  1. I think the people who wrote this article don't know Jim Irsay.  I believe he even franchised Peyton at least once.  He won't pay more than he has to,  just like any other owner in the NFL.  Yes he will be the highest paid player  but he is not going to do anything ridiculous.  He is not running a charitable foundation.  He is running a business.  I give him more credit than that.  He will not do anything to harm the franchise long term.

Not really, just a bad angle with a baggy shirt. This one is from yesterday's practice:

That's better.  I just checked out the pictures from practice as well.  He looks good and ready to go.

  3. They didn't draft four OL for nothing.  Thornton and Harrison have been given plenty of opportunities to prove they belong.   Coach Philbin had input in this draft and the likelihood all four make the roster is very high.   I think if they cut one it is Thornton because of his lack of versatility and if they cut two Harrison will join him.  I think they are hoping Good wins the RG spot and Clark wins the RT with Reitz in the wings if one of them isn't ready.  The extra pre season game really came at a good time for evaluation purposes.  I am really looking forward to seeing how our line shapes up.

If a guy like Wilkerson is there, and we have the cap space then Grigson will at least make the call.

I would trade for him this year.  From what I am reading they would take a 2nd, round pick and we could fit him in this year even with Luck's new contract.

  5. Bill Barnwell of ESPN just published an article on potential post draft trades that could still happen after the teams review their needs and situations.  There is a section on Mo Wilkerson and how the Jets were trying tp get a 1st. in this years draft.  With that scenario now gone he thinks they might have to settle for a 2nd. in next years draft.  The Jets are up against the wall with cap space and can barely fit his franchise tag in.   He mentions the Colts with enough space, 18.8M, to fit him and Luck in this year.  He also mentions the Bears, Saints and Bucs as possible landing spots but their situations don't appear as likely as the Colts.  I can see Grigson trading a 2nd. like he did for Vontae.  What a huge upgrade he would be.  I guess it's wait and see now.

  6. Chances are we will be drafting at the end of the round next year.  We will also have a ton of cap space as well.   Assuming he signs his one year franchise tag it might make more sense to trade for a proven young star like Mo Wilkerson.  Draft choices still need to prove they can play in the pros.  Mo certainly has.  Who knows if we sign Luck early maybe we can find a way to get him this year.  The Jets really need the cap space.  Wishful thinking on my part.

  7. 2013 was a disaster for us and from what I'm reading bad for the league as well.  There are a huge number of 1st. round draft choices that did not have their 5th. year option taken which pretty much says there were a miss.  Other 1st. rounders no longer on the team including our own Bjorn Werner.   Goes to show you how difficult the draft can be. " Sometimes you need a little Luck."

He was an LG. Not a big deal to move him to RG... practically the same thing. However, putting him between a rookie Center and a rookie Tackle(or Good[rookie-ish]) may not be condusive to his production.

    What say you?

Maybe it helps Kelly and Good develop faster, I don't know.  They cut him to put Whitehair there a player we could have drafted.

  9. I couldn't understand it either for the reasons mentioned. If we didn't trade back so far, like a third of the draft, we still could have acquired an extra pick and Whitehair.  Of course maybe there wasn't another offer.  So close.  Hopefully it all works out.  By the way the Bears cut their starting LG Matt Slauson today and are putting Whitehair there.  That says a lot. Maybe we cut a center tomorrow.

Wilkerson also wants a very rich contract. He's worth it, but let's not forget that part.

He does want a rich contract and he certainly deserves it.  Next year we will have plenty of cap space to sign him to a long term deal.  The problem is getting him over here until then   I know they franchised tagged him.  Maybe it's a sign and trade and we figure a way to get him under the cap.  Maybe it doesn't happen until Andrew is signed and we know what we are dealing with.  Cole and Jones are potential cuts which could free up additional space.   Maybe they can trade him with the tag unsigned and we work out a deal where the cap hit is not so bad this year and starts hitting us hard in 2017.   I am not a cap guy so I am just talking here but I would like to see us find a way.

  11. After sleeping on it I have to admit I am very perplexed with rounds 2 and 3.  Drafting at that position we should have been able to find a starter in round 2.  Whitehair was there before the trade. If we hadn't traded so far back he would have been there again.  Not to mention other players being available.  Especially after coach talking about the importance of continuity in the OL.  Using Whitehair a an example our line could have been set for a decade.   I believe Gaethers was a 4th. round pick and it took him a year to start.  It looks like we are doing it again with our 2nd. pick.  I hope Clark is the surprise and is able claim a starting spot in camp.  We have an extra preseason game to find out.  If he does than I would say we did we great job.  I am all for developing players but drafting where we are I was hoping for at least one more starter like Mewhort in Rd.2.

Let me guess.... you have played soccer your whole life??   i will go as far as to say you thought about trying out to be the kicker for your high school team but you didnt do it.  be honest, how accurate am I?

I wish I could say you were accurate but you are not.  I went to a small high school with no football.  It was a fast growing district so it was added shortly after I graduated.  I am just worried about Adam.  He missed some extra points last year and a few field goals I thought he should have made.  I know everybody misses but I have to say at age 42 I now find myself holding my breath every time he approaches the ball.  Maybe it's time to get younger in the kicking game  before we experience our own nightmare of "wide right".

Just think we missed out on the opportunity to get the best center AND guard in the draft with Whitehair.  He was selected one pick in front of us and I'm just sick about it.  Having Kelly and Whitehair would have set the middle of the line for many years to come.

I think they gambled and lost.  I do like the Clark pick at #3.

    Joseph

I think you are absolutely right.  Coach talks about how important continuity is along the line.  With Whitehair we would have been set for a decade.  I like the Clark pick too.  Hopefully it all works out.  We will see.

Yeah, that certainly makes it a good pick

Well an NFL team thought he was worth trading into the 2nd. round for.  I was talking 3rd.  I take the kicking position very seriously.  You see kickers being turned over DURING the regular season all the time.  We have been very fortunate all these years.  Age catches up to all athletes and you don't know when.  With kickers the misses hit you in the face.  Too many wide rights then panic sets in. If there are other kickers in this years draft that are NFL prospects I hope we bring them in even if it means drafting one.
