  1. In all honesty, this whole situation was handled extremely poorly by our organization.

This day was bound to come, and we decide to prepared for it 2 weeks before the season started?

Painter was never good, and our O-line has been on the down since 08.

But we have people in management who just won't eat crow.

I'm not one to tell anyone how to run a team, but really?

I love this team and organization, and will stand by it no matter what.

But I'm just disappointed in how this was handled. I mean how many surgical procedures did Manning under go these past 4yrs?

I mean did we ever think we just "might" need to prepare for something like this?

We're talking nerves, neck, and allegedly back problems here, this is serious.

If anyone could comeback and be effective after that, it's Manning, but the guy is 35. He's not getting any younger.

He just might comeback, not "feeling the same". Or maybe it might take a LONG time before he's himself again.

This new would be disappointing if true, but nonetheless as a fan, I'm prepared for it.

I think we can manage 8-8 with Collin's, but the chance of a home Superbowl just might not be there anymore.

I totally agree..... And I have cried for a "QUALITY" backup QB for going on 5 years now.

Oh well.... We shall see how it unfolds. But I do really like Collins in this spot.

By the way... "word on the street" is Peyton hurt himself by working too hard during the lockout. ?? And I can totally see this, a herniated disk needs to be babied... Gotta take it slow.

  2. From Jake Query, radio 1260 WNDE in Indianapolis:

What I said: A source I consider reliable told me he is out for the season. I do believe that the actual diagnosis is still being determined

Query says his source told him Manning had the procedure (past tense) last Sunday

Will Carroll of SI.com says he knows of no change in Manning's status, save that he is no longer with the team at the facility.

    Laura Callaway tweeted this:

ESPN's Adam Schefter: "One Colts official texted me this: 'We are aware of the rumors, but can't confirm rumors. That is all they are.'"

The chose of words is interesting. They cannot confirm the report, but they are not denying it. If the report is false, an upfront 'That is completely untrue' statement from the Colts ends the rumor. By not doing that, and by, essentially, implying there is some truth to them

    http://www.stampedeblue.com/2011/9/7/2410947/report-peyton-manning-out-for-entire-2011-season

    first comment to article

Jay Glazer just retweeted the report, which makes it look even more ominous

I have dealt with nerve issues in my lower back, knee, and lower foot. There is no timetable, and even if Peyton did have another "procedure" he could play in as few as 3 weeks "IF" the nerve comes back. Nerve regeneration can take up to 3 YEARS for full recover.

I personally feel Manning will be sat down for the season unless he really starts feeling good soon. And I am bracing myself for the ultimate kick in the nuts..... He "could" be done for good. Doubtful, but very much a possibility.

    Go Colts....

  3. Blue Shoe... I have had season tix since 84 also.. Did you seriously think the good times would last forever?

And by the way, Manning not playing is NOT a DEATH sentence. Wayne, Clark, and the rest of this O WILL show folks why this is a playoff staple.

HAVE FAITH. The talent on this team dwarfs the teams of the 80's and 90's.

  4. I feel horribly spoiled. I've only been a football fan in general for the past three years, so I haven't experienced what most of you have described as 'the dark days.' Seeing as I'm only twenty-one and a girl, I'm not ashamed of that fact.

I'm still cautiously optimistic about Peyton's health. I'm resigned that he'll miss a few games, but I'm not convinced this thing derails him, or the Colts. I'm not panicking yet.

    Right On... Optimism vs Negativism....

The Colts will be fine with Kerry..... as long as healthy.

  5. Pretty painful to watch all of this go down. If Peyton is out for an extended period of time then our chances of making the playoffs are slim to none, but the good news is we can get a head start on the draft.

Before my homerism kicks in and I start believing we can actually win every game, I want to have an objective view - If the bad years taught me anything it is that I will try to "reason and argue" why we can win every game even with the 1991 Colts (which I did).

I have a bad feeling that Peyton might not play all season. I hope I am wrong. If it is what's needed then we should just put him on IR so he can heal the way he needs to.

I won't make a prediction with Peyton, but without him here you go:

    Wk	Game Stadium Prediction
1 IND @ HOU Reliant Stadium LOSS
2 CLE @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium LOSS
3 PIT @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium LOSS
4 IND @ TB Raymond James Stadium LOSS
5 KC @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium LOSS
6 IND @ CIN Paul Brown Stadium WIN****
7 IND @ NO Superdome LOSS
8 IND @ TEN LP Field LOSS
9 ATL @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium LOSS
10 JAC @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium LOSS
    11
12 CAR @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium WIN****
13 IND @ NE Gillette Stadium LOSS
14 IND @ BAL M&T Bank Stadium LOSS
15 TEN @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium WIN****
16 HOU @ IND Lucas Oil Stadium LOSS
17 IND @ JAC EverBank Field LOSS

On the bright side if we do lose Peyton for the season then we will have some great draft picks plus the world will finally see how important Peyton really is to our team. No way we win double digits without Peyton like the Pats did without Brady.

BLEEDING BLUE ALL THE WAY THROUGH!!!

    GO COLTS!!!

Peyton Manning - Comeback Player of the Year in 2012!!!

Horrible post.. 2 year Colt fans need not apply. Really? Why?

    JMO

  6. I think its that we had Ugoh, Brown, Hughes, not to mention overpaying Sanders & Hayden & now gonzo on the bubble with in juries , all in a few short years that DRASTICLY hurt Colt Depth and SB chances thats the problem, picking on just hughes or brown as a wasted pick is leavening out a series of Colt issues

ITS A CUMULATIVE THING < NOT JUST 1 PICK

    Are you kidding us all?

The Colts find studs in late rounds every season. Do Brackett, Mathis, Bethea, Garcon, Collie, Bullett.... I guess they don't count?

Indy has whiffed on Brown and Hughes.... maybe? And the sky is falling in?

    Seriously?

  7. People are just fooling themselves by believing we have more talents than Collins ever had and he may reach certain level of success this season before Manning is back. Because:

    1. You are just ignoring the fact that Titans have a legit running offense that we have not had even closely in the past decade. He can connect to the receiving corp effectively because the running game set up the situations for the receivers to get open. Plus, Titans receivers are not indeed less talented than guys like Pierre Garcon. They have Britt. And Chris Johnson is better than the entire Colts RB corp together.

    2. No matter how good he is, even like Brees/Brady-good, it has been less than 20 days since he was brought into the team. Only 15min of preseason football and a couple of practices are not going to be sufficient for any QB to learn operating a new team fluently. Even Manning himself could not manage this in 2008 until one month into the seacon, considering he has been working with this team for 10 yrs.

The only things people can hope for are:

    1. Our running game becomes stronger. The OL is indeed stronger and has lots of potential, and the backs we hold besides Addai and Brown are more competitive than what we had before. However, the problem is still the limited time for them to glue, get experience, and find the rhythm.

    2. Our D stops the opponents from putting up points. The DL may be improved and we can hope they can stop the runs. While the DBs are in serious concerns. One good thing is the first 6 weeks we are facing less pass-happy teams except for the Texans. As far as we can stop the run things wont get too ugly.

In all, the major concern is the ability to score. It does not mean we will be blown out but we could be having many close losses. Only thanks to the schedule we are not facing the pass-happy elite teams until week7 and we might win 2 out of the 6 because the opponents could be struggling to score as well. Collins may improve after say 3 games and win us a game or 2. This is the reality.

I agree with much of what you say... however, the mentality of this team should change. BIG TIME..... And I think they will rise to the occasion.

  8. They are probably the key to the whole season. If they play well Collins is probably going to give us a chance to win games till Manning is back and once Manning is back if he has a ground game look out this could still be a Super Bowl Team.

If the line struggles Collins is going to struggle. He's not Manning and doesn't have the quick release or the same good footwork Manning has (frankly I think that is one of the most underrated parts of Maning's game is his pocket footwork).

Hopefully the line steps it up a notch and if they do I still think it's going to be a good season.

The defense isn't going to carry us, even without Manning the money and draft picks is still spent on offense, Wayne, Clark, Saturday, Gonzo, Brown, Addai, Castonzo for example. The defense just needs to get off the field on third down and get a few more turnovers than last season. I am not counting on them to win games for us though. Just because we lost Manning doesn't mean the defense got that much better so my expectations of them doesn't change IMO. They need to play better than last year clearly, they need to be about a middle of the pack or slightly better defense.

    Spot on....

Lets hope all hands are "healthy" and "on deck" this season.

  9. Had this much talent around him? I realize Peyton has made the majority of our offense, but with our system I'd say we're loaded with talent. As much as I want to see Peyton play, I honestly believe Collins can take us into the preseason if Peyton can't play. My only concern is his lack of mobility and slow release.

    Thoughts?

Ok, first off a friend of mine in Indy text'd me a week ago saying Manning was out for at "lesst" 3-5 weeks.. of course I blew it off. Well he was right.

Collins has as much talent right now as he has ever had around him. My only concerns the OL? They have to be able to run the ball. And Collins short training camp. But I really believe this team can win without Manning.

Peyton (IMO) made life real easy on the other players on the team. It is time for this core group of Colt defenders to step up and carry this team for while. And prove that this team is not all Peyton Manning.

    Go Colts.

  10. He's a big part of the "real" reason.

Dungy was a great coach, he never took Manning and the Colts to 14-0.

There would have been very few coaches that would have still got Manning and the Colts to the playoffs last year with all the injuries.

You are vastly "underselling" the leadership on this team from the players. This team has a "culture" of winning. Same as NE and Pitt. And that is very contagious...

  11. I have said it before and I will say it again even though few, if any, will agree. I think Caldwell will prove to be a better coach than Dungy. TO in the Jags game was absolutely the correct call. The TO in the Jets game was absolutely the wrong call. That does not negate the fact that he has already proven to be a very good coach and will get better with experience.

    "better than Dungy" ?? Really?

TD has had one losing season on his resume while turning around Tampa and Indy.

Slow your roll bro..... Caldwell is a fit replacement and has the team's respect. But he will never approach Dungy's status in the Pro Football world until he takes on a team without a Peyton.

Caldwell inherited a Cadillac and has done what he is "supposed" to do with it thus far.

  12. Do you guys think Colt.Com has regressed since last week or so? It hasn't even got the team roster updated correctly. Gee, what a poor job by the official Colts website.

Nothing new.. they never post a depth chart until half way through camp. Once the season starts things will get tidy.

  13. NFL Network's Jason LaConfora is reporting that former Colts corner Kelvin Hayden has signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta seems to be making a habit of signing DBs jettisoned by other teams. Yesterday, they agreed to terms with James Sanders, who was the New England Patriots starting safety last year.

    My link

With uncertainty still surrounding Jacob Lacey’s ability to step up at a full-time starter, and questions swirling around why Justin Tryon has not received a chance to take over for Lacey, this news takes away a potential safety blanket. If the Colts secondary is going to come together, it will have to do so with the guys already on the roster, or with a player who probably does not have any experience in the Colts system.

    My link

Fear not, this Saturday every team has to go from 80 man roster to 53. The Colts will find a corner.

  14. Thank you for pointing this out. I was beginning to think I was the only one that was paying attention. It seems like people have fell in love with Chick like many have for Foster. I appreciate the hustle they show but there are better players that bring more versatility to the team.

Foster is making this team.... Chick vs Hughes? I like Chick, but he is older and not getting paid what JH is. All things being equal RIGHT NOW Chick would make the team. But Hughes will be a player in time, only problem is it will take time. IMO, Jerry will be worth the wait.

You just don't get rich at the end of the first round of the draft all the time.

  15. could hughes play linebacker?

This.... Indy has got to get something out of this guy and he is NOT strong enuogh at he point of attack. This was his issue last season. He needs time to get buffed up in the upper body, but he could play LB. He runs like a deer.

Brown and Hughes can both play. They both just need to make it happen.

If Brown is healthy he will produce. And with Hughes... He has to get stronger, he is only 22 or 23 so there is no way in heck the Colts are cutting him.
