May not have been good in the mid 00's, but in recent history, it's been very good. Ryan, Stafford, Bradford and now Newton. So college has not produced many draft busts lately, I guess that's a good sign.
bradford is possibly on the way to being called a bust. This year there really isnt much difference between him and painter. Newton is still too early to call. He is not winning and while he put up amazing stats in the beginning he has really slowed down, but again its too early. Stafford and ryan look to good. So even recently i'd say its 50/50.

kind of surprised no one has Pat Angererr in for LB....I mean the kid is on beast mode this year and he did well last year too...He has potential to be the next Ray Lewis(maybe) or Urlacher.
pat is getting good but he still isnt a difference maker yet. Once he gets to the level where he can change a game then i think we can put him up there.

56 to 3. Its going to be brutal.
-
This'll be fun
QB - healthy Peyton...but if we go by right now, Rodgers
RB - Adrian Peterson
WR - Welker, Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Fitz
TE - Jimmy Graham, Gronkowski (as much as I can't stand Gronk, he is a very good player)
LT - Joe Thomas or Jake Long
LG - Mankins
C - Mangold
RG - Jahri Evans
RT - Oher
3-4 Defense
DE - Freeney, Jared Allen
DT - Ngata, Raji, Suh (I put Suh last because I don't need people calling my team dirty. If I was Schwartz, I would have ripped Suh a new one on Thursday, but I digress...)
LBs - Willis, Lewis, Ware, Clay Matthews
CB - Revis, Samuel, Woodson
SS - healthy Bob Sanders...again, going into real world it would be Polamalu
FS - Ed Reed...though I have no problem taking Bethea here too. Reed is better, but Bethea is still awesome
K - Janikowski
P - McAfee
KR/PR - Hester
OC - either Mike McCarthy or Sean Payton
DC - Since I'm running a 3-4, I would go with LeBeau or Nolan
HC - Belichick
GM - Polian or Ted Thompson
Honestly, if we could have a healthy Colts team for an entire regular season and playoffs, I would take them every Sunday
wow your list is my dream team too. I would just replace asante with peterson. I like his potential and with him and hester both returning kicks and punts.....it would be a deadly combo.

Peyton isnt going anywhere and i dont want him to but...
The best places for him are the jets n sf.
-
Colts will never trade manning. I question irsay and his sanity sometimes but i do believe in his loyalty to manning. Manning is the franchise n u cant just trade him away. I hope they dont take luck but if they do i really see luck sitting for 4 years. Peyton gets paid the majority of the contract in the next two years. It's not like luck can really do anything if they choose to sit him for four years.
-
They wanted to run Cover 2? Most of the time they play Tampa 2, which is a variation of Cover 2...
yea i meant tampa 2. That is what is so weird...the colts dont want change they want to just keep the same sysem. Instead of 90% tampa 2 i guess they want it 100%.
-
I think jahuars will stay in jax. Oak and the chargers are the most likely team to move to la.
-
Here's the thing... he plays with Manning, but he's still very good, maybe not elite. Curtis Painter is not a good example, they need to give him a mediocre QB like Alex Smith, and see how he does.
"maybe not elite." that's all i'm trying to say. But i want clark on my team. Like u said u would need him to be with a qb like smith in order to really tell. I hope that never happens to clark.
-
i disagree with oak, phi, hou, tb, bal, nyg. I really want to believe in the colts upset...ok we'll win!
-
But with that logic I can say Gronkowski is only good because of Brady, and Witten is only good because of Romo, and Gates is only good because of Rivers/Brees... you can't just say that, Clark is amazing at catching and blocking. He doesn't wear gloves during the game, and as a former receiver that's #edely hard.
With those other Tight ends we mentioned i would describe them as freaks. Gronkowski has a huge arm span and is just huge. He catches everything it seems. 15 years from now i think all those elite Tight ends will be much better statistically than clark. Of course we wont know for sure for years. Just from watching these guys on tv i would say they are better than clark and in a hypotheyical draft i would take them over clark. But like i said i still think clark is really good on his own without manning just not elite.

1) How does anyone know the health of PM?
With Polian saying this, I guess the "We can't afford Luck argument is out the window." .
How do any of you know if Peyton will play another down? Just because he gets surgery does not mean the chances of him coming back are 100%. As we have seen with Peyton, he might has to go back and get ANOTHER surgery. And who knows IF he'll come back playing like vintage Peyton. Many people here are making the assumption that Peyton will come back like normal. I'm not saying he won't or will, I'm just pointing out the fact that WE don't know until that day comes where we have to sign him, release him, or he retires. That's just reality.
And also, this could just be another scheme by Polian. It's chance he could be playing as if we are drafting Luck just to make the teams desperate and up the ante.
And I for one would like to draft Luck and also wouldn't mind if we traded the pick, so I'm on both sides of the argument. But please do not make an argument assuming something (Luck will dominate right out the gate, Peyton will come back 100%, etc.) when we as fans do not know this. And then to make it seem as your argument is right and everyone is stupid is wrong. *Rant Off*
dont try to sound rationale. you are right but that's not what fans do. In 15 years we can look back at this and know who was right and wrong. Hopefully tomorrow will shine light on the situation. I'm on the keep peyton side but if he is not healthy and cannot play ever again then i would be open to drafting luck. Till i know otherwise i'll keep my support behind peyton.

i like your list a lot. I got lazy with mine and stopped naming other positions. I think rivers is in that category right below elite with romo. Those two are very similar to me. I didnt list wayne n clark in part due to my disappointment. I think i would put wayne in elite but clark to me is a product of manning. I think clark is very good but not in the top 6 at his position. For running backs i think u have to include sproles because of all the versatility he brings in catching, running, and returning.
-
Maybe he won't be as stupid as Coyer and play Tampa 2 90% of the time... his gameplans will probably be better as he has more experience with the Colts and knows what works and what doesn't. Like I said, I have a feeling he'll do well.
the sad truth is that coyer was fired for wanting to blitz more n have exotic looks. Colts want to run more cover 2 and focus on the fundamentals. At least this is what i heard so far. I hope they do change things.

Who are your top players at each position that are in the nfl right now? Include players that are recovering health wise like Manning and Andre Johnsin.
My Elite players:

Wr:
Andre johnson, calvin johnson, welker, fitzgerald, jennings.

Te:
grahm, gronkowski, finley, gonzalez (old guy still has it), gates.

Patriots will run up the score like they always do. To be fair it's the only thing they're good at doing since spygate

Wow, now Tebow is superior to Manning in the intangebles department? Manning doesn't have leaderships skills and a will to win like Tebow does? I thought this thread was funny to begin with but we've taken it to a whole new level now. This is beyond rediculous.
agree 100%. Saying tebow has more intangibles than manning is utterly insane..
-
i think you are exactly right! i traveled to a few away games last season. i stayed in a hotel once with some "family" members of a couple of players. now although they were not employees of the colts organization, they said they had heard that he had been really having problems with numbness and pain all last season. they believed (atleast i think they were told) that it may have had an effect on (not all) but SOME of the interceptions peyton threw last year. this surgery, if successful, should significally alleviate those symptoms and bring him back to his preinjury form. i really dont think his age is going to have as much of a factor as some of you are saying. its like dallas clark said... peyton doesnt rely so much on arm strength, he just knows how to lead his receivers perfectly. i think its possible he could come back and play for 4 or 5 years(if healthy) at an extemely high level! i also think that because he has had to sit out this year, you will see a "man on a mission" next season. could be really exciting! he is just that type of guy. i wouldnt underestimate what he will still be capable of doing. but...hopefully the rest of the league will!!!
Couldn't agree more with you and doogan. The surgery should help Manning, career-saving is what i heard. Peyton's best talent was his ability to mentally understand the game and he still has that. I really do think Peyton will return next year and his play will be at a mvp level.
-
What did Coyer say?
That he wanted to incorporate blitzes and other exotic looks into the defense. The colts want to go back to strictly cover two and work on the fundamentals.
-
That defense was pretty terrible before he took over.
And tebow plays defense now? there's a difference between a good qb converting third downs and keeping his defense off the field and so the d now looks better and a qb who can't convert third downs except in the 4th whose defense is playing out of their minds. I do think Tebow has inspired his defense and that is a part of why they are better. Fox also installed a new system and it takes time for players to grow into it. there has to be offense that goes with that defense because at some point you are going to have to score more than 20 points to win the game.
-
Was Montanna impressive at Notre Dame? Was Brady impressive at Michigan? Aaron Rodgers was so good, that virtually every single team passed on him except the Packers. I am an SEC person so I saw Manning and he didn't zip that many passes either. Luck is as smart as Manning. I really believe he is. He is so much like him, I think he could run the same offense that we have now. I think reading defenses and making smart plays will be his calling card.
Montanna was impressive. Brady never got a real shot as he was the back-up qb. A-Rod was thought to be the first pick by many but SF went with Smith. I think luck can be good but i really just see him rolling out to the right and doing play action to his tight ends. If luck didn't have that running game, that o-line, or those tight ends i dont think anyone would be talking about him as the next elway.
-
Tebow tore up the NFL's minor league (SEC). Tebow has swept all of his rivals (AFCW) on the road this year. He has 8 touchdowns to 1 interception this year. A few 4th quarter comebacks.
and his team is scoring about 19 ppg when he starts. and there was the crazy win against oakland that inflates that statistic. Tebow hasn't played against a good offense except for one time, and in that game he got blown out and had turnovers. You need to score in this league to win. You need a d too in the playoffs which he has, but u also need to be able to score.
-
Once u have Peyton Manning it's better to have an auto pilot who does not disturb him. Once there is no Peyton the coach had better improve his game on his own.
Do you think a coach like Sean Payton can be a good combination with Manning? Can they be equally or more productive compared with the Payton-Brees combo?
If we had Sean Payton, wow, just wow. Peyton would have broken every passing record by now. We would have probably won that sb. So much could be better with that. And we'd be in better shape this year too with Payton. Payton would have had a say in the talent department too and we wouldn't have Painter or some of the other scrubs on our team.

I am so thankful that those in charge of the Colts franchise have a better grasp on reality and how a football team on the pro level is ran and are not running around like chicken little and acting like the above poster is. This whole idea that the success this franchise has had is only due to just 1 player is probably one of the funniest things I have ever read. It is just another case of where fans react with limited information and knowledge of the game.
Well to be honest, the only reason the franchise has had success is because of Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning isn't just one player, he's the greatest player of all time.
Polian has made horrible decisions over the last few years and Caldwell is not fit to be a head coach.
Elite Players At Each Position
in NFL General
Posted
your list is actually similar to mine and andy's. You just have less players for each position.
