  1. There defense blew chucks besides for the fact they created turnovers and were good at stopping the run from what I recalled??? Still bottom 12 in passing and scoring. So overall they were mediocre @ best. However their total offense was #1 that year and top 10 in rushing and very high in passing, leading the lead in scoring. Offense does win championships as well we've seen that with the Packers (injured defense), Saints mediocre defense, Colts mediocre defense, Rams bad defense and other teams.

Greenbay Packers defense is below average this year but they force alot of turnovers. So maybe the modo should be, "Defenses that force alot of turnovers win championships." HAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As it's said now its a QB driven league. Defenses still contribute to championships but it's just as much an overall team effort now.

Turnovers are a part of defense.....every time a play needed to be made it was made by the saints d. yards don't matter, only points. the saints d also scored points too from int returns and fumble recoveries. This year greenbay has a d that generates a lot of turnovers and gets stops when they need to. they also score a lot on d as well. The only game where they didn't play really well was the gaints game, but even in that game they caused two huge turnovers and scored a td. In the sb, greenbay's d scored the deciding td when they returned ben's int. they also prevented a game-winning drive by ben in the 4th quarter. When espn says the pats have the worst d or the packer's d is horrible, it's just not true, but what else would you expect from espn. No game was ever won by yardage, it's won by points, turnovers, and making key stops when you have to. So yes, defense does win championships.

  2. Thanks..

I think we're going to have Manning and a new rookie QB next year \\..and we'll still have Brown. Addai and Carter,,,

If Saturday does not retire (and if Manning's back, Jeff S. will be)..and all our receivers return..

I think its not at all unrealistic that we get back to the 24-28 points per game attack we had...

If Saturday retires..is Diem the heir apparent?

its pollack i think. i remember irsay saying something like that in a quote.

  3. Colts will probably get the snf game against the pats, a thanksgiving game against the lions, a mnf game against the chargers (if they finish last in the division), and another snf game vs the jets. maybe one more against a division rival like the texans.

  4. Pretty fair LT. Run blocking is very good. Still learning on pass blocking, but a definite upside from Johnson.

Kid has great natural ability. Gets better every game. He's a keeper.

With Reitz at LG, that's 650# pushing forward on run blocks, and both have quick feet.

With the two of them standing upright in pass blocking, that's a wall 6'7" high. Even Manning has to peek through that one.

    Man, they're big boys....

BIG know how the other o-linemen are playing and who we might need to get an upgrade on? Have not been able to see every snap this year.

  5. Sorry...I don't mean to go back and forth with you. I think that overall we both sort of agree. I would like to point out that when the Colts faced the Bears in the Superbowl, the Bears had a better defense and way better special teams. We had a better offense and we know how that Super Bowl ended. :D

dont get me wrong im all for offense, i just want a more solid d. I think im still dealing with the fact that our d cost us so many times when it mattered most. And the lack of turnovers some years......arrrgg. and yea our o was better than the bears d :)

  6. U cant just keep something bad because u dont know if the next thing will be better or worse. Polian has really screwed up the last several years. it's similar to andy reid. Reid just is not right for the eagles anymore so he has to go. Outside of the manning pick, very few picks have added to our tean to make us a contender. there have been some but not many. the team all this year has been manningless but has not been able to win with polian's other picks.

  7. I agree with you there. My point is that it takes more than just great D. The saying "Defense wins championships" is a cliche and overused and in my opinion, wrong. It usually takes a complete team to win.

we sort of agree and disagree. i guess i mean that every team that wins needs a great d. just because u have a great d doesnt mean u will win but without one u cant win.

  8. And where is he going to go that he can win big at? Washington, no. Miami, no. Tennessee, no. Who else is in the market for a high priced QB. All the real contenders already have there QB.

every team with a great qb has their qb making a lot of money. So any team that wanted to win would sign manning. also almost any team manning went to would be a contender. manning made this colts team into a contender all these years

  9. They were also a very dominant offense. Dominant offense+ Great Defense=Great TEAM. Thank you for making my point for me.

and the colts were a great offense in 04 and the pats in 07 and 10. i didnt say u couldnt win the sb with a great o. but u always need a great d come playoff time. And if u had a great o and great d then u should win obviously.

  10. I dont get that type of thinking at all, look at curtis painter he's been learning from peyton for more than 2 seasons and they are really good friends and look how he played... ppl are really over estimating the whole "student QB" thing, it doesnt work like that at all.. especially with peyton who likes things his way on offense and has no time to tutor ppl while trying to win games.

luck is better than painter already. luck also studies the game, painter was never doing that. im not saying peyton wouldbmentir luck but he would learn how to be an nfl qb. as a backup qb you watch the starter how he prepares, how he studies, and the back up can actually point out things to the starter. a backup will watch a specific defender and relay to the starter if he is always biting on a certain play. a-rod learned a ton just by watching farve, and that is the main reason he didnt struggle much when he became the starter.

  11. Smitto, It's not a defense that wins championships, just as much as it's not just the quarterback that wins championships. It takes a great TEAM to win. You can say for example, that the Ravens recently have had great defenses and a decent quarterback, but no Super Bowl victories. Same goes for the Jets and last years Niners. It's just a cliche that "defense wins Super Bowls." The Saints won because they were an offensive power house. Also, the year that the Colts won, we were an offensive team and the defense finally started playing well, making us a more complete TEAM.

No defense does win championships. turnovers count as defense. ur saints examplebis not correct because during the regular and postseason they forced a ton if key turnovers.

  12. Manning isn't going to be traded. If they pick up the option, then it will be even harder to trade him due to the salary cap ramifications that it would cause. If after 2 years, the new TV deals kick in and give the cap a huge increase, then we might be able to afford the 19 million trading him would create against the cap at that point, but that's still 19 million dollars we will not be using. Luck's trade value after sitting for two years won't be nearly has high as it is entering the draft.

luck's trade value should go up after two years. he will have learned qb from the goat and would have spent considerable time on learning how to read defenses.

  13. hopefully, they are angry enough to take it out on Baltimore..

They better win a game or they'll hear this for 8 months

As they should. Like you, i hope this lights a fire under them that can finally get them a win. I doubt it though. Even when i thought guys were playing the best games of their career (mathis and freeny against pit, garcon against tampa) we still couldn't win.

  14. Completely agree. The QB is what makes the show go. Look at the Steelers in the mid 90's to early 2000's. They had a great defense that got them to the playoffs and even the SB one year but they couldn't ever finish the job because of the QB position. Then when they got Rothlisberger they finally (as much as I hate the Steelers) started to win championships.

ben didn't really do much at all to win the sbs that first year. he got carried almost every game because of that defense. i will say that now they win with their defense and also because of ben, but that defense has been top-notch for many many years.

  15. It will be mathis and wayne as the number one priorities. Irsay said it himself. Garcon should be the number one priority though. He is the future, knows the system, has talent, has potential, and is still young. next should be mathis imo. then wayne. after those three, saturday should be brought back, at least a one year contract because he is still performing at a decent level, and provides invaluable leadership and can help tell the new o-line including any offensive lineman we bring in after this years draft.
