"American Pie" is one of my favorite songs. I also like "Starry, Starry Night", which isn't as well known, but just as good. I like Van Gogh's painting, "Starry Night", and the song reflects the meaning behind that painting.

I hadn't heard about the domestic violence incident. I don't know what to think about that.

I love American Pie too. It is about as old as I am but I did not begin to appreciate it until I went to college. It was played all the time.

I was a junior in high school when that song came out in 1971. It really peaked in 1972 and the rest is history.

It seemed to be an extension of some of the hippy songs coming out of the late 60s and is an iconic song for sure.

  2. I thought that I would post some of my all time favorite songs, please feel free to add yours...

I ran out of likes. Nice Dr. Hook additions there BTW. Jackson Browne is still 1 of the best singer/songwriters around too.

I remember when I first heard "Love Song" by Tesla. It was of those rare moments that stopped me dead in my tracks & I said to myself this band will be around for 20 yrs at least. Darn, these guys are good & I'm been following this group closely ever since. It was a groundbreaking debut song that just told me these guys are legit & the real deal.

It's rare that any bands pulls me in so early & has maintained my loyalty for so long by Tesla is a rare breed of bands that knows how to deliver the goods in the studio & live. I love these guys & they never disappoint me either.

  3. I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving....be grateful for what you have and stop focusing on what you don't....

"Through the long lonely nights she filled my sleep
Her body softly swaying to that smoky beat
      Down on Mainstreet"

Love the vivid imagery created by these lyrics from Bob Seger.

He never gets as a songwriter IMO. The guy is phenomenal at this.

      Where's "You'll Accompany Me" man?

"I've seen you smiling in the summer sun
I've seen your long hair flying when you run
I've made my mind up that it's meant to be
      Someday lady you'll accompany me"

Bob does capture beautiful moments with his iconic verses doesn't he? :hat:

I like this video version of the same number too. However, I always wonder why America always has to make the lady in question white & blond though. Beauty comes in many different shades & colors.

Thank you immensely. I'll remember that generosity on you're behalf when circumstances call for me to do so brother. :hat:

As corny as it sounds, I appreciate kind people like yourself, GFB, Gramz, Brent, Jay Kirk, & Bogie who have a vast treasure trove of musical knowledge across numerous genres etc. etc. Music & movies are my decompression chamber away from the daily rigors of life.

Football isn't my top priority at the moment. My mom's recovery & family are naturally.

  8. In the late 70's and very early 80's, "New Wave" and "Punk Rock" threw a monkey wrench in to conventional music...thankfully...

  9. It is hard to believe that they made so much great music in such a short time....I remember the day their plane crashed, was 10.

Neil Young is as legendary as they come. He has covered pretty much all music styles and his work with Crazy Horse is too great for words.

I liked what he said when he said he just plays one long song.

      horseshoecrabs

Ruston Rifle, I loved old AC\DC but  with the passing of Malcom and the current problem with the Singer situation I have my doubts about their future . But I love their  music. I play the Guitar and I love playing their  basic hard driving rock. It's easy for my level of expertise to play most of it. I also love Eddie Van Halen , But thus cannot play like him LOL.

  12. Just felt like listening to Linkin Park....as always, feel free to add whatever you want.  Music keeps us sane.....

Nice fireworks display on Cochise too. Love how he can stretch out his howl screams too. Nice gritty track there.

The guy just knows how to capture a room, a stadium, or whatever venue he strolls into.

Taylor Swift & Brittney Spears are still around & Cornell & Petty are gone. That's seriously messed up.

I only know this Linken Park/Jay Z duo song "Numb" via the Micheal Mann's film "Miami Vice."

I apologize in advance for any inappropriate language used moderators.

Micheal Mann is the man man. His soundtracks are always off the chain great because he understands how to create mystery, intrigue, & ambiance baby.

Another one of my favorites.  Was listening to JB just this past weekend.  Incredible talent.  He worked a lot with David Crosby... one of the songs DC gives credit to Jackson Browne is Delta.  He (David) said "I was having trouble finishing the song and Jackson came in and just sorta pulled it out of me"

I am sure you have heard it before.  I saw CSN live and also CPR (Crosby Pevar and Raymond, who is Davids son).  CPR was small venue and very good.  (I think I told you this before, but it was also before the 500 beers I have had since, lol).

I love the progression in this tune (The harmony isn't bad either)..... here it is

This is the version I like best though... David Crosby (Lead vocals), Jeff Pevar (guitar/ backup vocals) and James Raymond (Keyboard/ vocals)

    4. southwest1

      southwest1

Thanks RR7, I figured you'd appreciate my headband comment there. I'm actually surprised that more contemporary singers don't wear them more since they soak up the sweat & keep it from rolling into your eyes as singers & musicians jump around on stage.

Plus, headbands are so 80's. Although, Vince Neil of the Crue made headbands part of his whole wardrobe look particularly during the Theatre of Pain Tour. They need to make a triumphant return: Headbands. More than just fitness, workout attire, but I digress.

In addition, headbands are great advertising too. Slap your bands name on it with an autograph on it & fans buy that as memorabilia like hotcakes man. They just do. They hang that stuff off their rear view mirror in their car to rekindle their youth man.
