Pagano is a likeable guy and all, but at the end of the day the question we need to ask ourselves is - is he the one to lead us to a Superbowl? Can you see it happening? Can you see a Pagano led team be solid and well-coached enough to be a true contender?

I'm sorry but I don't see it. I realize we have a ton of injuries, but even without them this team still looked HORRIBLY coached. Missed tackles galore, mental mistakes, penalties, deteriorating special teams... no attention to detail whatsoever. This team is simply not a well coached team.

Furthermore, the decision-makers in our front office need to be changed. They had 5 years of cheap(ish) Andrew Luck to build a team around him and this team is getting worse and worse. We were feasting on horrible AFC South for years and sneaking into the playoffs only to be annihilated by the first serious hurdle. This roster is in a horrendous shape and getting worse and worse. So many busts in the draft, so many busts in free agency... With the exception of Vontae and Henry Anderson, we need upgrade(or the rookies panning out) at every single position of the defense. The right side of the O-line is pretty bad too. Dwayne Allen got massively overpaid after not being able to finish a season healthy in the last 3 years.

We can keep lying to ourselves about how the injuries are what's preventing this team from being great, but while Grigson is making the decisions on draft day, in FA and in trades and Pagano is coaching this team, I honestly think we are wasting Luck's prime years.

I've never been one of those people who hopes for losses of their favorite team so the coach would be fired and I hate seeing the Colts like that but I have to be honest and say that after every bad performance, the thing that I find silver-lining in, is the hope that with every next soulless loss we are getting closer to getting new management and head coach.

I really don't want to see yet another Grigson draft and yet another Pagano coached Colts team. I don't want another wasted year. This team has been set back so much in the last several years that I don't think we can recover and be true contenders for at least 2 more years. We need a massive rebuild and overhaul of the whole defense and half of the offensive line + RB.

The only question you need to answer is - do you trust the current management with the task of building this team back up? What have we seen to give us ANY confidence that they can do it? ANY? AT ALL?

To me the answer is as clear as day.

I also don't get the attitude "I wanted Grigson and Pagano gone after last season, but I don't want them fired right now". What's so bad about admitting a mistake? What's bad about admiting it and correcting it EARLY, rather than waiting for another wasted year or two? They either are the right people to take this team to the next level or they aren't. I haven't seen anything in the last several years to hint that they can handle the responsibility of building a championship team.

Well it's very clear how you feel.  I'm one of those who don't feel that way.  I think Jim was right in keeping them together and giving them the opportunity to get back on track.  I think we have a better chance of turning it around with them then blowing it all up and completely starting over.  There is no one out there that is going to guarantee you success.  One of those ex coaches in the broadcast booth that hasn't coached in half a decade?  No thank you.  Another assistant from our team or another team looking for another HC job or first time HC job.  No thank you.  A college coach that is successful in his program and wants the new challenge of the NFL.  No thank you.  Saban or Harbargh to return and try it again.  Don't think that's going to happen soon.  Again no guarantees.  You know these owners aren't patient men. At least most of them aren't.   It looks like we had a great draft class this year. It appears we have fixed some of our problems.  Yes we still have some holes but so do many of the teams.  In fact I don't think we have a large number of major holes.  ER, RB, and a nasty linebacker that teams fear and have to account for.  That's it for me.  Jim is being patient so I am going to be.  After all he is a lot closer to this team than we are.  I think he knows football.  I think we have the key people in place that can make it happen.  I believe once we get these massive injuries behind us we are in for a great and exciting run in the playoffs.  I know I'm in the minority but that's my two cents for it's worth.

I'll stick up for the guy. He was playing hurt. But what about AC? He sucked today as well

I thought he played okay.   Made a great block on that TD run to the left.

I understand he was going against Von Miller, but he wasn't even getting a hand on him. Von just pushed him away like he's a lightweight.

    Because he's Von Miller.

  4. He's right about everything except, maybe losing to SD. If we lose to SD and Jacksonville then I would be concerned.  I think SD will be the game that starts to turn the season around.  They just lost Woodhead and I am expecting more starters back this week.  Players like Anderson,Cole,Robinson,Green ,Moncrief,Good,Gaethers. maybe Butler.

    Agreed.

I like this team, and I believe we will be a team to recon with soon. We are adding experience to our depth, and we just need to win enough games to stay in it. If we can get to a 3-3, 4-4, 5-4 mark then we are within striking distance. It is not over yet.

    Your damn right it's not!

  6. Great effort by coach Pagano and his staff.  On the road against the best defense in the league and score 20 points, 24 if Butler doesn't pull up lame.  Take the early lead.  Keep the game close with a chance to win it at the end.  All of that with a defense held together with rubber bands and bandaids.  Two offensive starters injured during the game, including a key receiver,  not to mention additional players lost on defense.  Throw in a couple of terrible calls by the officials and we still had a chance at the end.  Remarkable effort!  Remarkable job. When our players get healthy we are going on a great ride.

We have to respectfully disagree BOTT.  I know we have clashed several times on a few topics.  lol

I will just say that...we have changed offensive coordinators and the slow starts still persist...at least for now.

We have played under multiple quarterbacks (not by choice) and have seen that all have been prone to the slow starts as well.

The one constant in this is Chuck Pagano.  So in a way...I agree that "Dumb Chuck" is the biggest factor.  Pep was his scape goat but he is running out of them if things don't change quickly.

As far as flimsy resumes go...Chuck had no previous head coaching experience when hired by the Colts and Griggson had no GM experience.  So Pep's resume was par for the course for this organization of late.

I don't think previous HC experience guarantees you success.  The list is long on the number of HC's who have coached multiple teams with little success.  They were all assistants at one time.  I believe Don Shula was a linebackers coach before we made him our HC.  They don't all work out of course. Some will move to another team and find success, like Belicheck and Dungy.  Same goes for GM's.   No guarantees.  I read where if we fired Chuck a few teams would have had immediate interest.  I am not for rushing to judgement.  I would like to give them a chance with a healthy team.

Pagano is a nice guy who gets behind his players but he's not a coach that's going to bring you SB rings. The Colts need a change and it starts with Grigson and Pagano. We'll never host the Lombardi with these guys running the show.

I really wish Harbaugh came back to the NFL. He would be a perfect fit here in Indianapolis.

I don't know about that.  There aren't too many head coaches still coaching in the NFL with a SB ring.  The others are trying like hell to get one.  The players play hard for Pagano and he has a great QB.  I think he has a better chance than most.   We were one of the favorites last year before the Luck injury and we still won 8 games.  Pretty amazing considering all of the other injuries.

BTW if they lose this weekend, this discussion gets real.  If they're 1-3 or 0-4 returning from London, good chance Chud is head coach upon landing.

I don't think so.  0-2 is not the end of the world.  One of the losses would be non conference.  14 games is plenty of time to get back into it.  A new contract as well and the players like him and play hard for him.  Just can't see it.

  10. I think we will be alright.  Detroit is a non conference loss which helps.  With all of our injuries I thought a 2-2 start could happen.  If we keep getting players back and Jones as well by week 5 I think this team will be ready to make some real noise.  I wasn't happy with the loss, that's for sure, but as we know it's a long season and the players play hard for Chuck.  No team is going to win them all.

  11. I have a thought.  Maybe it's the field.  I think we should replace it during the bye week. Nothing to lose and it's only money.  Well, it is Jim's money and it will be replaced eventually.  So what the heck, let's do it early.  All in favor say aye!

  12. The Broncos have many issues, Semien is there QB, really a 3rd. stringer now a starter.  Our OL is better, we get a few more defensive starters back.  On offense the colts are stronger than last years team that were SB favorites.  Sure we're banged up a little on defense but Semien?  They have some video on him now.  I expect him to turn the ball over this week.   No way the defense turns in a performance like last week.  Colts 27-17

The colts traded back and drafted TJ Green.  They could have had Whitehair if they would have stayed where they were.  Not saying they should have done that, just correcting your point.

I thought we traded back and I thought we should have drafted him before the trade. Then when our pick came we took Green and Whitehair was still there.  We passed for Green and the Bears took him with the next pick.  We actually passed on him twice and I thought we could have had another starter with our second pick.  By taking Green that told me the other guard spot was going to Good.

There are quite a few things wrong with this paragraph.

1.)  You really have no idea if the Colts pursued Sitton or not.  They may have called and the agent said, nope he is looking at these teams.

2.) Cody Whitehair was drafted one spot ahead of TJ Green.  The Colts didn't pass on him unless you think they should have draft him instead of Kelly in the 1st round.

3.) To suggest the front office is not committed to building a quality line is assinine at best and shows a lack of understanding of the NFL.  Every team is committed to building a quality oline.  The reality is that it is very tough to do.

I don't know I think I am having problems with my memory.  I thought Whitehair was the next pick after we took Green.  I liked  him a lot and thought we should have picked him instead of Green.  He had won the LG job but they decided to grab Sitton and moved him to C.  I wouldn't be surprised if he starts there Sunday.  He is a great prospect.  I think our line will be fine.  I am looking forward to seeing Kelly and Good get better each game.

Personally I think Blythe is still around because he is versed in the blocking scheme. Philbin was an old Hawkeye and maybe its a bit personal too. But having a guy, even if he's a back up C, that knows the scheme inside and out could be a big deal. Plus as others point out, I dont think Harrison is really a C anymore hes going to be a platoon G.

I agree.  I think the backup C spot will soon be his if it isn't already.  I think they are done with Harrison as the backup C and want to move him to G.  I actually think he can play there and could fill the backup role there but he has to prove himself.  I hope he makes it.

Something about Sio Moore tells me he'll be playing.  Every practice picture I see he appears to be full go in terms of the reps.  I know Monachino has not mentioned his name, but maybe that's by design.

Could be. And I also think he's going to be ready.  Langford too.  He's flying under the radar but getting him back is a huge pickup for the defense.
