Hope I get to see Alcaraz or Djokovic

Recommended Posts

With Federer retired and Nadal on his long road to recovery from his injuries, I’m relishing this short term rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic that seems to be budding.

I’m heading to Cincinnati for the men’s semifinals game this Saturday with the hope that I get to see one of them in a prime time game. 🤞

This Alcaraz kid is amazing! I grew up watching Tennis = players like Borg, McEnroe, Sampras, and of course Nadal and Ferderer, Djokovic now. When it is all said and done, this kid my be the best of all-time. It is way too early to tell but if he can play at an elite level for the next 10 years, who knows?

The biggest issue will be health. He is built like Nadal, bigger bones, stronger but the wear and tear for those guys over guys with skinny legs like Federer and Djokovic on "hard courts" is much higher. There is a reason why Djokovic has won all those Australian Open titles and a reason why Nadal (on softer clay easier on the knees like grass) has won so many clay court titles.

The biggest difference I see with Alcaraz over Nadal is his ability to adapt at the "net", something Nadal did a bit of but never enough to win more on the faster courts of Wimbledon and US Open. That would be where the difference would be, IMO.

The key will be 3 to 4 years from now. It would be like when Federer had a monopoly with Sampras and Agassi fading and before Nadal and Djokovic emerged completely, for a period of 4 to 5 years. I can see the same monopoly when Nadal and Djokovic are done with their careers and Alcaraz has very few to challenge him to be able to win 3 Grand Slams in a year like Federer did in 2004, 2006 and 2007.

If you missed the Cincinnati ATP Masters Final, you missed a heck of a game between Alcaraz and Djokovic. What a game!! Longest 3 setter ATP Masters final in history and the 36 year old Djokovic persevered after almost nearly 4 hours of tennis that had both players saving match points, going for their shots and 3 close tightly fought sets. The US Open is best of 5 sets and should favor the youngster, IMO.

I haven't seem that much of him but seen him beat Dokie at Wimbledon. I don't think I seen anyone cover the court and make shots like he did. It was amazing Dokie took him to 5 sets and lost only  by one break.

There's A small tournament near me in Delray and doesn't draw any top players. Sometimes Isner comes. ..... I would like to try to Block his serve back......assuming I could.see it. :funny:

Delray beach open coming Feb 9th. Very close to me. Its a low tier mens tennis tournament, 250 points I think.. It doesn't draw top players but Taylor Fritz usually comes and a friend of mine wants me to go with him because Fritz has a hottie girlfriend and he wants to go if she's there...LoL.. I think he said her name is Morgan riddle or something like that??

I don't think Fritz has to worry bout my friend stealing her from him. haha

I don't mind going but not crazy about the players that they draw but its ok because the atmosphere is cozy and your close to players and action.

Not a bad tournament for someone to come down and see.and get away from the cold if your a tennis fan.

There is always Indian Wells in Miami in the middle of March that draws bigger names that it would be worth going to, if you do live in Florida.
