I guess Ballard better draft well then, seeing nobody wants to sign with the Colts.

We are definitely not the top destination, but I think Luck looking closer to his old self should help. The uncertainty around him and the new coaching staff didnt help bring guys in the door. Hopefully we can show something that makes people think we are trending up (and really the only reason I hope we dont full on tank the rest of the year).

Jensen was still is a Center, Poe fits best in a 3-4 and Melvin would have stayed for more $ guaranteed, however the switch to zone may have contributed to his exit. Just my two cents.

Poe -We were a 3-4 when we reportedly offered significantly more for Poe's services.

Melvin -We reportedly offered Melvin more guaranteed money than he took. Our offer was supposedly 10m vs the 6.5m he ended up taking.

Jensen- just proved the point that money isnt everything. Jensen reportedly took less money so that he could play his prefered position.

Yea, but he has to learn a new position.  If u need a safety just go out and get one.   I would honestly take a chance on Earl Thomas next year if he is healthy.   I know he will probably go to the cowboys.  Neat to have Thomas and Booked  in the back end.  Same type of safeties but we r in a pass happy era

Meant to say Hooker and Thomas in my last post

He wouldnt really need to learn a new position, as he is already a converted safety. He was drafted as a SS and played a season and a half as a safety before being asked to move down to LB (due to injuries initially). Even then he has typically been used as a hybrid Safety/Linebacker. He is essentially the player we were hoping Geathers would be for Eberflus' "Big Nickle" package.

I wouldnt be against bringing him in if the price is right.

I’m no expert but I remember hearing something about how he is unable to sign to any sort of long term contract due to restrictions on his tag. I could be wrong so don’t quote me on that.

Yah he cant sign a new deal until the next league yr as far as I know.  The deadline to sign tagged players to a multi-year deal was July 16th of this year.

  5. Already a few names I would be interested to see Ballard kick the tires on. Corey Coleman, Jeff Janis, Charles Johnson are a couple that could contribute.  All have had brief flashes of ability and success in the league, but overall their careers havent taken off. Could just take the right situation and maybe Reich is the guy to get the best out of one of them.

We will see who else doesnt make the cut though. Lots of names still to be added to the list im sure.

They weren't "welcomed back" to hang around on the sidelines.  They were hired as part of the team.  If Manning was hired in that capacity, I would think he would be at TC too.

I certainly wouldn't think PM could just show up during a game and walk along the sideline because he's PM.  TCs sort of the same thing, just less intense and visible.

They absolutely invite former "alumni" players to come hang out and watch camp/ practice. These guys werent there coaching.

Could also take a shot at HOF Terrell Owens.

Sounds like he might be CFL bound. Roughriders just straight up cut 2017 leading WR Duron Carter out of the blue after working out Owens last week. Theres buzz that its a cap move to bring in T.O.

On 1st down he would be more of a target in the run game. But as you shared he played plenty in a 4 man front as a edge rusher, and was very effective.
I would think Ballard paid Autry with the hopes he would win the starting edge position.
Next comes Basham improving and getting a lot of snaps in the rotation.
Next comes developing Turay and Lewis.
Simon would be a very good veteran presence to go along with this group for sure.
Considering winning next season is more of a bad thing than good, barring injuries (likely), Simon would surely be on the bubble.

I think he very well could be on the bubble if they pigeonhole him into one role. I wouldnt be against seeing him get a shot as an early down SAM (as he has shown he can do well setting the edge and also he can react to run plays a little better back there and avoid getting eaten up by blocks a little easier) and maybe having him come down as a DE in pass situations (With Autry moving inside). Versatility will be valuable when players inevitably start dropping with injuries.

I was taking issue more with people saying he is no longer a scheme fit for us. He could easily play DE for us, but we may just have too many mouthes to feed at that position to keep him. Its not his skillset that makes him expendable, it is more his short contract and lack of guaranteed money.

Even then I think Ballard will try his best to keep him, as cutting players going into a contract year doesnt mesh well with his plan to accumulate comp picks and get extra ammo to build through the draft.

To see him fits in September. :) Not sure he can play 4-3 DE. 6-1 means shorter arms and lighter frame. Not good for 4-3 DE engaging with OT.

We ran the nickle on defense almost 2/3s of our snaps last yr. Dont know about you but to me this formations OLB looks pretty close to what hed be playing as a DE in a 4-3. If he did well in the nickle last yr doing essentially the same thing, there is zero reason to believe he all of a sudden couldnt do it because you call him a DE instead of OLB.

could come down to little details including how much an Agent for a player gets % wise

"There are very few negotiable items: offset language (the ability for the team to recover guaranteed money if the player is released and signs elsewhere), bonus payment terms, roster bonus allocations and other miscellaneous structural issues. "  from NFL.com

To add to this, there are some agents that represent numerous draft picks and UDFA rookies (not to mention other veterans who could be working/reworking deals), and it takes time to explain everything to each client and make sure they are on board/ understand what they are signing.

Cant do it all in one day.

  11. Was hoping to do the first big meal on the BBQ for the season, but things have gotten in the way of picking up the new grill.

Probably gonna end up settling for some slow cooker pulled pork and homemade mac n cheese. Plus probably some munchies of some sort, and will have to have some beers.

But regardless of what Im making, I will be watching by myself, or maybe skype with my buddy while we both watch.

This is my last ditch effort to persuade my fellow Colts fan. That this is our guy.

He's projected 5th or 6th round. He's not tall. He's 263lbs now. His pro day numbers are better than Chubbs. He's a sack artist. Most likely average against the run. He's strong, 31 reps. 36" vertical. Over 10ft. broad jump. He's one of the quickest off the ball.

We have Sheard, Bashem, Simon and Anderson right now as our DE. With the new scheme we really don't know what we are getting with those 4. When we pick at 6, and if Chubb is available. I hope we trade down or go another direction. Cause Ostman should be available with our 5th round pick. Definitely with our 4th round. Depending how the draft plays out.

He's not going to start this year, but I could see him getting 6 sacks in limited action, and make immediate impact on ST.

Look him up, review his numbers. Hopefully I convinced some of you.

I think your expectations are WAY too high. Over the last 10 yrs, 1st round pass rushers have averaged just over 4 sacks in their rookie season. Saying you expect a player expected to be a day 3 pick to produce like an above average 1st rounder is very ambitious, like "steal of the decade" ambitious.

He could be a good valued pick in day 3, but there is a reason he is ranked that low. His chances of contributing as much as you expect are VERY slim.

Probably nothing because as of right now Ballard has shown little to no interest in him.

    https://coltswire.usatoday.com/2018/03/03/indianapolis-colts-news-meet-bradley-chubb-nfl-combine-2018-nfl-draft/

Just because we didnt bring him in for a top 30 visit, doesnt mean he isnt on the list. Ballard is using the visits for players with questions they need to have answers to (off field, medical, or otherwise) before they can adequately grade them. Chubb doesnt fall into that category.
