easy a position to play we should have been able to find one by now. We tried with mid round picks and it didn't work. Teams do draft centers in the 1st round. Cameron Irving last year at 19 comes to mind. I can't see reaching for an ER in this weak ER class who would probably be a 3rd. down pass rusher. That's pretty poor value for a mid 1st. round pick. If you want to go defense I would rather take one of the top NT or DT who could start right away. That being said taking the top center, Kelly, or guard, Whitehair, makes a lot of sense and would improve the team more than an ER who most likely won't start.

Yes, that's my point. IF he's as good as they say.
Irving was playing behind Mack. They wanted to play him. This year he probably goes back to C.

This, by all accounts, is a very weak ER class. The top two or three guys will probably be gone with Spence being the lone exception. Taking an ER early is a reach for this class but teams will do it because they are desperate. Just like the two trades for the QBs. Both are not ready to start but the teams are desperate. If we take an ER at 18 he will probably be a situational 3rd. down pass rusher to start and will be a long shot to be a three down player. I would much rather pick an IOL who would be an immediate impact four down starter with all pro potential. If you want to help the pass rush we would be better off taking one of the NT or DT from a DL class that is loaded with high level talent and could also be a starter.

We could have had another starter in the OL in Whitehair. I was hoping for another starter this round period, like Mewhort. I think they see him as a corner but we will have to wait to hear what their plans are. What about Smith? Grigson says he had to hit this draft out of the park. I guess we will have to wait and see. I'm now expecting a RB in the 3rd.
