  1. I don't think we have a deep defensive line at all for all the reasons mentioned before this post.  Jones is also not a sure thing to recover from his injury.  If anything I would rather trade a high pick in next years draft for Wilkerson and solidify the DL for many years to come.

That's probably the reason I'm so annoyed, we are drafting towards the future. I was expecting Clark to be ready to anchor the RT position this year, and I've learned a lot how he isn't ready for a pro-style offense. I originally defended the Green pick because I thought he had a Troy Palumalu ceiling if he figured it out for us, but seeing these picks in a clearer light, I wish we just took Cody Whitehair in the 2nd without the trade down. Luck is going to be halfway through his career before we have a competent team around him. RG is obviously still a problem, and we need to pray Kelly is a hit or this draft could be a bad one. Really getting a bad vibe from this draft suddenly.

I am not really getting a bad vibe from this draft but I wish we had drafted Whitehair as well instead of the trade down.  With  Kelly at C and Whitehair starting at RG would have been a great draft,  Reitz, Good and maybe Clark competing for RT to finish the OL line.  It still might work out but Whitehair was another plug and play player who will start for his new team, the Bears or Vikings, I believe.  No waiting on Green or Clark to develop in a year.  Hopefully they will contribute much sooner.  I was never a fan of project players or moving players to a different position like moving Werner.   With all the talent out there I wish we would forget that strategy.

That's exactly what I'm saying. The article claims that he will get more than 25M per year. Which... is outrageous.

If you can easily justify 24M just on Osweiler alone it's not to hard to extrapolate above 25M for Luck.  Yes it's outrageous and it's a big number but the NFL is crazy period.  It's like Monopoly money for them. In a few years it will be considered a bargain especially if Winston or Mariotta turn out to be anything close to Luck.  The owners are making a ton of money, the Cap keeps going up, it's nothing to get really worked up about.  If you want to keep one of the premier young star quarterbacks for your franchise you have to accept the fact that he will be paid ,what appears now to be, an outrageous contract,  In reality it will probably turn out to be a bargain in two or three years.

  4. Kevin Bowen of Colts.com does a biweekly mailbag column each week.  Todays mailbag had a question about who he thought would be the starting OL.  He thought the starters on the right side would be the incumbents Thornton and Reitz.  But he did say he was expecting "immense pressure" from Good and that he could be a starter week 1.  I thought it was a telling comment from a Colt writer.

Harrison has played C. He hasn't done anything at G. I'm not seeing how that makes him more versitile than Thorton. I'd say Thorton is a better ZBS fit and probable week 1 starter.

I just don't see starting 2 rookies starting side by side doing Luck any favors. Kelly better start at C and be very good. We took him at 18.

They cut the biggest drag on the team in Holmes. I'd guess the final spot comes down to Harrison and Blythe. I'd give Harrison the early advantage due to Blythe being PS eligable.

I have only seen Thornton play guard.  i have seen Harrison play guard besides center.  I went to the Cleveland game and Harrison played RG almost all game and I thought he did very well.  I remember commenting to my friends that I thought guard might be his best position.  I can see Blythe going to the PS but we will see.

  6. I think the people who wrote this article don't know Jim Irsay.  I believe he even franchised Peyton at least once.  He won't pay more than he has to,  just like any other owner in the NFL.  Yes he will be the highest paid player  but he is not going to do anything ridiculous.  He is not running a charitable foundation.  He is running a business.  I give him more credit than that.  He will not do anything to harm the franchise long term.

Not really, just a bad angle with a baggy shirt. This one is from yesterday's practice:

That's better.  I just checked out the pictures from practice as well.  He looks good and ready to go.

  8. They didn't draft four OL for nothing.  Thornton and Harrison have been given plenty of opportunities to prove they belong.   Coach Philbin had input in this draft and the likelihood all four make the roster is very high.   I think if they cut one it is Thornton because of his lack of versatility and if they cut two Harrison will join him.  I think they are hoping Good wins the RG spot and Clark wins the RT with Reitz in the wings if one of them isn't ready.  The extra pre season game really came at a good time for evaluation purposes.  I am really looking forward to seeing how our line shapes up.

If a guy like Wilkerson is there, and we have the cap space then Grigson will at least make the call.

I would trade for him this year.  From what I am reading they would take a 2nd, round pick and we could fit him in this year even with Luck's new contract.

  10. Bill Barnwell of ESPN just published an article on potential post draft trades that could still happen after the teams review their needs and situations.  There is a section on Mo Wilkerson and how the Jets were trying tp get a 1st. in this years draft.  With that scenario now gone he thinks they might have to settle for a 2nd. in next years draft.  The Jets are up against the wall with cap space and can barely fit his franchise tag in.   He mentions the Colts with enough space, 18.8M, to fit him and Luck in this year.  He also mentions the Bears, Saints and Bucs as possible landing spots but their situations don't appear as likely as the Colts.  I can see Grigson trading a 2nd. like he did for Vontae.  What a huge upgrade he would be.  I guess it's wait and see now.

  11. Chances are we will be drafting at the end of the round next year.  We will also have a ton of cap space as well.   Assuming he signs his one year franchise tag it might make more sense to trade for a proven young star like Mo Wilkerson.  Draft choices still need to prove they can play in the pros.  Mo certainly has.  Who knows if we sign Luck early maybe we can find a way to get him this year.  The Jets really need the cap space.  Wishful thinking on my part.

  12. 2013 was a disaster for us and from what I'm reading bad for the league as well.  There are a huge number of 1st. round draft choices that did not have their 5th. year option taken which pretty much says there were a miss.  Other 1st. rounders no longer on the team including our own Bjorn Werner.   Goes to show you how difficult the draft can be. " Sometimes you need a little Luck."
