  1. We won't do anything to improve and then give up 120 YPG again.

Relax, this D would have been a top 10 unit if not for all the injuries last season. Indy's D will be fine as long as the Manning is healthy and scoring the ball.

And Stroud has been cut now by Jax, Buff, and NE... I think he may be done.

  2. To answer the topic, the Pats, along with the Eagles and perhaps some other teams study FA way in advance. They don;t take a wait and see approach as some teams do. They know who will probably be available and who will sign long in advance. This is all done behind the scenes.

Then when FA comes they can pull the trigger right away which you have to do these days or lose out.

Fat Al was not a FA, and NE seeks these "projects" because they have drafted so poorly the last few years.

I really can't believe all the slobbering over NE still.... they have not won anything since 04, and have not won a playoff game in 4 years. Their D the last 4 or 5 years has been "horrible" ... that is why NE went after Fat Al.

  3. Completely overrated and over paid.. The Colts regularly wore him out when he was with the Titans.

I agree, Fat Al got paid and I would bet the ranch he doesn't want to play anymore. just going through the motions to keep raking in what little cash is left owed to him.

I can't even imagine how much he weighs now.

  4. I agree with the OP. I just don't see the need for Manning to prove a point and "demand" what he should get by the union. He has broke the bank in all 3 of his previous contracts. I would think Peyton would like a little more help to get him over the hump to 2+ Super Bowl wins. It won't happen with he and Freeney sucking up nearly a third of the entire cap.

Oh well, looks like Peyton at 35 will be asked to carry Indy yet again.

    Go :coltslogo:

  5. lol! Too funny!

As to Peyton's bulging disks - I don't know the medical prognosis, but my husband has disk problems in his lower back and it's completely disabled him and NO ONE is hitting him day in and day out. This repeat injury has me very worried.

Yep, I have dealt with lower back disk issues for the last 7 years. And neck issues are considered more severe. There is simply no cure for a bad back or neck issue. Doctors can only do so much. The nerves in the spine do not heal or regenerate. The pain going down Peyton's arm will likely be around to some degree the rest of his career.

    I am worried also.

  6. I posted the other day the Video of Brandt discussing it this way ,it was one of the lost colt links from yesterday by the site , think i also had it on blog in direct coltts am checking , & yes

May be wrong as relistend, but with HUGE BONUS and prorating u definitely lower the 23 million franchise tag , somewhere ellse read can be by alot depending how bonus is distributed & still give him all the money to equate the huge contract, that dont have the link for

VIDEO Brandt on how u structure Manning's deal

    My link

IF Peyton stays healthy this will work, BUT.... I am seriously concerned about this neck issue 2-4 years down the road. Herniated and bulging disks just do not go away. If I am Jim Irsay I am very nervous about making a pro rated long term contract (signing bonus) with Manning. But as we all know, he simply has no other choice.... we don't have a Young or Rodgers sitting on the bench.

  7. I always find it funny that when players are ready for a contract fans come out of the wood work and say they should take pay cuts for the betterment of the team, but they will be the same fans that try and run that player out of town when their skill slips.

The NFL is a business first and foremost. As Peyton ages and if he slips in ability which he will the team will not be like oh Peyton for the years of service we are fine with how much you make. We did it to Marvin and we sure would do it to Peyton. The 49ers moved on from Montana and the Packers did it to Favre and they both were HOF QBs. Heck Joe is and was the best QB to play the game and the 49ers moved on to Young.

You throw in the fact that Peyton is a union guy and you are not going to see some big discount given to the Colts. Peyton is going to get paid big time. I have no problem with him not giving a big discount because I would do the same thing.

A couple of things... Joe and Brett were backed up by one HOFer and another soon to be HOF QB. That is certainly not the case here.

And would it be such a sacrifice for Peyton to say .... take 16M per instead of crippling Indy at 22-25M per? If only to save enough to bring back our own players? Peyton is the highest paid, and most marketable Pro Athlete of all the big 3 sports. Peyton could accept a contract of 5M per and still when all is said and done be the highest paid athlete in the NFL by far. or at least very close.

I just do not want Indy to hurt themselves by over paying for a 35 year old QB who has a disk issue in his NECK.

Spine issues do NOT go away, this is something that in all probability will end PM's career short.

  8. You say he's killing the team, but the team would be nothing without him in the first place, dude! I can't possibly be ticked at Manning. He has made this franchise what it is (the good parts anyway). I have a hunch that he's not sure that he wants to be here, and I really can't blame him. He deserves to have a handfull of super bowl rings, and it's not his fault that he doesn't. He's been getting all of this critisism over the years for not being able to win the big games, but it's not his fault. He's done everything possible to make things happen, but the Colts' ownership definitely hasn't! If you put Manning on the same team that Montana played for back in the 80s and 90s, he'd have six or seven rings! If he held a press conference today and publicly said, 'to heck with the Colts', I still wouldn't be mad at the dude. I'd totally understand where he's coming from. heck, he deserves $40 million a year, the cap just doesn't make it possible. The people I'm ticked at are the Irsays and Polian! Those guys can suck it!

Peyton has had some very poor playoff efforts when the D played more than well enough to win. Thus the reason PM has the reputation of being the best "regular season" QB ever.

I am honestly conflicted on whether Indy should give 25m per to a 35 year old QB with a bulging disk issue in his neck.

Glad I don't have to make the call.

  9. You do realize it takes two to tango, right? Obviously Polian wants to get a deal done now, but if Manning is not ready to sign then there is nothing Polian can do. Polian was ready to work on a deal last season, but Manning took the road of I will not discuss contracts during the season and was applauded. Also, with the lockout Polian and Manning could not discuss contracts so they are probably now just getting a chance to talk numbers.

Our front office's hands are tied a bit with Manning being franchised. They need to get a contract done with him before they can do much. You do not want to go out and re-sign Bullitt, Session, JA, CJ and Mookie and then find out you cannot afford the first year cap hit of Manning's contract.

Manning's new contract will dictate what we do the rest of free agency.

EXACTLY!!!!!! I love PM but I am starting to think he is interested in nothing BUT MONEY. I mean really, how much is enough? He has more money than GOD and going into his last contract he wants HIS cap strapped team to PAY HIM. Freeney is another who's salary is killing this team. He gets I think 19 million this season. He is a great player but that much? really? And players like Mathis, Bethea, Session, Bullet, and others (who are just as productive on the D end) have to fight tooth and nail to get "fair market value" from Indy.

If Peyton has to be the top paid player in the NFL then so be it. He IS worth it. But I would think at his late stage in his career he could be more interested in winning games. And if he is paid top dollar then Indy's flexibility is severely hampered.

Oh Well... really nothing new, Indy has paid it's stars handsomely for years now and made due with UDFA's and low round picks hitting it big. Lets hope it's more of the same old same old. (winning wise that is)

  10. Are you really going to take away arguably Manning's most reliable and best weapon in Wayne? Are you going to let a star DE walk, leaving us with an unknown guy in Hughes, a guy with CFL experience but nothing in the NFL in Chick and one star DE that teams can solely focus on to neutralize your pass rush?

    Yes...

Remember when Marv went down? Remember when Clark went down last season? The only way losing Wayne would hurt Indy is if Gonzo, Garcon, and Collie can't stay healthy.

And as far as Mathis goes, If he is going to demand Freeney money and a long term contract then I think there is nothing the Colts can do but let him go. If he is willing to sign for short years at reasonable money then there is a chance he will be here. He is talking holding out until he gets a new deal. I just don't see the Colts coughing up big bucks for a 31 year old undersized DE, who has a lot of tread on the tires.

After Manning gets paid how do the Colts keep them assuming they get huge contracts and not hurt the franchise long term financially?

Tough decisions but IMO I think the two will price themselves right out of Indy.

The Colts will be fine without them regardless of how soon it happens as long as Manning is in the game.

  11. Mathis is by far the most important of the two. Peyton makes due with whatever he is given, and WHEN Indy starts running the ball AGAIN with a purpose.... This O will be a terror, Reggie on the team or not.

Mathis is a very good player but Indy can survive without him also. At the end of this season I will not be shocked to see the Colts let them both walk. It is how they have operated for years. Indy and NE have proven that a team does not need to sign older stars to stay on top. I would give Mathis a 3 year deal MAX... Wayne, I would not even offer him more than a one year deal.

If both left via FA then I think Indy would get a couple very nice draft picks as compensation. And a lot of cheeze coming off the books.
