  1. Colts were mentioned as #10, along with SD, KC, Arizona, NYJ, Detroit, and St. Louis. Basically said the last spot is a crap shoot. Seahawks were first with pretty much the rest of the playoff teams in between.

i disagree with the chiefs (they will have a tougher schedule and haven't beat many of the better teams, 8-9 wins) and jets (qb problems, lucky to have 8 wins).

  2. That one is iffy.  If Rodgers can stay healthy, the Pack will win the division.  Trestman can develop QBs and has a QB-friendly system, so the Bears' offense should be fine.  If the Bears can fix their defense, they'll be contending for a wild card spot.  That leaves Detroit to compete with 2 or 3 NFC West teams, the Panthers/Saints, and the Bears for two wildcard spots

i will take detroit's talent over those teams.

  3. Last I checked, Polian was a media analyst, which means he would be part of the group called media people. To be part of the group called NFL people you need to be gainfully employed by the NFL or one of it's 32 teams.

    Just doing my civic duty......

so being one of the best gm's in nfl history means nothing because he now is retired and taking it easy as a media analyst. you don't lose knowledge.

  4. Most improved team I think will be the Texans.  If they can get a good head coach and a solid QB in the draft, they'll be set.  Their defense will have Cushing back, they have a decent/solid OL, they have good weapons in Andre, DeAndre, and Owen Daniels.  Hopefully Arian Foster can come back healthy.  They could push for a playoff spot and pull a big turnaround like our Colts and the Chiefs

    detroit should be there also.

  5. Did you read the 2nd link?

i read them both. i also read the story where a giants and jags official said they use pff. if they do, that's only two teams. far from 1/3 of nfl teams like they claim.

i still don't think teams scouts/gm's put a lot of weight on their ratings.

  6. If his rating was bad his agent wouldn't care but seeing as he's 2nd rated cover corner on a very well known site, you bet your butt his agent cares.

a lot of sites and so called experts are well known, but i am pretty sure gm's would have a good chuckle if a agent tries to use them in negotiations.

    but mel kiper said..........

  7. Not surprising to me.

However, if you had a great rating from PFF, and your agent was talking to a team that at least consults PFF's ratings (not saying PFF is the sole determining factor for any team, but numerous reports confirm that some teams use PFF in one measure or another), wouldn't you expect your agent to at least mention it?

By the way, I'm critical of PFF in many ways. But it has its place in the discussion.

it looks like the "1/3 of nfl teams use the service" comes from pff. i have a hard time believing something a web site says that would entice people to pay them when it is not confirmed by nfl teams. unless teams actually come out and say they are using the service, i'm not going to just believe a unsubstantiated claim by a web site.

i don't mind looking at their stats, but to say nfl teams use them is a huge stretch until proven. an agent, just like a web site, will use anything (true or not) to line their pockets.

  8. Hughes was showing signs of coming into his own as a pass rusher last year, so this "break out" isn't a total shocker, but what people fail to remember when saying this was a horrible trade for the Colts is that, it was all he could do....he would consistently get pushed out of a run play like a 100 pound DB.......he is a one trick pony....in this defense the only effective way he could have ever been utilized was as a pass rush specialist......and GOD forbid on a given passing down, the opponent did a delay or draw......Sheppards play has been back-up worthy, but he misses as much as he hits.....so maybe some may argue he is situational as well....so I view it as a rub, we needed situational LB'ing more than situational pass rushing......

most of the sack leaders have about the same tackle stats. would you call mathis a one trick pony? i wold much rather have a situational pass rusher than a a player that is only a back up, and not to a top linebacker. he just isn't very good. to me a situational player isn't someone that only plays when a player gets hurt.

  9. I was a fan of the Baltimore Colts before Indy even sniffed at the possibility of securing an NFL franchise.

The Baltimore Colts history ened when the rolled out of Baltimore in the middle of the night.  And any self respecting Indy Colts fan would agree.

you must be one of those bitter baltimore people. why don't you just become a raven fan like the others.

  10. Have the Jets ever had a good quarterback? Some teams always have great players in certain positions but not so much in others. We have always had great quarterbacks. Unitas, Jones and Manning. Luck will be getting there, and Harbaugh had a great couple of years. While the Jets have had great positions, but the quarterback wasn't and never has been one.

they won one of the most famus sb's with hall of fame qb joe namath.

if you think harbaugh was great, then there were some other "great" qb's for the jets.

  11.

The Colts have been informed that Jerrell Freeman's interception has been changed to a Mathis strip sack. He's at 17.5 sacks and 8 forced fumbles on the year.

The @Colts have been informed that Robert Mathis did indeed record a strip/sack Sunday. He now has 17.5 sacks and 8 forced fumbles in 2013

As expected, Elias changes one of #colts Jerrell Freeman's INTs at Kansas City to a sack/strip for Robert Mathis. Mathis with 17 1/2 sacks.

i was telling my brother in law, after seeing the replay, that the play should be changed to a strip sack.

  12. the pats are nothing close to the team that tormented the colts years ago. i also don't think denver is as good as people are making them out to be, they have had a good number of injuries and it usually seems that injured players seem to keep getting injured for whatever reason. the entire nfc east has problems. balt and pitt are on the downturn, clev is clev, and cinc is the most talented but a team without a top qb isn't going to keep me up at night.

i will wait to see how the off season goes, but i really like the colts chances the top record next year.

  13. when your first round draft picks are anthony gonzalez tony ugoh(we gave up a first round pick to get him) donald brown( one good season) jerry hughes and anthony canstanzo that leaves much to desire

gonzalez was a starter until he got hurt. ugoh was a starter for two years and he was a 2nd round pick. donald brown's problem has been injuries. hughes is starting now. costanzo is a 3 year starter. d you know someone that can predict injuries?

  14. Not really. Other GMs got players that actually helped their team in the first round. Maybe not the player that proved to be the best available, which is why it's not fair to go back and redraft with the benefit of hindsight.

However, Polian didn't get starters in the first round. He got players that wound up not helping our team very much, and those picks led to the roster having holes in various spots. From 2007 to 2010, his use of first rounders was bad. Anthony Gonzalez, Tony Ugoh (traded a first for him), Donald Brown and Jerry Hughes were not good picks for our team. The 2007 draft was bad through and through.

And what makes these failures worse is that he refused to supplement his drafting with free agency acquisitions that would fill some of the gaps. Instead, he plopped down more money on players that we should have been moving on from, in one way or another.

Keep in mind, I'm not a Polian basher. I've defended him plenty. But I don't think there's any question that his drafting and team management left a lot to be desired in later years. Put that on Chris if you want, doesn't really matter. The point is that the drafting wasn't good, and that falls on Bill Polian.

i don't think you will find a team that drafted at the bottom of the first round and consistently got impact players with those picks. is donald brown helping the team? costanzo? is it bp fault the colts gave up on hughes and he is helping another team? every gm misses in the draft, i just don't think he was as bad as most people think.

    2009 was a good draft.

i have said many times the colts spent too much money signing their players, against what most poster thought was the correct move by the colts.

  15. their players we could have taken in the bottom of the first round

and every other gm missed on those players also. why attack bp? his low first round picks weren't as bad as you are making them out to be.

i guess every other gm was terrible at the time because they didn't draft brady or montana with their first pick. every year there are players that all gm's miss with a higher pick. are they all bad? why pick on bp. his entire player evaluation record is as good as anyone.

  16. Why would you limit it to the first round? If the player was available when we picked, he qualifies.

This exercise has been done a thousand times, by the way. I don't see how anyone can argue that Polian's drafting didn't fall off and hurt the team in later years.

then you could say EVERY gm failed at the bottom of the first round those years, and probably almost every year.

people are cherry picking drafts where the colts consistently picked at the bottom. you would be very hard pressed to find a gm that has success drafting the "special" players that low. when he had high picks, he did get special players.

he drafted starters, and that is more than can be said about most gm's drafting at that position in the first round.
