  1. A Curtis Painter backup QB collector card... haha  Would any INDY fan really pay for this? Nope...Sorry Curtis. I know it hurts...

While Curtis himself was not the greatest QB we ever had (Not even close), it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have the Card of the man who got us Andrew Luck. Also it would just remind me of a time when we were wished we had Jim Sorgi behind center (which is something I never thought would happen). I think the season of Painter under center will be a story I tell my grandkids someday.

Also with me only being a colts fan for about 12 years, it was nice to know that I was still a diehard fan even when we had the worst team in the league. Nothing worse then truly liking a team but being called a fairweather fan just because they are consistently good.

Im not saying Id pay any significant amount of money for it, but for a couple bucks it would be worth it to make me chuckle every now and then.

  2. Oh there is always a situation where it makes sense I'm just giving my preference on it.

Another thing is when I look at the 2nd round I don't see that early 2nd round team that could afford to use their picks to trade up other than the 49ers but they are so loaded that they don't have to budge just to move up 7 spots when they basically pick twice in the 1st round already.

Looking at who is picking at the top of round 2, only the Lions at pick at 36, the next looks like the Dolphins at 42, bucs at 43 and the Rams at 46. The rest of the teams look like they need their picks but who knows we might get lucky, but from the looks of it trading back to a team at the top of the 2nd doesn't look likely but a team at the bottom of the 2nd could work but that is wayyyyy too far down to trade out of the #24 pick for. A lot of things have to happen for us to trade back and get into the early second round, I think if we do it would be like the dolphins at 42 or later and I wouldn't feel comfortable to trade back that far

There should be a few more QB desparate teams that may have to trade up out of need instead of want. Taking a look at teams like the Bills, Jets, Browns, Jags or even the Cardinals. These are all teams who wont all reach with their high 1st round picks on a QB, but could be pressured by the others to possibly move back into the end of the first to get their signal caller. I know none of the teams can really part with their picks, but rest assured someone will take the risk to try and keep their job.

If someone is really desperate for a new QB we could be picking 33rd, 38th, 39th or 41st. And who knows, the 49ers may even want to move up for a player that we dont covet as much as them, giving us a pick at 31 or 34. Lots of possibilities this year.

  3. I'm going off the players that are projected to be around where we pick, and I would take one of them not even taking account players that could fall. People act like we are desperate for picks when were not. The top receivers, Trufant, Moore, Fluker as a guard. I prefer getting one of them top receivers and give us a sure fire receiver on the outside as a #2. I don't see why some people are quick to trade out of the first round like we are desperate for picks, free agency set us up to not be so desperate for picks. There is only 2or 3 holes that weren't addressed in free agency. Stay put and draft one of the top players at their position in the draft that we need which is WR, interior oline, pass rusher. Can use picks 1,3,4 to address those. I just feel our options that should be available at pick #24 outweigh trading back. Now I can see if we didn't address our holes in free agency then I wouldn't mind trading back but I don't see us that desperate for draft picks

By no means am I saying that we get rid of a chance to get one of the top WRs, Fluker or Trufant (trust me Id be happy with any of them at 24). I am just saying that we can't count out the possiblilty of none of them making it to our pick. The draft never goes as people plan it, and if there isnt a sure fire talent at #24 (that fills a need for us) that won't make it to the beginning of round 2, I say pull the trigger on a trade. I am not implying that we are desperate for players and NEED to trade down, I am saying that IF we are getting the same or a very comparable player a few picks later and can get some other picks out of it, then why not? Honestly I would rather have the problem of having too much talent then not enough.

I am with you on not trading down if we can get the right player, I just think that there may be a situation where it makes sense.

  4. 2: Justin Hunter WR Tennessee

We need WR help badly. Hunter could come in and play #2 WR. Hunter possess Great height at 6'4 is good at route running and has natural hands. Hunter has okay speed but a good burst. He would be in consternation with teammate Cordarrelle Patterson for best wideout in this draft class if not for a bad knee that has been through surgery.

While I like your pick of a WR in the draft, I wouldnt say we need help badly. I mean yes Wayne is getting up there in years, but we already have 3 young WR that could be solid given the chance. Hilton has proven to be a solid slot receiver already, and we haven't even given a fair chance to Brazill or Whalen. While I think it wouldn't hurt to bring in another weapon, I wouldn't say that we have a glaring need that can be fixed by another unproven talent.

    3: Travis Frederick OG/C Wisconsin

We need a OG to start nest to Donald Thomas. Frederick is a big mauler how can bulldoze DT/DE's. Frederick has been around football his whole life and therefore has a very high football I.Q. He's very coach able and can dominate a one on one matchup with smaller D-lineman. Also if needed he can slide to Center and be reliable.

While I liked him as a colt earlier in the year, the fact that he showed up to the combine at 312 has me a little worried. Him slimming down means that either A- He wants to play center exclusively or B- He is catering to a Zone Blocking scheme. Either way it means he is looking to get away from being the Big Mauler that he is known to be, and unfortunately a big mauler is what we need.

    6: Brandon Moore NT Texas:

Nope, Not Brandon Moore the ButtFumble-ee but Brandon Moore the NT of texas formerly of the JUCO NCAA divison. Moore had very limited playing time but still managed 3 sacks and 5.5 TFL. Moore could be nice in a rotation with our current NT's.

As has been mentioned already, we already have a bunch of NT, probably more then we will carry on our roster. Unless you think he is better then two of the players we already have, and think he can prove that before cuts come around, he is just a wasted pick.

Other than those three picks I like what you picked, expecially the later picks (really good value players). I personally would like to see the guard position addressed earlier instead of WR, but i do think that a WR should be taken at some point (our second 3rd rounder or maybe 4th) , if for no other reason then depth in case our young guys dont pan out or get injured. Maybe draft a RB or Safety instead of NT in the 6th.

  5. I'll take the 1st round talent over picking up just an extra 3rd round pick and a not so coveted 6th rounder. I don't like the idea of us trading back and not making our first pick until around 35-42

It all depends on who is sitting on he board when we pick. As NCF said, there are not 32 players with a 1st round grade to them. So assuming we go with the number of 25 that NCF has provided, by pick 25 we could be down to as little as 2 (probably a few more due to the odd player or two falling, or reaches on lesser graded players) players to choose from with the First round grade on them. Depending on who is there, we might end up picking a 2nd round grade player anyways. If that is the case, why would you rather reach for a pick at 24, then trade down, get the same player(or someone comparable) and get another possible starter from a 3rd round pick, as well as a 5th or 6th round pick for some extra depth?

It seems like you are assuming that we will get a sure fire 1st round talent, which at this point is not a guarantee. While I agree 100% that we should keep the pick if we can find the right talent at #24, at this point we should keep our options open.

OK....    let's talk....    I've been sitting on this post for more than a month,  but now it's clearly time.

I believe the strength of this draft is in rounds 2-5 and maybe even includes round 6.

I believe the one round where there are not 32 players with a justifiable grade for that round is........    the first.

I believe there are roughly 25 players with first round grades.

  6. Denario Alexander was not tendered and is a good young receiver, he is 6'5'' 217 and I saw him play in SD, he could be a great Big Weapon that alot of people want.

Not to rain on your parade or anything but it appears as though he was tendered

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000149110/article/report-bolts-place-low-tender-on-danario-alexander

Not a top pick tender but it still gives SD the option to match offers.

  7. My question is are there any significant free agents we can snatch from within our division. Making us stronger while making our competitors weak simultaneously? It's happened to us many times so maybe we could return the favor. And no, I don't want Connor Barwin.

Off the top of my head I know that Glover Quin (FS) and Justin Forsett (RB) from Houston are two players that could offer us possible upgrades, although I do not know how much Houston will miss Forsett.

From the Jags Rashad Jennings (RB) might not be a bad upgrade for our second RB or Terrence Knighton (DT) could help us along the line possibly.

From the Titans I wouldn't mind us taking Fernando Velasco (C ) from them, as Satele always seemed to be injured this season.

There are probably a few more players that I can't think of at the moment, but thats a start.

  8. Adam "Pacman" Jones - He has actually put up a pretty good season in limited action with the Bengals this season (9 passes defended and an opposing passer rating of 81.9 on balls thrown his direction). While he may not have the skills that big name FA Corners have, he will be quite a bit cheaper and is an upgrade over what we have, both as a corner and could also help in the return game.
