I'd keep Gore, Turbin, and Ridley.  Chud typically uses 3 runners or more in his scheme that perform different roles.  I see nothing wrong with Turbin for the power RB role.  Plus he's versatile enough to play fullback, great for short down and distance, blocks well and has pretty decent speed as we saw on his long TD run that got called back because of Dorsetts holding penalty. Ridley you would use for the other pass catching running back role, but he can certainly do more than that.  Ridley honestly can play the role of the lead running back if you need him to.  At least that was the case before he tore his ACL.  Haven't seen him run recently though so I have a few questions.  I'm fine with those 3.

I like Gore and Turbin and I could be okay with Ridley but I am hoping for a better option after final cuts.

  2. I know Prescott has played well in the preseason but I don't see Jerry going with a rookie until Romo returns.  Maybe we should call and offer up Tolzien and keep Morris as our backup.  You never know what Jerry will do.  Maybe we get a good player or pick or both.  Never hurts to make a call.

Not a lot out there veteran wise.   Maybe Pierre Thomas but he's old. Maybe some others will shake free when final roster cuts begin.  I'm still thinking one of those running backs from Seattle gets cut.  Don't know what else is available.

I believe KC is deep at RB and I believe I read where Hillman might be a casualty at Denver. Just a few possibilities that could be there.

Lions were pretty stacked though with good young backs between Ameer Abdullah, Zach Zenner, and Theo Riddick.  Really no room for Ridley.

Sounds about right.  But I do think other teams could have a similar problem.  We might be able to do better.  Doesn't hurt to bring him.  I just hope they are checking all of the other potential possibilities.

So...... if your Grigson, even though you've signed AC, do you think about trading for another CB?

Possibly,  I think it's his job to look at all of his options to make the team better.  Trades, released players, whatever.  Not just CB but any position.  I think we have an extra pick this year for Fleener.  I would bet he's always looking at rosters for potential acquisitions.

@Coffeedrinker:  good analysis.  Harrison did have one high snap. :)    Rick Venturi said a couple of times these past 2 weeks that Harrison would be a really good guard.  I agree with that.  Thoughts?

I actually think guard would be his best position.  I think he's battling Blyth for the backup center/guard spot.  If Blyth has a solid couple of preseason games to come I think he could win the spot.  Philbin drafted him so that really puts the pressure on Harrison and Thornton.  I could see them both being offered up for trade and or released.  Injuries on other teams could make them candidates for trade.  The next couple of weeks could provide a couple of surprise outcomes.

Still have 2 more games to be played, but from what I can see so far I think Okine and Maggitt will probably be the guys we see behind Cole and Mathis when the season starts.  Bates and Thompson I think will probably see the PS unless somebody makes the roster for special teams reasons only. Need to see a little bit more though because I felt the Ravens were getting rid of the ball quickly which kind of stymied the pass rush.

It's a real battle so far.  I kind of like Bates because he's playing well on ST's.  Great competition.

  8. I have to admit I too have been disappointed in Ferguson so far.  The Colts like him a lot and so far they have given him a lot of opportunities with poor results.  I think the pressure is really on him in the next game.   I like Turbin and Todman above Ferguson.  The 4th spot is a toss up.  In regards to our run game I think we are going to be primarily a run between the tackles team anyway.  The addition of Kelly and Good, both big men,  seems to bode well for that strategy.  One is a rookie the other a second year player switching positions.  They have only played the part of two preseason games but the potential is really there.  I also think Chuck has always preferred the power run game.  He tried to get it with TR and AB and now FG.  He might have the line to do it now.  We shall see.

Colts fan from Canandaigua here but admit I didnt go to the Ralph for this pre-season game. Too many knuckleheads at that place.

You are right about the fans.  I have had some bad experiences there.  We went because it was preseason and we thought it wouldn't be too bad.  No problems.  There was lots of security inside as well.  Maybe they have it under control now.  Not sure though.  I live in Farmington.  I meet up with Colts fans at the Distillary on Monroe Ave. for the games. We are there for most games.  We have our own section on the second floor. It's a long drive but we have a lot of fun.  Please stop buy if you get a chance.

  10. I was at the game with some Colts fans from Rochester.  Behind our bench ,8 rows up on the 25.  A good number of Colts fans in attendance.  Security was unbelievable.  Where we were huge bolders put in place before you walk up to the gates.  No vehicles could drive through. Huge police and armed presence. Armored vehicles at our entrance with camouflaged swat teams.  Wasn't expecting that.   A few observations.  Philbin never stops coaching.  The OL was in front of us and he never stopped coaching during the game, beginning to end.  I didn't watch the big TV  screen much but focused on the players I could see from our low seats.  I thought Reitz and AC could have played better but they were OK.  Our rookie OL played well.  All of them.  Surprised at how well Clark played, Haag looked solid as did Blyth in the last qtr.  Kelly and Good are big men.  Our line looked huge.  Harrison looked okay at center and guard.  We have some real good prospects on the OL.  Thornton better get back soon.  Green is a big safety and looks like a great athlete.  I felt better about him after seeing him play.  Bates looked good too and appeared to know his assignments.  Okine and Mcgill looked very good.  Ridgeway played well too.  My first impression on our draft class was very high. We could have some surprise cuts at the end.  I know it's only the first preseason game but the rookies collectively made a solid debut.

I don't know if Thornton is on thin ice or not.     I hope if Good wins the starting RG job,  that Thornton is kept as the back-up.       I'll be disappointed if he's not kept on the roster.

I think Thornton is a guy who can take his game to another level with Philbin......

Thornton better hurry up and get healthy. The rookies are Philbins picks.  His availability could be his downfall.  Every practice he misses hurts his chances.  Thornton has had plenty of chances to earn a spot.  Now the competition is much tougher.  We will see.

  12. I really think Thornton has to get back in the mix fast.  I know he's pencilled in as the starter and he's a good player when healthy but that's his problem.  He can't stay healthy.  The more playing time the rookies and other players receive over him the tougher it gets.  His lack of availability could be his downfall, and even a roster spot, if the rookies stand out in his absence.

  13. I am looking forward to seeing Haeg this preseason.  Howard likes Haeg and Robert likes Bates. Two rookies to keep an eye on .  I wouldn't underestimate Good though.  I think he could be our version of K. Osemele.  Not drafted high but became a force on the line and cashed in big last year in FA.

  14. No one has mentioned Harrison yet and he took most of the first teams reps at RG in the OTA's because of Thorntons injury.   He could be the wild card.  That said I think they both need to have a great camp and preseason.  They didn't draft all of these OL for nothing and they were Philbin's picks.  I could easily see us moving on  from one or both of them.  They both really have to be feeling the pressure right now.

You were right in that the best way to get him would have been to trade for him now. I still think it would have been too risky, with the injury, and probably too costly, with the high pick and the big contract.

Thanks, I thought it was the way to go but who knows.  Maybe the price was to high, maybe we were not interested and didn't even explore it.  I guess we have to hope our injuries heal up and our players can stay on the field.  Maybe Ridgeway really surprises.  Knowing Grigson he still might try to upgrade the roster before the regular season is under way.
