WR is getting thin, but I think someone like Jordan Matthews on a cheap contract would be great.

Ive been thinking for awhile now that we will end up letting all the high priced WRs go elsewhere. My dark horse guy has been Dontrelle Inman, a player familiar with Reichs system from their time together with the Chargers. Hes not super flashy but hes put up decent performances when he isnt buried on a depth chart.

  3. Why would they go all in on interior lineman when they already have a fairly solid set of guards in Zeitler and Bitonio? Both were signed last offseason and have a combined dead cap number exceeding 20M if released, meaning they probably arent going anywhere.

You can make the argument that they could upgrade their tackle spots, with Joe Thomas contemplating retirement and Shon Coleman not lighting the world on fire as a starter (although they might give him another season to make the leap as hes only going into his 3rd year).

I also seriously doubt they trade down with Buffalo as the price is probably higher than Buffalo can afford (it would take both 1sts this yr, both 2nds this yr, and their first round picks for 2019 and 2020 just to even come within the ballpark of the value to trade up that far).

If he emailed you the list, I would just take the top guy on it, unless its not in order of preference anyway.  Still, he messaged you so it's your call.  I'm fine either way.

Depends on the message. I will be sending my list in because i may or may be busy at work, but it will be with instructions to give me a chance to actually show up and make the pick myself. His msg may be the same.

He’s going to have to dip into both. We only have 2 WRs on the roster right now.  I’m also not sure exactly how that math works out.  Over the cap has us sitting at 77 mil in space and I saw somewhere else that had 65.  I don’t know how we go from having third most cap to just under 60 mil. But I’m not good at math soo... we’ll see!

We do still have the 3rd most cap. This just breaks down how much we can actually spend of it, because a good chunk is already effectively put towards other things.

Every team will have these similar costs pulling down their cap numbers as well. Thats why a team like Philly is in so much trouble. Being 10M over the cap doesnt seem like a lot of money to get rid of, but they have also drop enough to sign draft picks, new players, etc. When you add it all up they need to drop about 25-30M to be able to keep their team under the cap and still roster a competitive team.

  6. Something I thought of when I heard this story come out. With the Cardinals not enamored with TM (at least at his current price tag), and also linked to that report yesterday about teams wanting to trade up to our pick at #3, could TM be a potential part of that trade up to our pick on draft day? I wouldnt be against trading down to 15 for a couple high picks and Mathieu.

  7. I think Burton and Poe are probably better left off, seeing as 55M is most of our cap that we can use (we need like 15M set aside for draft picks, roster churn, etc). That 12M could be better turned into a handful of lesser players to round out our roster a little better. Im confident enough to at least let the DTs and TEs currently on our roster (and potentially a few UDFA/ low $ FAs) try and see if they can hold down their positions. We need to see what we have in Swoope, Travis, Daniels, Cox (With a healthy Luck and in Reichs offense) and to see how Ridgeway, Stewart and Anderson can transition to a 4-3. I think paying decent money to their replacements before even letting them step on the practice field is a little short sighted. Especially when that money could be better used to shore up our depth for WR, OL, LB, FS.

That being said, getting every other pick up would be a dream come true.

Seahawks had informed Richard Sherman that he will be released .... why not try and trade him for something at least?

Do you think he could help help our secondary or would he be too risky?

I dunno, I know he use to be good butnwith the drama he brings and the injuries the past couple years I think he’s more risk the reward.

My guess is they havent had any offers. There have been rumors about him being on the trade block since before the trade deadline. If they havent gotten anything for him by now they probably wont ever.

It does have to with your job. Your maturity, decision making, decisions off the field with other questions, your dedication to the game, etc... The NFL is never going to get hit with a human rights violation, not now, not ever.

I dont believe it would happen either, but clearly the NFL is against these type of questions being asked, as they send out memos every year about it. There has to be a reason why they are so against it. My guess is its a legal thing.

I don't think this applies to the NFL draft. Even if it did, a team would never be charged because they could simply say they liked player x better for whatever reason and wanted to draft him instead.

Thats true in any hiring process. They can say they liked another candidate better and hired them instead. Yet these cases still go to court. Even the possible backlash of them being taken to court for it could be bad for business.

Whats easier, not asking a question that has nothing to do with how a person will do their job or trying to deal with the backlash of a human rights violation?

  11. Im not 100% on the laws you guys have down there, but I know up here in Canada a person cant be refused employment because of race, sexual orientation, gender, etc. So to even ask someone their sexual orientation in a job interview leaves them open to serious charges in the event a person isnt hired. Technically, by a team bypassing them in the draft (even if its only in the first round and another team takes him before their next pick), they could make a case that it was done specifically because of their sexual orientation. That leaves the NFL teams in a very bad legal position, not to mention the social backlash. I think that is more likely the issue that the NFL has with these kinds of questions being asked. Has very little to do with protecting "*" and more about protecting their own butts from serious legal trouble.

If I remember correctly we were slow coming out of the gate last year.  I think it took days before we signed anyone.  If Ballard takes the same approach this year I for one will be very disappointed.  Too many young difference makers in positions of need to not move fast.   And more could be released for cap reasons.  I want him to get two or three difference makers and pay them to get them.  Don't let them leave the building.

We werent slow out of the gate, we just lost all the bidding wars for the top guys. First few days we were making calls for Zeitler, Hightower, Jeffery, Bouye, Perry and a few others we were reportedly going after. Once all the top tier guys were lost, we started working on the next tier of FAs on the list.

I dont expect it to be any easier for Ballard this year. We are coming off a terrible year and Lucks status is still up in the air. Unless we significantly outbid other teams (which is a fairly reckless use of our cap) I cant see us winning many bidding wars on the top talents.

I'm posting this because I hope someone, or several of you, may know the answer.  Is our current Scouting Department basically the same group of scouts we've had for several years?  Or, was the Scouting Department completely revamped when Ballard took over last year?

I'm just curious, because we all know there have been some big busts in our draft during the Grigson years, and I wonder if any of the scouts are still around from the years we picked Dorsett, Werner, etc.  I know that Scouts don't make the actual picks, but I would assume their input is valuable to the GM in preparation for the draft.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. - I know we're not the only franchise to have had 1st Round busts.  I'm hoping whoever we draft int he 1st round is a long-term, productive Colt.

A lot of the scouts are the same guys, but a good chunk of those guys were around in the Polian era. The big changes that were made were changes to the mid level/ high level guys. Our 2 VPs of player personnel are new, as are our Director of College Scouting and our College Scouting Coordinating.

Seeing as some of these old scouts have had good years under Polian and bad years under Grigson, I think its more about the way their higher ups are using their skills, and I expect Ballard and his new hires to do that effectively.

For reference here is the colts staff listing, with links to each scouts profile.

I think we need to realize that even if Norwell isn't a "done deal" to the Giants, the chances are still more that he signs elsewhere than he signs here.

There are quite a few teams that do have the cap space that would LOVE to sign an All-Pro guard. Not to mention, Indy isn't exactly the most attractive FA destination for most. People should realize that just because you have the money and desire for a certain player, it isn't even close to a done deal.

Agreed. But that doesn't mean that Ballard shouldn't throw his hat into the ring and make an offer. Who knows what'll happen. Norwell grew up in CIN, maybe being close to family is high on his list of reasons to choose a team. I hope we are that lucky, but dont expect it.
