  1. He will but they aren't going to make the same mistake they did with Ugoh and just had him the job. He's going to have to earn it.

I would not be surprised if in the next year or two that Ben I, is the LT and Costanzo moves to RT.

I think the team drafted both with the vision of both playing T, and letting the best prepared play LT.

    Nice problem to have.

  2. Mallet's issue is going to be proving to everyone that he is more Dan Marino and less Ryan Leaf. Had he not had any "issues" pre draft he would have been the first QB taken... But, the Ryan Leaf comparisons scare folks.

  3. Justin Tuck is a five tech hybrid, though. That's what we need Jamal Anderson to be. Raheem Brock at 130%. That's not Nevis at all, especially if we're grooming him to be a nose tackle.

Justin Tuck is what ever he wants to be, he is a poor mans Reggie White. He can and "will" play anywhere the staff wants him to.

    Dude is a stud.

  4. I don't see Nevis as a nose tackle. Seems pretty clear that he's a three tech. Having him back up AJ is fine, but I think asking him to play the Booger role is problematic at this point. Maybe he grows into that role in a season or two.

Ijalana at tackle is an interesting development, and one that makes me wish we had kept CJ instead of Diem. That situation broke the way it did due to money, obviously, but I assumed after CJ left that Ijalana would play the flex linemen role and slide from guard to tackle as necessary. Seems now that he's being placed exclusively at tackle, which is fine as long as he picks it up. But it would be nice to have that flexibility in a veteran player.

Chap has said it appears to him "Linkenback" is the new Charlie...

  5. I seem to remember Bullitt doing pretty well at the LOS on the "infamous" 4th & 1 play against NE.

I don't know how your beloved Whitner could have done better.

That wasn't luck, it was preparation and instinct.

I have been waiting for someone to bring that "brilliant" .. "game saving" "tackle" ... to be mentioned, :coltslogo::rock:

  6. And for all of the people that say Brown/Hughes are busts, I have two words for you.....Steve Emtman.....He makes Hughes and Brown look like Pro Bowlers....

Wow... what a genius post :cheer:

Steve Emtman played all of 7 or 8 games for Indy before tearing his knee up. But in that small sample he returned an INT via Mariono 90+ yards... had 3 sacks, forced a fumble or two and was a STUD on the DL. He was the leader on that D until it ended as soon as it began.

And then the knee issues came along. It sucks... The Colts have had miserable luck with players and injury. More than most teams deal with.

But Emtman wss not a bust.

  7. I'm not saying that Polian is the worst ever, but answer 3 things.

In the last five years why?

    1. Why didn't Polian find a run stuffing DT?

    2. Why didn't Polian find a return man?

    3. Why didn't Polian find a Good LT? I know this year we drafted two tackles.

Just saying we could have traded up in a draft and solved one of these. Even return man we could have got with a pick in the first round.

Tony Ugoh? does he ring a bell? Indy tried and missed. It sucks, but it happens.

And DT.... seriously... Simon, Booger, Pitcock, Ed Johnson and whoever else I am forgetting. The Colts have tried to upgrade the DT position through the years... But it just has not worked out for whatever reason.

And return men.... Brad Pyatt, Devan Moore, and so on and so on.. they always get HURT.

This front office is NOT perfect, but they sign more UDFA's than any other team in the NFL... and that tells me they do their homework.

  8. First round pick like 8th overall picked over the likes of Suh and others I can't remember

Was a loudmouth on twitter and at front office that made the bills want to boot him out immediately, his pass coverage is putrid

He had alot of tackles, that was mostly due to the tick poor Run D of the bills (tick poor D in general)

Not a gamechanger, almost no team wanted him...

Idky you think there are only two kinds of safety, Quibtin Mikkell for one is an excellent example of a duel threat , he'll even Bethea had to be with Fransico, and Bethea did well

whitner, if signed would have only been maybe been a slight improvement to Buillit (who btw is actually pretty good in Pass coverage and DESCENT in run stopping) but his price tag was not worth it for us,

So reverse question why is Whitner so good in your eyes, you've seen him play? cause the accounts I gave to you were from posters at bills forums.

And tackles does not equal run stopper

As a huge OSU fan I can tell you Indy does not want DW. He is a very good against the run, but he is "Mike Doss bad" against the pass.

Mel is 10x the safety Donte is.

  9. give bullit this year. first year without sanders. gets all the starting reps in practice. should see a huge improvement

When Mel has been in the game he has played more than adequately. He is no Bob Sanders that is for sure but he is not the "worst starting safety in the NFL" as some genius thinks.

Mel has made plays since the day he set foot on the field for Indy.

Some you on this board really need to get a hobby.

  10. its not coyer guys its the personal open yall eyes

marlin's gone safty palying corner not good in man coverage

    hayden's gone (same as above)

bob's gone (suspect in pass coverage)

when u are shifting defence style it takes a couple years to get the right people

    for your defence

    powers is good man corner

    tryon same

    lacey ok

kevin thomas good bump an run corner

    rucker same as thomas

you can blitz if you dont have the people to cover

coyers first year powers and hayden played for the most part with lacey in when need

coyers second year powers and hayden hurt have to rely on back ups

now we have some more cover guys and two good safteys in coverage in bullitt and beatha

i think he can be more aggressive

with sims and conner, angerer and bracket speed we should be flying on d

First of all this team is NOT changing D style. Secondly jax, Hayden, and Sanders were all HUGE contributors to a Super Bowl champion. A team that .... by the way did not blitz much at all, and whose issue was run D. When they started stopping the run the team went on a serious roll.

I have no idea how the Colts D will turn out this year but I guarantee you if Jax, Hayden and Sanders all could have stayed healthy they would all still be here starting.

  11. my guess would be either mudd nor moore were too happy when caldwell was named HC instead of one of them

    Oh Good Lord.........

Mudd and Moore are both pushing 70!!!!!! Neither has ever had a inkling to become a head coach. Moore has turned down several offers through the years.

Could it be that salary demands were not met and parties decided to part ways amicably? Manning runs this O, Moore is not needed and has not been for several years.

Now Mudd was a valuable asset. But, I imagine he wanted payed for his services and the Colts declined. I am sure it has zero to do with Caldwell.

  12. Since he is a better run defender than a pass defender, I was hoping he would play DT from the start. I don't think we need any more DEs because I am hoping Chick makes the roster and I'm sure Hughes will too. The good thing is that he is versatile, he has experience at both DT and DE.

Dare we Colt fans utter the words... "versatility" and "depth" in the same sentence regarding he DL?

I am really stoked at the options this DL "apparently" has in fold.

Very exciting time for Indy fans.

  13. I personally wouldn't draft him in the 1st round let alone first overall. Have you seen Minnesota's OL? Peterson is gonna have more negative gains than positive this season. Does anyone else notice this?

Well Minny's OL has not been real good the last 2 years. But he gets the ball on the goal line and he can pop one from anywhere.

You would be a fool not to take AP as the first RB off the board.

He as helped me win my main keeper league 2 of the last 3 years. He is the most consistent RB in fantasy. And if McNabb has success throwing the ball AP will be fine.

Depending on the scoring format the only players I would consider over AP are Aaron Rodgers and Michael Vick. QB's are huge in my money league.

  14. Went to the Blue White scrimmage today in Anderson. Here is what I saw.

    * Freeney & Saturday sat out

    * Kevin Thomas hadn't practiced all week but was dressed today but did not get in the game.

    * Always amazed at the level of detail that gets covered - they practiced all kinds of different scenarios - like how to take a safety from punt formation. How to get the proper personnel on the field, how to freaking line up for the National Anthem

    * Starting D-line was Anderson, Johnson, Moala, and Mathis. On passing downs, Tommie Harris & Nevis were pass rush DT's.

    * 2nd string safeties were Afalava & Joe Lefeged. Lefeged looks like a real ahtlete

    * Link was LT with the first team although they moved players around

    * Lefeged was the primary punt return guy & Gilreath the KR

    * There will not be many kick returns with the new rule

    * Sims made plays. Was in on alot of the nickel defense

    * To my novice eye, Lacey did not have a good day

That is it for now. Shoot me any questions you have - will tell you what I saw

Who was seeing time at LB?

  15. Keep your head up, key on the waist down, Drive into the oppenent and wrap up with the legs driving till the ball carrier is down.

Simply.. heeh..e. (sometimes not so for a Colt)

  16. He traded Faulk to the NFC for less just so Faulk wouldn't throw it in his face every year. He took much less than the going rate for a hall of fame RB. Yes even then Marshall was thought of as one of the best backs in the game. Ever since Faulks first NFL game he was thought of as one of the best backs in the game.

Edgerrin was not thought of as a top 10 pick by anyone. Ricky Williams was the headliner coming out of college and Mike Ditka informed everyone in the league that he would give up his entire draft for the pick that got him Ricky. We could have made that deal and still drafted Edgerrin if we wanted to.

Bitter? Yeah. Faulk was my favorite player and obviously a hall of famer. He was Peyton to the Colts before Peyton.

That is not true at all. Faulk had plenty of critics in Indy. And many were not sad at all to see him go. Harbaugh was "Mr. Colt" during that time.

  17. The Colts took the best deal they could get for Faulk, the result should tell you how the rest of the league viewed him "at the time." Turns out the Rams got a great deal, at the right time, with the right coach, and oh yes.... Marshall missing the right block to let Trent Green get sacked and tear his knee up... paving the way for Kurt Warner.

The stars aligned perfectly for the Rams during that time.

If the rest of the league felt Faulk was the second coming of Walter Payton Indy would have either signed him or got a lot more for him.

I am happy how it turned out, James pre injury was a better back. Marshal got a ring and Indy eventually got one too so... It's all good.

  18. You also forgot Wooten and Royal(I think Royal was signed the year before). And you forgot that the Colts had a top 5 D for the first 6 or 8 games of the season that year until King decided to go back to drugs and Royal and Wooten got suspended for something they did on at a road game. And actually none of those players got big contracts.

But it's funny the selective memory most people have. Many Colts fans wanted Marshall gone and did want the Colts to redo his contract. He was injured during the 95 playoff run and in '98 most people felt he wasn't running hard enough especially when trying to convert a 1st down or near the goal line.

Then most people forgot all about Faulk when James burst onto the scene.

Finally an informed Colt fan... :applause:

  19. Because Polian deserves to be criticized for trading him. People who are blinded by Polian’s great accomplishments will give him a pass on this one, but I never will. It was a terrible decision to trade Faulk.

Polian stole this day from Colts fans whether you want to believe that or not. It's just a fact.

I totally disagree with this. Polian did what just about any other GM would have done. Faulk wanted payed a lot more than the Colts felt he was worth "at the time" And at the time, MF had nearly 1400 carries and 297 receptions in 5 years for 5' 10" RB. He had a lot miles on his body.

Hindsight is 20/20 nobody seen Faulk blowing up like he did for St Louls over the next 4 years. Faulks best YPC in Indy was 4.1, he averaged 5.4 his first 3 years in St Louls.

And maybe Polian just figured that by the time Indy got good Faulk would be on the decline and may have figured it would not be worth the signing.

Who knows? Just because Faulk blew up in St Louls with "the greatest show on turf" does not mean he would have had the same success in Indy.

  20. Yep. This is one of the most ridiculous things that has ever happened to a Colts fan.

Polian did not want to give Marshall the big bucks he was demanding and thus he was traded. The Rams made him happy and a SB winner.

Ironically in 95 when the Colts made the only significant playoff run of Faulk's time in Indy he was hurt during the entire playoff run. So in all reality all Faulk did in Indy was put up numbers for a bad team.

In St Louis he put up numbers for a very good team.
