In Baltimore he was strictly a run stopper and edge setter like Walden. With us I would expect him to be in the rotation with Cole and Mathis. I never said he was a better pass rusher. But I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be better since both of them eventually turned out to be busts. Upshaw is much better than either of those guys no matter which side he lines up on.

All four are good viable choices for the reasons mentioned. Demario Davis from the Jets would also be a good choice at ILB. I hope we find an OL in FA. If not it could be OL in rounds 1 & 2 and one needs to be a C. It's our biggest position of need. We need to fix it this year above all else.
-
I'm all in with Zeke in the 1st if there. But, I agree he will be long gone by then. If we don't sign an OL in FA then our 1st will be OL maybe 2nd. too. Two instant starters a C and RG, Irsay made it crystal clear to protect Andrew. They don't want to look at him every day without addressing the line. If they do address the OL in FA or trade then the picture changes. OL is our biggest need and this year we can find long term solutions.
-
Unless we sign an OL in free agency I think you should be expecting using our first rd. pick on one. Maybe the second as well. Irsay wants Luck protected, and rightfully so. Last year's scare is enough for me. Drafting this high we should get a couple of good defensive players in three and four. Now if we sign a OL player or two in FA that changes the picture.

Upshaw is a young and solid player. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be a better pass rusher than Newsome or Werner.
-
I am expecting Upshaw now that both Newsome and Werner are gone. They also might look at Demarius Davis from the Jets now that Freeman moved on.
-
I am expecting Geathers to be paired with Adams. I think we will probably draft a corner to compete with Smith. I am still expecting Upshaw with Werner and Newsome gone. Possibly? Demario Davis from the Jets now that Freeman is gone.

Okay now, all you GM's out there, take a deep breath and count to 10. You're acting like lemmings going off the cliff. One after another. Mass suicide. Have a good nights rest tonight and wake up tomorrow ready to have a great day. I bet tomorrow will be a better day. All is not lost. This is just the start of the new year.

He really was not happy here. He did not get the money he wanted and found out his market value. Instead of coming back to us for approximately the same offer he decided to move on. Wish him well. Grigson had the money right. Time to move on.

A bit of sour grapes from the TE who wasn't the "chosen" one. Tells me we made the right choice.
-
If he falls to 18 I would take Elliott in a heartbeat. Other than that we can wait until our 5th pick.

I don't think they can afford to cut DQ. Especially with the Freeman situation. He is solid overall but he can't cover. Maybe the new DC can find a way to get him out of coverage situations. Freeman can cover, that's why I'm surprised we are not trying harder to keep him. His leverage is shrinking so he might eventually realize it and come to a quick agreement. He is still going to make a lot of money.

I'm all in on Kelly with #18. Major need addressed in keeping with protect 12.

Great move. Thought this was coming and it makes a lot of sense. Maybe DQ too?
-
I would honestly like this signing and I was expecting it with our new DC being very familiar with him. He is much younger and knows his defense and , who knows, it might lead to some other LB moves.
-
I like your suggestion a lot. Even your pick. I think you should Elway an email.
-
No sense overpaying on the first day. Grigson has learned not to get caught up in the wild money on day one. I'm all for being patient. Langford was a later signing last year and so was Lowery. Grigson is doing a fine job,

I am new to the forum, but I have to agree. The amount of negativity surprises me. I know it's fun trying to play GM and guessing the moves you would make but they are in a much better position to try and build a super bowl team than any of us. I am not saying all of their moves turn out to be the right ones but what they are trying to do is not easy for anyone. The tone is more attacking than I was expecting. Critiquing is fun and interesting but attacking our front office is disappointing to me.

I have to say so far I like the Allen signing and the Cole restructuring. They both make a lot of sense. Allen is the better TE, the more complete player. We were not going to be able to afford one of the FA edge rushers and the top ones will be gone in the draft. We only have so much to spend in FA. Now I am only expecting to sign two new starters in FA, a OL and CB. Probably not big names but solid starters. I would not be surprised to see Jones or Jackson restructure as well.
-
This move makes a lot of sense to me at the reduced salary. He would have been cut if he didn't take it. I think losing Newsome had some influence. We only have so much to spend in FA. I think the big name guys are going to get big contracts and are beyond our reach. We would not be drafting one of the top edge rushers at 18. This gives us a solid veteran who might improve with our new DC's system. I would not be surprised to see Jones do the same thing, maybe Jackson as well. Now I am only expecting two FA signings that will produce two new starters, OL and CB.

I think Allen's the better player. With an improved OL he won't be asked to stay in and block as much. And he's a fighter and much tougher player. Chud will use him better than Pep. Grigson does a great job structuring contracts. I won't get too excited until I see the contract details. Freeman has the same agent. I would expect that deal soon.
-
I think we made the right choice in choosing Allen. He is the best overall TE on our team. I think our coaches feel that way. With an improved OL he won't be asked to block as much which will allow him to get into more pass patterns this year. Grigson has done a great job structuring contracts so I'm not going to get excited until I see the details. I hated watching Fleener go down so easily. He was going to be highly sought after in FA. I feel it was a win win for both parties.

Really, You're afraid of Osweiller, Bortles, and Mariotta and a few overpriced FA's? Not me. We will be a stronger team than last years team without all the overpriced FA's. And we will have better coaches ,a healthy Luck and a stronger OL when all is done. I really like this sensible approach. We will be fine.
