History tells us that it’s very likely for over half of our draft picks not to have a visit.

I will never forget Donald Brown’s answer after he was drafted by us. He was asked if the Colts had spoken to him before the draft. He said that he hadn’t talked to them at all, and didn’t even know the Colts were interested in him.

I think the prospects understand the gamesmanship surrounding the draft.

I think that is one example why our drafting started to turn bad around that time. Not having a private visit, I can understand but not talking to the kid at all? Do your homework.

  2. Looks solid. Cowboys haven't drafted interior dlineman high for ages but lot of mocks have them taking one and it could change. However, I don't see NE taking interior offensive lineman in the 1st. They haven't valued those positions so highly in the past and they have very solid trio there already in Thuney-Andrews-Mason. Other than that, no major disagreements with any pick. Especially like the Colts pick!

The loss of Dion Lewis and Amendola will affect your passing game more than the loss of Cooks, given the style of your offense, IMO. Only time will tell if Burkhead and White can pick up the slack for an entire season underneath.

This.. Dion Lewis is the most talented of those 3, even though he's had injury issues. Amendola never had great raw production over the course of the year but has made huge clutch plays over the past 5 years and especially in the postseason.

I don't think Shanahan would make a run at Howard. He is similar to Hyde...who they let walk.

Look at last season, SF drafted Joe Williams (5'11" 210 lbs, 4.41 40 yard dash) and signed UDFA Matt Breida (5'11" 190 lbs 4.37 40 yard dash)...who got a lot of work in the latter part of the season. I think Shanahan has a type of RB. If he wants a change of pace, he has Juszczyk.

Shanahan loves speed which Howard doesn't have but Howard is a great fit in outside zone running teams which Shanahan prefers and in which Howard had success with the Bears. He has better vision and patience than Hyde who wasn't ideal fit.

And you wonder why I don't like the trade?

Um.. yes? He was used as a deep threat, Brady took a ton of hits last year, lost their LT, defense is in desperate need of talent and their offense has produced very well in the past despite losing/missing key players due to injuries and they weren't going to pay him market value deal.

42 first downs out of 65 catches showed he wasn't being used down field.

He was tied for 6th highest average depth of yards per target among all receivers in the league last year, per nextgenstats (min. 43 targets).

Yeah, true but I still don't like the trade. Just think, the Pats have Dorsett to take his place.

Meh, they haven't had a good deep threat for most of this decade. Just not needed in their offense. Their WR depth isn't looking too good though as they have two guys coming off season which they lost due to injuries, Hogan and then Dorsett. And they haven't been good at drafting receivers. But 1st round pick and cap savings are pretty nice for 1 year of Cooks. LT is their biggest concern.

    Cooks- Last season. -65 catches-1,082 yds-16.6 avg per catch-7 TDs-18 catches over 20 yds- 42 first downs.

That's with Gronk, Edelman and Hogan too.

Nah, I still don't think this was a good trade.

    Edelman was injured last year.

A good tackler does not have to be 6 ft. or taller no matter what position he plays.

Some of the best CBs in the league have not been that tall.

    Malcolm Jenkins 6 ft

    Vontae Davis 5-11

    Darious Butler 5-11

    Alphoso Smith 5-9

This is a couple of examples of my point. It's not the size, it's the talent of the player.

I might be missing a joke but Alphonso Smith was a major, major bust.

FTR, I agree that size alone doesn't mean great tackler. I've bigger issue with taking Ward at #12 because of the scheme we are going to use. If one is going to play mostly zone, corner shouldn't be taken that high.

@LJpalmbeacher2 ... I am not sure what you are confused about by this post. You say Grigsons draft blew Ballard's out of the water. I say you are crazy and basing it off of solely their rookie years, when all but 2 of 2012 busted completely for this organization. I want to know if you will stand by that comment in 4 years when last years draft blows Grigsons entire drafting career here out of the water in terms of longevity and productivity for this franchise.

Allen and Fleener were successful picks. Solid players, just not cornerstone players.. Ballard could've been too if not for career ending injury.

This is not very likely to happen. This is something that may happen in Madden, but a team would never trade a first for a second no matter what year it might be. If we were offered this for whatever reason, you jump on it. A first is always better than a second, no matter what year you have it in

We actually did that little over decade ago... And used the pick to take Tony Ugoh. LOL.

But I don't think it's been done this decade. Broncos and Panthers traded their '10 first rounders for '09 second rounders (with bad success) and it hasn't been done since.

As for OP, depends on the team. There are about dozen teams for which I probably wouldn't accept the trade.

Prier to Dez's injury in 2015 he was on pace for a HOF mention. He is really not that old at 29 and still has time to put up some good numbers if his health permits him to. Only time will tell.

He was almost unstoppable in his peak and there's a serious question if the current Cowboys offense/Dak Prescott (who doesn't like to/isn't able to throw good jump balls for Dez which he excels at) so he might have bit fo a resurgence if he's cut. Which is a possibility with the Cowboys cap situation and the Allen Hurns signing.

Seems to me this is exactly what was said about Randy Moss, Terrell Owens and Dez Bryant. They were all media hounds with the me-me attitude. They turned out alright and will all be in the HOF.

I'm not sure if Dez makes it. He doesn't really stand out THAT much in this era along with wear and tear sapping his athleticism, he probably doesn't have any elite years in him.
