  1. You make great points, but I think they could actually structure the bonus portion (Put some in future years) and the cap hit this year could actually "look" like 20M Other teams kick the can down the road on expenses (Ahem.... Our Govt, R and D) You could make it 'look' lower
  2. Leggette lost 2 inches from the season to Senior bowl He may show up to combine at 5’9” 🫣
  3. Respectfully, according to Spotrac (I think that was the one) the cost to sign Huff is believed to be around 15M He gets pressure at a rate that puts him in the top five DEs on the plays that he is in. He is a guy that offensive coordinators HAVE to account for on every play (Pass plays) If he was also a great run stopper, we would pay $25M vs $15M Think of it this way, when its 2nd and long or 3rd and long, or if the offense has a penalty on first down, you bring Huff in. He will make the QB pass quicker..... he is that good We take Grover off the field constantly..... We are going to pay him 10-12M to keep him. Its the same concept, but fills a desperately needed gap for the Colts. He is also young at 25. He MIGHT get better at run support. Another option is to pay the expected 22-25M for D Hunter. He is 30 years old (at Season start) He plays the run and pass very well. He is my first choice., but as I think about it, Ballard HATES to give out the enormous FA $$ (Its not in his wheel house, but who knows) This team is in DIRE need of a pass rush that it doesn't have today. If we dont address this year, we can all start to say.... "Wait till next year" Because THIS team is going to have a problem against the top teams in the South Central AND the AFC without it In my best Jim Mora Playoffs... Playoffs???????
  4. Thanks for writing this up. I truly think that CB trades back to late round 1, from 15 to get 1 or 2 additional 2nd round picks With these additional round 2 picks we could get a decent and possible year one starter at LB, TE, or, CB That new late first round pick could be well suited for AD Mitchell, or Brian Thomas.
  5. It didnt fall exactly the way I wanted, but I could live with this If you havent watched Sanders TE in from Texas, he is worth a watch 15. Jer'Zhan Newton DT Illinois 46. Ja'Tavion Sanders TE Texas 82. Calen Bullock S USC 117. Junior ColsonLB Michigan 149. Zak ZinterOG Michigan 192. Tommy EichenbergLB Ohio State
  6. He didnt light the world on fire in 2023, but he seems built to be a star He needs to have an amazing combine to be anything more than a mid round pick IMHO
  7. If we don’t grab a DE in FA, and no one offers a decent trade back I would probably take Latu He would have to pass physical for his neck
  8. I would say that our needed FS is NOT on the roster, and has to be addressed with an early pick or FA (There are some good ones in the draft that are better than our current roster IMHO Need One - Dynamic DE We are near the bottom on a very important stat. Pressures. This has to change. My hope is that we take ONE "splash" step in FA...... DE I dont see a cant miss DE, that can contribute at a high level this year. MAYBE Latu, but otherwise..... I hope we dont chance it, for this year Need Two - Playmaking FS Unless we address the back end, we will get strangled out by Houston and Jacksonville. If we truly fill Need One, the FS will be getting opportunities for interceptions Need one and Need two will feed off of each other, as the number of coverage sacks will increase This guy MIGHT be Cooper Dejean, who played CB this past year who seems like a Ballard kind of guy. He has amazing talent . Need Three - Field Stretching WR We saw 8 man box on many if not most plays last year. A dynamic field stretching WR, limits that, and opens up our strength with our OL..... running the ball Need Four - 3 Down LB We need a LB that can tackle and cover (We are one short today) Need Five - A Defensive Appropriate CB I estimate that we run a zone 90-95%, which makes a different player spec vs a press heavy focus A stud CB would be somewhat wasted in this defense, as it is today We actually have some scheme fit CBs on the roster with some promise Today on our current roster Ameer Speed is 6' 3" CB that ran a 4.33 40 Darrel Baker is a 6'1" CB That showed some promise Dallis Flowers is 6' 1" CB That showed some promise Jaylon Jones is 6' 2"" CB that showed some promise I think one of these young guys will step up for this year. I do think that they have to take a look at Cooper Dejean, who has the speed, size, and ball hawk ability to be a FS
  9. The world is crazy for football (soccer) I think it’s boring for me as well I have a short little span of attention….. That’s one of a long list of faults that I have (My wife maintains my list of faults in case I forget)
  10. Loved Eddy Murray and Ripken I lived in Cincy for a few years and my company had season tickets for the reds. I had to take customers out all the time I was so bored I was silently rooting for 3 and out for both teams. If I have an option of watching a baseball game or get a root canal I am left with a tough decision. They both are equally painful
  11. I could tell that you are an intelligent sort Johnny U and Mike Curtis made me a Colt fan (I had a Mike Curtis poster on my wall)
  12. Huff played part time and he had over double the amount of pressures that Paye had Pressures are HUGE, not just sacks. Pressures drive turnovers If I am CB, I am calling the agents of D Hunter and B Huff, and saying what will it take? I dont see a cant-miss rookie that can significantly increase pressure on the QB, ......this year I like Turner/Latu/Trice/Verse, and maybe the approach is to get one of them in round 1 AND get a FA DE For example, we could get Latu, and let him be our long down rusher, as he develops NFL strength If we picked up Hunter, who will be 30 this season, Latu could be the lead guy, 3 years from now, as Hunter starts to invariably decline at some point At the end of the day, this team has the high cost positions of LT and QB still on rookie contracts What we dont have is the 3rd high cost position covered - DEFENSIVE END We have a short window of time, and IF we want to win this year and next, and want to keep up with the Texans and Jags, we had better step up now, or we will be regulated to being 2nd or 3rd in our division When its time to pay our LT AND our QB, we will not have the options THEN
  13. I am the same When I was young, I would check the box scores to see how my favorite baseball players hit the previous night. I watched every game of my favorite team when they were on TV. (Orioles) I would watch the NBA with great interest as I loved the "BIG E" - Elvin Hayes. - (Bullets) And the championship was always interesting as great rivalries occurred with Lakers/Celtics Today..... I couldnt care less about MLB or NBA , WAY too many crybabies I dont need a political stand from a sports player...... "Just dribble and shut up" After visiting and doing business in 35 countries as a exec, I realized that this country, though flawed is the BEST thing the world has. There is a reason that so many people are trying to sneak into our country (I live in Texas and used to hunt along the Texas border for the ENORMOUS and NASTY wild boar...... Its a real problem) I walked out on football for about a year because of the political craziness. Currently my ONLY sport that I pay ANY attention to is NFL (Colts) and College Football (THE Ohio State of course) Its my LAST guilty pleasure.
  14. Eddie Jackson would be the best FS on this team if we grabbed him Why not ? He isnt the long term answer though
  15. I would agree with that We are probably going to pay Pittman IMHO, we wouldnt want to also pay another WR near that much... at the same time I would rather use our limited cash toward a DE (And maybe a FS)
  16. I think he is more of a suburban than a camaro Big and strong, take the kids to the beach, but wont be a dragster WE MUST get a DRAGSTER for this offense
  17. IMHO, I dont think we have a choice We need a strong WR2....Pittman is dependable and reliable..... and needed I WISH that he was explosive, but thats not his game AND...... today we are down a WR1, Not signing Pittman to a contract would mean we would need TWO WRs The cost keeps rising on the players, we could tag him, but we are kicking the can down the road We could play games with the salary cap with bonus, so his annual hit could be 18M or so in year 1 THEN we wait to see what we look like in 4 years, if we want to give him a 3rd contract
  18. If we go the route with drafting Jackson Powers, he could actually play guard for 3 years or so until Kelly steps down I dont wont to lose Kelly, he is playing lights out I could see Ballard doing it, but I hope he doesnt. There are other Centers in this draft that we could get in round 3 or 4 This team needs some difference makers, and I truly hope that we grab some positions of dire need first
