  1. Drew Brees now holds the NFL record for TD passes with 540, passing the 539 set by Peyton Manning.

If someone besides Peyton is going to be the record-holder, I'm glad it's Drew Brees.

Kind of fitting that he broke Peytons' record against the Colts.  It stings as a Colts fan, but I'm happy for the former Boilermaker.

Hmmm. This is a great question. Although I haven't seen every team in action, I will go on a limb and say.... I can't predict a winner, but teams representing may be.

    Baltimore Ravens

               vs

    San Francisco 49ers

    Here in Miami, 2020.

I'd like to see that rematch.  It would have a twist this time with the Ravens having the mobile QB instead of the 49ers.  (Jackson vs Kap)  But those might be the two best defenses in the NFL.

I don't know why, but I have a feeling Brady and Rodgers are going to ride their defenses to the SB and we're going to see the Pats vs Packers SB that people have been predicting for years.

I'd hate to see another Pats SB victory, but I can just feel it coming...  :wall:

i somewhat feel the same way, luck took the big money, he should have felt an obligation not to quit his job that he was very well paid for at the beginning of a season, past the draft, and leave his teammates and fans hanging. in my opinion he should have quit at the end of the last season to give us a chance to fill his position. he gave no consideration to his teammates or the fans who made him rich, or regard to the whole colts franchise . indy may lose its fan support and team because of the timing of him quitting his lucrative job. luck was a disgrace to the fans who paid him and his teammates by the timing of him quitting his job.

Maybe he did decide to retire at the end of last season, but consider this:  Would Ballard have been able to attract FAs with Brissett as his QB?  Maybe Ballard asked Luck to hold off on retirement so he could sign some good FAs first (Funchess, Houston, etc) under the guise that they would get to play with Luck.  Maybe Ballard, Reich, and Luck realized it might be best for the team if Luck waited until August to retire, even though he might have decided to do so last January.  :dunno:

And for what it's worth, Luck was going to give the money back, but Irsay insisted he keep it (just in case he decides to come back so the Colts still retain his rights).

You're free to assume the worst, but we don't know, and we probably never will.

    He quit.

Just curious, do you feel the same way about Barry Sanders?

He retired abruptly in July right before training camp, not at the end of the previous season.  So the Lions went through the offseason (draft, free agency) thinking he would play, the fans thought he was going to play, but he abruptly retires and on top of that flies to London.

Granted, this was before Twitter, so his retirement wasn't leaked to Adam Schefter and wasn't nearly as sloppy as Lucks retirement.  But do you feel like Sanders "quit" on the Lions?

No great way to make the stat.   Brady doesn't look great with any method.

Yeah, it's really a double-edged stat if you think about it.

For me to give Manning credit for 10 wins/season (which was the whole point of me making this thread), I have to admit that the team around him was so bad that they could only win 2 games without him.

On the flip side, the Pats fans that want to give Brady credit for all the Pats success have to admit that the team around him was so good they could win almost as many games without him.

It's a team game.  Maybe the most team-dependent game there is, so trying to credit one player for team success is a double-edged sword.  But Manning is the :goat:, and ain't no Pats fan gonna tell me different.  I'll use all the funny math and double-edged stats it takes to make that point.  haha

    3. Brett Favre 186-112 (1 SB win)

I thought about trying to decide how many wins/season you could credit to Favre, but it's the same dilemma as Montana: they were immediately followed by another HoFer (Young and Rodgers) so it's an apples to oranges comparison.  So Favre, Rodgers, Montana, and Young are all four probably worth around 7 wins/season like Elway and Luck.  We just don't have that one season where their team was led by an average QB like we do with Manning in 2011, Brady in 2008, and Luck in 2017.

    You might be right.

But seasons like this really make me appreciate what we had for years with Manning as our QB.

Sisterly love would be hugs and kisses, but brotherly love is headlocks and noogies, so maybe the name is apt.  haha

  10. Is it just me, or is this forum getting more toxic?

I'm spending less and less time here because it seems like a lot of fans are developing stronger and stronger negative opinions without really knowing what they're talking about (other than "we're losing games"...)

What happened to all the intelligent football conversations?!?  :(

The answer: Pretty much where we always were with Luck.

The fact that we would probably be in playoff-contention with Luck speaks to how great of a QB Luck is/was.

When Luck was hurt, or, not playing at all, the statements were "look how much Luck carries this roster"  as a support for a mob-ish narrative.

The fact that we have 50% more wins than the last time we were without Luck (and aren't even done with the season) speaks to how good of a supporting cast Brissett has around him.

    Yes, Luck was that good.

And yes, Ballard is doing that good of a job.

    What a fun thread.  :D

    That's funny.

"You'd think he would have found a way to cheat to make it fit" is the name of his ex-wifes' boat, ironically.

then just say hey guy you were right.

But what were you even right about?

It's not like you predicted 6 months in advance that Simmons was going to pancake Nelson.

And it's one play.  He's only played in 7 games, only has 14 tackles, and only 2 sacks.  We can agree that Simmons is "that guy" if he stays healthy, out of trouble, balls out, and becomes an All-Pro, but until then, he's just a good player and a good draft pick by the Titans.  And that's not enough to be in this thread beating your chest like King Kong.

I’ve always thought there is a certain mentality you need to be an NFL lifer ala Ronnie Lott cutting off part of his his finger.

Which he regrets now.  He's said if he could go back, he would have missed time and saved his finger.

And we've seen Andrew Luck do the same thing, just not as extreme as having part of his body cut off.  He played through some serious injuries when he probably should have sat out and let his body heal.

Only Andrew Luck knows the exact reasons and timing of when he truly decided to retire.  The rest of us can speculate, judge him, and call him names like @Coffeedrinker, but I respect what he did for this franchise and wish him the best.

Bitty everybody ON THIS FORUM brought up Simmons off the field crap remember? ESPN unprofessionally dropped a video when the young Simmons was drafted. Airing out Simmons dirty laundry on national TV. Remember?

Everyone said oh no, we don't want any part of XYZ on my team. Lol

I don't know why you do this.  You throw "everyone" in the same boat to gloat about you being right about something just because a small group of people disagreed with you about something on this forum.

For perspective, there are over 25,000 members of this forum.  Twenty five THOUSAND.  So if 10, 100, or even 1,000 people disagree with you in a thread, that's still a very small percentage of "everybody on this forum".

You're talking about the opinion of a very vocal minority of fans.  For all you know, the silent majority of us agree whole-heartedly with your opinion.

First off I'd like to thank everyone for one of the most interesting and intense seasons I've ever seen. We currently have two teams with 9-4 records,  two teams with 8-5 records,  and two teams with 7-6 records.

There is zero room for error for those 6 teams, as 4th place is still up in the air. Unfortunate season for the others.

Second I want to apologise for the lack of trophies this year.  I hope ESPN finds a way to bring them back.

But with the end of the season,  comes the end of season review and discussion about things we might want to change for next year.

    A few of thoughts I would like to present to the league;

    1. instituting one or two IR spots. Allowing us to stash our "O" designated players instead of dropping them in order to pick up a replacement.  Thoughts? If you want IR, how many slots, 1 or 2?

    2. Maintain two divisions,  or have one division and the top 4 records make the playoffs.  It didn't happen this season,  but in the past we have had a team not make the playoffs while a division winner with a worse record does.  Thoughts?

    3. Having 6 teams in playoffs with 1 and 2 seeds getting a bye.  This would require us reducing the season by one game,  and is more applicable in a league with one division. But can be instituted in a two division league. We use to have a 13 game season when the championship covered two weeks. So that's not new.

    4. Waiver wire. Continue with rotational order,  or change to Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB). For those unfamiliar with FAAB, you essentially get $100 in fake money,  for the season,  to blind bid on waiver pickups. You don't see what others are bidding,  so you just have to guess how much that player might go for and manage how much your willing to spend. When you run out of money,  you essentially have to bid $0 and hope nobody else picks up that player.  Gives you a better chance at getting waiver pickups, instead of relying on the randomness of waiver orders.

Finally,  this was suggested by Team Hulce, to make it a money league. Doesn't have to be expensive,  $5, $10, $20. Thoughts?

Any other suggestions that the league wants to propose?

Thanks again and look forward to discussing.

    Thanks for managing this league!

    1.  I'd like to have one IR spot.  We can make it just a "reserve" spot for injured players, not necessarily players actually on IR irl.

    2.  I can see the benefits of both scenarios, so I don't really care either way.

    3.  I like the idea of more teams making the playoffs.

    4.  I'm ok with the way it is.

    5.  I'd be willing to pay a small ante.  Then we'd have to decide how the winnings get distributed.  (League champ gets 100% vs rewards for 1st and 2nd, with 3rd getting their money back, etc.)

Thanks again, and Good Luck the rest of the season!
