I have seen 1st. round grades on him. A couple of analysts see him as an instant starter and a future all pro.
-
The only RB I would take in the 1st round this year is Elliot. He is a consensus three down back who can also catch and block. Many analysts consider him a top ten or five pick. Polian considers him the best prospect in the draft! If he is there I would send the card right in. Regarding the list, I only recognize the first two. I don't know if they are great at blocking and catching the ball. I want us to draft a three down back . I expect us to draft at the end of the draft next year so I'm not sure. It's all speculation for next year. We've tried a RB in the later rounds and it's produced nothing. If we have a chance at Elliot it's a no brainer, you take him.
-
Assuming we don't get Mack then I would be very happy with Kelly. Everything I have read and having watched him at the combine say he would be a perfect fit. I would not pass him by and hoping on getting Martin in the 2nd. Martin could easily be gone by then. We really need to fix that center position.

I understand. If he does it I hope it's a trade that's good for us. If he falls past 10 he has to be at the top of the board. Probably most teams boards. But not all teams take BPA. I think if he falls to 18 he will take him. He did it with Dorsett for that exact reason BPA. He is just to good to pass on in a position of need.

Too not 2, there is a difference. I am not saying it's going to happen but I wouldn't rule it out. He traded a 1 for Trent who was the no. 3 overall pick behind Luck. The man makes trades. If he feels he is going to fall he might wait and do it later. He should have a good feel for how the draft should fall. I am all for waiting and giving up as little as possible. But depending how successful he is finding a starting OL in FA he might consider it. Many consider him the Best player in the draft. If you feel you can make a good trade you have to consider it.

I think they will inquire. They did the last time. They could get him and Harrison and that's it in FA.
-
Well, if they really consider him the best player in the draft and want him I can see them doing it. I know the board would explode but I don't think they care about our board. They have traded our 1st and 2nd. picks before. Next years No. 1 pick should be at the end anyway. They could also throw in a WR too. There are a lot of ways to package a trade. I'm not saying they will do it but I would not rule it out entirely. Nothing would surprise me with Grigson.

Can't see it. Not worth the risk. I thought I read where he didn't interview too well at the combine.
-
Mack, Harrison. If Mack does not opt out; Harrison, Hayward, Boone
-
I think they will trade Werner. He was a 1st. rd. pick playing out of position. He will go to a team playing a 4 3.
-
Ryan Kelly, center Alabama. My 1st choice trade up for Elliot.
-
If the RB doesn't grade out as a 1st. rd. talent you don't do it. You don't want to reach for any position. Last year I believe a couple of RB's went in the 1st. round. I think one was rookie of the year. This year I wouldn't be surprised if at least two go in the first round. Every year it's a different ballgame. Every year the talent pool changes. Some years the RB class is strong other years not so great. This year there is a RB, Elliot, who is a consensus top 10 pick and now some people are saying top 5. I think Bill knows talent a lot better than we do regardless of his age. I wish we could wait for 18 but he is getting even more attention now. I think we have to move up to get him. Of course that's up to Grigson and coach. If we stay at 18 it's probably Kelly or Whitehair or Conklin, which isn't a bad thing either. But, I would really love Elliot!

JPFolks, I meant see my recent post today. I posted earlier in the thread as well.

JPFolks, see my post on; WHAT IF we drafted ZEKE. ZEKE could be our 3rd. triplet. We need to try and get him. He's perfect for us. I agree with everything you said about him.
-
Bill Polian just said on NFL insiders that Elliot is the best player in the draft and is No.1 on his board. Compared him to Edge. He thinks he is a top 5 pick and could go No.1 or to Dallas at 4. If we can get a quality OL starter, center or guard, in FA then we can trade up with Tom Telesco and the Chargers and get him at No. 3. There is no way he falls to 18. I would"t be surprised if Polian has already talked to Irsay about him because of the comparison to Edge. Whichever OL we don't sign in FA we draft in a later round. In all probability we are going to sign a corner and a front seven D player in FA. Hopefully Irvin or Harrison. Grigson isn't afraid to trade. A back like Elliot is another surefire way to help Luck. I know not too many people on this board have a high value for RB's but the guys that do it for a living sure do. RB is a huge need for us. We haven't been able to fill it with our late round picks. I think it's time to be bold and pull the trigger and get our third triplet.

I said the same thing about Jacksonville on Feb22nd on this topic. They do have a ton of money to spend. Who knows what the offer will be but I can see them going after him hard. Wisneski was on a one year deal with them as a stopgap waiting for him to opt out.
-
Good luck Matt. That was one heck of an effort you gave last year. All Colt's fans will forever be grateful.

If we fill a couple of our needs in FA I don't think the board will freak out at all. There will always be some disagreement But the board freaking out, I doubt it. From what I am reading there are a lot of people being okay with it or are warming up to the idea. We probably won't have to worry. Some other team will probably take him before us. I just hope he doesn't go to another team in our division. That's all we need.
-
I am all for it! He has been my choice from the very beginning. My only concern is that someone will take him earlier. The common thought is you don't take a RB in the 1st round. Well he is no average RB. He is in the top ten of all the players in the whole draft! Believe me someone will take him and probably Henry too. That theory was blown up last year and will get blown up again this year. I just hope it's us.
-
I agree with you on Elliot. In fact I think he will be our pick. I hope so. I wouldn't be surprised if we moved up to get him if they succeed in filling a couple of holes in FA. He might not drop to 18. He is that good of a prospect. Read what Urban Meyer said about him at the combine. A special player.
-
Interesting. I don't think it's an accident like I said earlier. We now have two sure starters replacing players who could potentially not be with us next year. Changing just ahead of FA. Coincidence? Maybe, I guess we will find out soon.
-
I would not take the risk in the first three rounds, at least. We are drafting at 18 this year, not at the backend like we are used to. We can get an immediate starter in the first two rounds maybe three rounds. Mewhort was our second round pick when we drafted at the back of the draft and he is already a solid starter. WE don't want to lose this opportunity on a player who might never be the same again. Makes absolutely no sense to me. If we were drafting at the end of the draft, maybe. That means we are a playoff team with a strong roster who might want to take a flyer. Not this team who needs an infusion of good young talent now!
-
I believe they drafted a center with their 1st pick last year, Cameron Irving who was the top rated center last year, with the thought he would be Mack's replacement if he left. If Mack stays maybe they would be open to a trade? Something to consider. We traded a 2 for Vontae. In one of the mocks I saw a proposed trade of Moncrief to the Browns for LB, Mingo. Maybe we trade Moncrief for Irving or Mingo and turn Fleener into Moncrief's replacement? How is that for getting out of the box?

I like a lot of your ideas. But, I really don't think we can afford to sign all of those FA's. I would think maybe three new FA. Assuming we keep a TE and Freeman. Couldn't agree more on Elliot.
