  1. ...

Yeah, that's not our system. Our backs HAVE to be able to block. End of story.

It's important for all backs in the league to be able to make a block when needed to. But with us, it's pretty much a necessity. An elite passing game pretty much requires a blocking back in today's NFL.

True, but we have just not seen enough of Donald to know if he can or can't.

  2. So you saying everytime he's been in he's been horrid at blocking? a bit over the top. Never knew Dom as a good blocker either.. Tbh i could care less if brown could block as long as he can run that ball the colts will not be complaining cause ultimately thats a RB's job not blocking, you want blocking bring in a TE.

Brown did nothing but run the ball at UConn. Coming to the NFL and picking up the blitz for a RB is non an easy gig. Brown can do it, I just hope he stays healthy enough to do it.

  3. hes not nearly as good as peyton. Maybe a poor man's peyton.

Calling Matt Ryan the next Peyton Manning is like calling kobe the next michael jordan.

    100% false.

I actually think Kobe and MJ are very comparable. And if we compare supporting casts then Kobe may get the dome more with less award.

MJ played with some very talented players. That said, I do give MJ the edge... not by much though.

  4. Define help. Would Marvin Harrison, Bob Sanders, Dwight Freeney, E James, Dallas Clarke, Reggie Wayne, Tarrik Glenn, Jeff Saturday, Brandon Stokely, and the same coaching staff for his first 10 years be considered help for Peyton? Just curious what you mean by help.

Some will never truly appreciate what Manning has done until he is not doing it here any longer. Until then he is the most "taken for granted athlete" I have ever witnessed.

Manning is the same consistent QB with the same consistent numbers and "RECORD" regardless of how bad the D is, or how many injuries hamper the O.

In my mind he is the ONLY QB in the NFL that could do what he does with NO running game and D that always puts him behind.

Manning is a stud, and no other QB out there comes close. I just pray the Colts give this guy a power running game bofore it's over... Then we will truly see some massacres.

  5. StaticColt77....

yes I watch the yearly farce that is Indy Colt pre season football. Maybe I was a tad bit mean to the OP but the fact of the matter is. Half of the names we see making plays on the field in pre season. Won't make the team of 53. And we know that.

the first 2 pre season games are for "evaluation" of need areas. I get that.

Does this site need a "breakdown" of the "team" after pre season game #1?

Maybe I'm just crusty and old.... It's all good... :lombardi:

  6. Its not like the colts even prepared much for this game, and you forgot one person... Darren evans all his carries were good from what i could tell, he should definitely get more playing time....... aaaannnnnnndd he can block.

Right On..... Evans will make this team.

  7. Watching the Colts first preseason game on a local stream, I will try to be as fair and unbias as possible in my assessment of our first preseason game. There were some good things I saw and alot of things that need to be improved upon. Lets start with the good.

    1. Drake Nevis played well and was disruptive and in the backfield on quit a few plays and would have gotten a sack but AJ Feeley flipped the ball to a reciever.

    2. 1st team defense tackled well, and would have had a great goaline stop but due to passive play calling (which i will get to later) prevented that stop. Also on the first 2 defensive series AJ and Moala looked solid against the run.

    3. Offensive line held there blocks well off the line and got a good push. ( starting offensive lineman)

    4. Delone Cater, is just what the doctor ordered, he runs straight and runs hard. Showed a good burst and great cuts. Will contribute asap.

    The Bad....

    1. Defensive play calling, still is in question. Passive zones will be the death of us i tell you. In the redzone especially. Enough said

    2. 2nd team defensive back tackling. Needs to get better quick or alot more people will be out of a job than we think. Several missed tackles against the Rams 2nd and 3rd team offense. Poor tackling resulted in at least to extra possessions the Rams got from 3rd and 5 or more, that should have been stopped.

    3. Curtis Painter looked flustered on the first posession of the game overthrowing a reciever causing an interception. Painter has had time with the first team offense and still look uncertain at times where to go with the ball. But i promised not to be critical it was his first game and am not ready to give up on him as a backup. Dan O. didnt look to good either. He did hook up with Taj Smith on a long 44 Yd TD catch. But to his defense he doesnt really know the offense yet. I believe Dan O's throwing mechanics are better than Painters and doesnt get flustered in the pocket as easily and might take the back up Qb spot when he learns the offense. In my opinion Nate Davis was our best QB today. (i know he's facing the 3rd team defense and his stats weren't great)

I tried to be as fair and un bias in my breakdown. We have alot to work on, but we have the pieces to get it done :lombardi:

A lot of wasted effort........ the Colts SUCK every year in the pre season.

    like clockwork.......

  8. I doubt any colts fan "panic" cause they know the colts dont put too much into preseason games.... i wonder what will happen if the colts actually go 4-0

the last time they did I think the Colts received teh #1 pick in the draft... I may be wrong.

  9. colts d line getting pushed back 4-5 yards every play. STARTERS TOO johnson moala . corners/lb'ers playing soft with 5 yard cushions....easy snap and throws .....long drives......what a joke.

the D has played well for the most part. When your O coughs it up as the Colts have then ....

But you understand that don't you. And the fact it's preseason "COLT" football.

  10. He is a free agent. Played guard for the Steelers, and has a lot of girth to him. The Steelers have had a good run game, and he was obviously a big part of it. I'm not sold on our interior oline right now, so I think it would be smart to bring someone like him in. At the very least I would think he could beat out DeVan.

Anybody know if he's any good and worth looking into...not that our opinions matter anyway.

I am all for bringing in road graders..... But, I think the Colt plan is clear this season. Costanzo @ LT, ? , Saturday, Diem, and Ben Ijulana @ RT

I really think by week 4 this is what we will all see, and like a lot...... :lombardi:

  11. check the depth chart, right now Link is listed as the starter. It doesn't mean Link will be the starter all year but I am sure he's going to do everything he can to hold on to the job.

Yessss... I have seen the depth chart....

And if A Costanzo is not the Colts starting LT there will be a lot of disappointment in Colt land. We all know he was drafted to play that spot. And Polian backed up his investment by following it up with Ben I.

One of them will be playing LT.

  12. Well so far Mallet was the ONLY good rookie QB thus far in preseason #1. Dalton, Kaepernick were atrocious, Gabbart was ho-hum at best.

The issue with pre season games is "who are trying to win?" The Pats always do... The colts "never" do...

Yet year end year out.... they are equal, and the Colts have the superior record in recent years.

  13. Well, I honestly think Curtis Painter would play well on the Patriots. They are similar to the 49ers of the 90s, where you could use Young, Bono, Grbac, or anyone else and they would look like a Pro Bowler. The Patriots have a great system that allows a QB to look very good. Brian Hoyer looks outstanding.

What are you talking about? NE similar to SF of the 90'? The similarities start and end with HOF QB's Brady and Young. Bono and Grbac were "disappointments" in filling in for Young. That is why they were let go so fast, and a CFL QB named Garcia was brought in to take Young's place. New England has not won anything since 04, and not a playoff game since 07.

Yet Matt Painter could be the man their? Seriously... I get tired of the BBilechick love fest. What did he do in Cleveland?
