I see Mcdaniels going somewhere like Detroit to replace Jim Caldwell.  The tools they have there are similar to some of the tools they have on the Pats as well as the type of offense they are running. Plus the GM is from the Pats.  I can totally see him taking that Job.

Totally forgot about the GM/Pats connection there. If he lands there, it leaves Toub on the table as the other logical fit here in Indy. Harbaugh isn't even an option for me at this point given that Michigan has made him the supreme ruler of everything up there.

He was not here when Luck got his shoulder hammered last year or year before.

Respectfully, I think you are missing my point. Yes, BA was not here after 2012 but the type of offense he runs vs. the one the Colts use now are very similar. Hence, that same type of offense would likely accompany BA if he were to come back to Indy. That's a big no-no for me.

Fans here who against Bruce, are probably same ones who wanted him to stay when covered for Chuck back a few years ago and led the Colts to 9 wins. I take him over Chuck any day. So will Chuck get canned New Years Eve/Day or week later?

Here's my big point about Bruce. I think he is a great motivator and knows how to make adjustments a lot better than Chuck. However, his offense gets QB's killed. It's virtually the same offense we run now and we've seen what thats done to Luck and co. The ONLY way I'd want him back is if there is a big change in the type of offense he runs. Otherwise, count me out.

Polian obviously thought RB had a high position value or he wouldn't have taken Edge with the 4th. overall pick.  After reading you're complimentary remarks about Polian and how he values position value I'm sure you could support his pick of James at the RB position.  If a hall of fame GM believes a RB can go that high I think it would be fine if Ballard decides to go with BPA and if it's Barkley so be it.  He did have Elliot as his overall BPA the year he was drafted.

I agree with this. If Ballard and co. truly believe that Barkley is the BPA, they should take him. Having a RB like that can truly change your offense.

I wouldn't be too upset with McDaniels.  But McDaniels already got a shot.

Patricia's been quietly sending out good defenses for the Pats year after year after year.  But no one talks about that because all the focus is on Tom Brady.

New England has been top 10 in scoring defense every year that Patricia has been the coordinator except for his first year when they where 11.  Last year they where #1 in scoring defense.

To be fair I look at Matt Patricia as more of a home run swing that could easily miss.  If we're just looking for a base hit, a decent head coach who can coach a talented QB with some talent around him then I'd say Pat Shurmur is our guy.

I have to respectfully disagree here with you about Patricia. For me, it's tough to give him that much credit for their defense's success when BB is the head coach and mastermind behind that system. New England's defense has always had consistent success, long before Patricia came into the fold there. Add in the fact that most of the coordinators that have left New England have found little to no success and you start to realize that it's just the Belichick machine. Consider me very skeptical.

  6. In terms of a darkhorse, I could see Jim Bob Cooter making a solid play at things.

The great thing this year is that there seems to be a really good pool of HC candidates compared to 2011/2012. Back then it was the likes of Brad Childress and Chuck Pagano along with Pete Carmichael and a few others. And like last year with the GM position, the Colts may be able to land a very good hire.

People mention Harbaugh but Harbaugh has a lot of coaching in his family history which makes it a bit easier for a decision like that.  Father was a big time coach,  Brother is a coach so on and so forth. I'm sure it was a bit easier to envision him being a coach.  I think Toub would be okay but just pointing out some differences when it comes to Harbaugh.

Family pedigree does account for something but I think we have to examine a more comprehensive body of work and league connections/thoughts among other things when evaluating a head coach candidate. IMO.

Well, obviously it was anecdotal. There's no database that we have access to that'd give us the exact numbers, like I said, I'll bet the franchises books do have an idea though (Irsay's bank account).

It wasn't hard to observe a large chunk of Colts fans deciding that they were Peyton fans instead. I'd go so far as to say, very few of my real life Colts fans friends are anywhere near as invested into the Luck era as they were (at this point it's understandable, it wasn't when he was beating Peyton Broncos in the Playoffs, but I digress).

I disagree with the Peyton/Broncos notion. I think a lot of fans did like Peyton and watched the Broncos with rooting interest, but the team still had fans going to games and buying merchandise pretty consistently until they started losing.

Lack of money going into Irsay's wallet has more to do with the team's performance than Peyton Manning.

The Colts could win this, but I don't think they will. The score will be something like 24-17, Cos' win.

This game should have meant something.

I dunno if most of us care or are aware, but the Colts fan base got cut in half when Peyton went to Denver. Those BronColts fans would have had to reconcile their divided loyalty and came back home, if this game meant anything.

As it stands, I wonder what the Colts actual fan base in raw numbers looks like right now, compared to say 2012.

I wouldn't be shocked if Irsay's bank account says it's quite a bit less.

Awesome numbers here. Where are you pulling these from?

I think Harbaugh is a possibility.  I think the next coach will be either Harbaugh, Gruden, or Taub.

Just don't know how Irsay makes an offer that is more sweet than what Harbaugh already has at Michigan. Luck would play a big role in that as well. I could be wrong but I just don't see it. Gruden is a possibility as well but I'm concerned with how long's been out of the coaching game and I've always thought his success was more of a mirage.

I agree and Ballard definitely knows him pretty well.  The major criticism would be no experience at head coach.  But in my opinion, there are no guarantee head coaches out there.  Would you rather have one of the coaches that got fired?  They have experience, but have failed.

Right. And the only other coach with experience that would make sense is Harbaugh but we all know that ship has sailed. People have said McDaniels or Patricia but I'm skeptical of anyone from the BB tree since most of them haven't done anything once they've left the nest. Toub seems like the most logical fit.

The interesting part will be who he would bring in to be the OC/DC. My assumption is some KC guys.

Here is an article on potential head coaches(from last year), but mainly about Toub.  This guy has a lot of respect around the league and I have a feeling this will the year he finally gets his head coaching gig.

The more I read about Toub, the more I want him. Seems to have a lot of respect around the league like how Ballard does.

Sound salty man.I guess I would be too if Denver was able to get Peyton to basically do everything he did in 14 years with the colts in 4 years with Denver. 2 super appearances( won 1 lost 1), MVP, Comeback award, breaking the single season record and some other all time records, division wins every year. I’ll be patient and watch you guys waste Luck career and then “rent” him when you guys think he’s done.

No salt. Just facts. Most of the records he built in Indianapolis were broken in Denver. He walked on to a Denver team that was already pretty well complete as well, not a team starting at the bottom like early in his career in Indy. Go ahead and be patient. It'll be another long 10 years of Trevor Siemian's and Paxton Lynch's.
