I'm sorry,  but why does that make no sense?

If our top offensive need is running back,  and you can get a good running back in the 4th round,  then why can't we use our first four picks on defense?

I don't know if he realizes we have 3 4th round picks lol.

Myself, I think I'm going to be looking to trade back to 20th or so and grab some mo picks but I'm betting some are running to turn in the Solomon Thomas card.

I don't see why we would trade back honestly. I doubt we get another chance to pick 15th overall or better in the next several years. We have 3 4th round picks already. Do we have enough space on our roster to add 8 players from the draft? If we did trade down, I would trade to 19th or 20th. And then trade back up. Use our 3rd and 2 4th round picks. Possibly with Seattle or the Steelers at the end of the 1st. Could potentially get two true difference makers ready to play in year 1.

Essentially this. . . adding a playmaker on defense is going to improve the team far far more then adding another playmaker on offense.

The forum isn't about wanting to draft a RB. It is about how Gore is affected if we do. And its very possible we draft one in the 1st or 2nd. I'd much rather draft a CB and an ILB/OLB, but I'm not the GM and don't have control over the team.

We don't have the cowboys o line

100 percent agree with that. But if you watched him run, he made a lot of those plays on his own. He changed the whole dynamic of that team. Catching out of the backfield as well. Being the big Ohio State fan that I am, I'm 99% confident he will continue that kind of success. He is a beast. If he was coming out this year, I would be okay taking him. I was only using him as an example.

Like I have said, I want defense. I don't want to draft a running back in the 1st. But am curious to see if Ballard drafts one in the 1st or 2nd round, seeing how he says he will go BPA and as it is a need as well... how Gore's time with the Colts will be affected next season.

I think I've been more audacious than childish. But to your question, it's an obvious yes. And I think it's just as obvious a damn RB will not be best value to the Colts.

I don't want a RB either. And I said with the 1st or 2nd round pick if you actually read my initial post.

But Ezekiel Elliot was drafted by Dallas 4th overall. They didn't have a good defense. The cowboys went 12-4 and he probably should have been named rookie of the year. I'm sure they don't regret making that decision.

    This. . .

I believe Luck is still the only QB who went #1 overall to make the playoffs his rookie year.

Yeah. He was actually not only the first QB drafted No. 1 overall to make the playoffs, but the first to have a winning season!

Now it's a  "great" line??!! Who is silly now? They are not  ranked #1 so-not great.

If you think "great" means being ranked No. 1 overall. Understand this. Seattle wasn't ranked the number 1 defensive team last year. Are they not a great defense? The Patriots were ranked the No. 1 defensive team. Is their defense great? I wouldn't say it is at all.

Whether a team is No. 1 or No. 4 doesn't really matter. You have to look at the close stats that matter.

This is the most talented defensive line since Freeney, Mathis, and Simon. They have the potential to be ranked 15-18 in run defense.

I expect them to leap into the top 12 in run defense. We've improved the seven A LOT. Not only are we getting a beast at NT in Hankins, we are getting a healthy Anderson, Langford, and Geathers. Add Sheard, Simon, and a ILB in the draft. We will be sitting with potentially the biggest makeover defensively the Colts have ever had. At least that I remember.

One of the stranger things I've read here. But that's not saying much.

86.4% of the time yeah. 100% of the time yes when your defense sets franchise records for being trash.

Reddick/Foster is mocked to us way more than RBs now. Mock analysts figured out how much of a dumb pick a rb would be.

My comment of "no" is about as interesting as your amazing RB thread.

I didn't say everybody has them picked, but many of the mocks have had Cook or McCaffery going to us at No. 15. I was simply stating they aren't any better at predicting picks other than a very small handful of people who have inside sources.

I expect Ballard to grab a defensive player. I want Foster, Barnett, or Reddick if the top 2 corners are drafted before we pick.

Ultimately, my wants have no effect on what the team does. I will find a way to enjoy any player picked.

I will try to do the same. I think most of us agree that a running back will help our offense, but most of us also agree that a defensive player has a lot more potential to be the "difference" maker we desperately need.

Then don't comment on it.... I don't see why people have to be *. If I don't like something, I don't comment. Maybe you have a lot of built up anger. Therapy helps! Lol

i wouldnt want to take a pass rusher that isnt a clear starter over what we have now

im really not blown away by the edge rushers this year either outside of the top two or three that will be gone by our pick. i would rather get one of the top two ILBs than say the fourth or fifth edge rusher

if all of the above are gone, then i could live with somebody like takk but would rather we take the best player on the board and not just draft for need.

I think corner is the position to go if we can pull off one of the top 2 corners at number 15. I would be very happy with Derek Barnett as an edge rusher tho. Foster or Reddick are 2 great picks as well IMO.

If we draft a RB in round 1 he starts.  In fact no matter who we draft first should start.  I could also see us trading Gore during the draft to get another pick if we take a running back 1st. or possibly if we select one in the second rd. as well.  Seattle and NE are two teams that come to mind that would be candidates to trade for him.  Might as well try to get something for him since it would be his last year on our roster regardless.  Assuming we draft a RB in either of the first two rounds I think we trade him before the season starts if it's not done during the draft.

I wouldn't be opposed to that. But I really doubt that happens because I wouldn't be surprised if either of those teams draft a RB in the draft. If I was a GM, I would rather spend my pick on a young RB than a RB who has 1-2 years left.

And if our 1st round pick doesn't beat out the others in training camp, no he shouldn't start. Nor will he. Ballard has made it clear that he and Pagano have preached open competition to all of the players this year. I believe them. That's how you build a monster.

But I get what you are saying. I'd be disappointed if he didn't start. A 1st round player should almost always be ready to start other than a QB.

Why?  Are you saying it's silly that we'd take a RB at 1?  The there are a lot of professional analysts being silly.

A lot of analysts do have us projected to take a RB. But I truly do think that our mocks are probably just as accurate as their mock drafts are. They have no idea what is going to happen just as we don't. It isn't silly tho. It very well could happen. I personally doubt Ballard drafts one in round 1 tho. Unless Fournette dropped to our pick.

  15. 2 hours ago, LJpalmbeacher said:

If it's  Fournette, Cook or Mixon, they are the starters regardless what the depth chart or pags may say.

Mixon is a straight up baller, but it's hard for me to want a player like that after seeing his arrogance and him hit a woman like that. I don't see how Luck or the team would fare having someone like that.

It was a post asking what we think we would do with the new RB and gore with starting and carries. Hardly an over discussed topic

Thank you. I try to make sure my topics aren't the same as the others. I haven't seen anybody mention what would happen to Gore. And I think it's important because this very well could happen after the draft.

I really don't see Gore wanting to take a back seat. He would get 6-8 carries a game. He expects probably 15. I wonder if he'd retire, we would cut him, or would he just stick around for the final year of his contract.

i'm just gonna say this. If CB drafts a RB round 1 or 2 being the Defensive happy type person he is. i will take my dirty sock off my foot that day and stuff it in my mouth. No Joke (cough hope he goes defensive) :peek:

I almost want him to draft one just to see this!  haha

If it's someone like Cook or McCaffrey,  I believe they'd start.       Maybe not week 1,  but soon enough.

And Gore would become the complimentary running back.

That's what should happen but I believe Gore will asked to be released or retire if he doesn't start.

Yeah I went a little off topic but wanted to prove your point even more. Problem is, now days a lot of people don't have patience. Those who don't have patience just think a rookie QB can come in and win the SB within in his first 2 or 3 years. It doesn't work like that when you are the #1 pick because you get drafted by crap teams. Some QB's have done it early but they weren't #1 picks and went to teams that had already good to great defenses and good to great coaches like Brady with BB and their Defense + Adam, Ben walked right into a team that was solid on Defense, so did Wilson. If Luck doesn't win a SB by year 8 or at least reach one I will be a little worried then. I give it 3 more seasons = season 6, 7, then 8. It took Peyton 9 seasons to reach one and win.

To be honest, I really believe Peyton and the Colts underachieved. We had a three HOFers leading this teams in Bill Pollian, Tony Dungy, and Peyton Manning. We had Edge, Harrison, Wayne, Bob Sanders, Freeney and Mathis on the Edge, as well as Clark, Stokely, Brackett. Great kickers. And a heck of a QB coach/OC in Tom Moore. We should have had 3 SB's.

But you are 100% correct about it taking 4+ years to win a SB. When you draft a QB, you usually are going to have both, a terrible defense and a terrible offense. People use Russel Wilson as an example for it only taking 2 years to win a SB. But he was put in a great situation. Luck will get his turn.
